  1. People should research who makes what brands Excelepet is drontal & nearly all those expensive ones are made by the same companies & as a money earner. We have used the supermarket wormers with no issues & wouldnt paythe silly prices vets charge You read plenty of DOL & many of our clients no longer use frontline as it doesnt work. We wont use it due to the chronic reactions. Advantage aslo causes reactions in our breed. Ofcourse vets dont push supermarket brands ,They want you to buy from them BUT what people do need to make is yes they read the y ingredients, they read what they do & if they have breeds who are ivermec sensitive they understand what ones they can/cant use. As for vets selling things ,last year we had stacks of clients whose vet gave there dogs yearly heartworm jabs & then sold them products for fleas/worms that also di heartworm.Thats how stupid some are.
  2. In our house training treats arent what there feed. Why not buy a small bag of royal canin & try it .Ask the breeder whether there is any issues with the brand & cockers. There is also no reason why you cant add some raw now No one in this house gets pandered too but did have a pup that wouldnt eat the suggested diet & with consultation switched to one which pup ate & enjoyed. The dog is a hoover. We never feed just dry
  3. I use advatix through summer purely for the mosquito part but it does repel the flies which is a great bonus at shows
  4. Mine is called The original Bed Buddy. Its blue & has a velcro strap as you can strap it to your back & continue doing your thing. My boy happily wears it under his coat & it does really help. The chemist is where ours came from
  5. I have a dog the exact same. We seek a bowen therapy every month which does wonders. Hes on a daily dose of Aspirin but we use the one for heart suffers(cartia low dose) which is great. We are avoiding the heavy duty stuff until he really needs it. keeping him fit, exercising & warm is a must. We brought a special heat pack that straps on to his bad area which he gets each night before bed. Sadly there isnt alot you can do
  6. mine start with soft toys. Many new tennis balls stick to high heavon & the dogs dont like the taste or smell
  7. Nope. They get feed when it happens. It could be early am /late pm or what ever the weather is doing.
  8. My biggest advice.Dont believe them when they say the chemo doesnt affect the dogs. I wouldnt put my dogs through & we have been involved with a number of very young dogs who have had chemo. We have picked up alot of cancers in dogs we groom. Of those who had chemo only one has lived 4 yrs after. The others where very sick dogs due to the chemo whilst recieving the treatment & didnt live much longer afterwards. They spent longer with there owners but there was no quality
  9. Do you not have a backyard?? How much time does pup spend outside being a dog?? I agree with others dont get confused with Sep anxiety. Its over used to much these days & true sep anxiety is your worse nightmare. Just remember pup is spending alot of time in the laundry given that it also sleeps there. You may think its a nice place but that is where pup is spending all its time.Escaping & venturing off is more fun & interesting. Gundogs are tough little critters
  10. Thanks for the advice, I've still got a lot to learn. Without seeing the coat & presuming it has agood thick type of coat i would be using an #8.5 for the bum & #10 for the ears but as Vehs said you can use a #10 for the bum aswell. The clip on combs are generally used to do Bichons, fluffies, poodles & the likes to maintain that fluffy look that the blades dont always get. We have mini schnauzers aswell & have never used the clip on combs except for maybe shortening legs but we prefer to hand scissor. Im gathering your stripping the top coat or rolling & just want to tidy the ears, bum, belly & throat?
  11. Also consider the issue with locking the doggy door. In our house the doggy door is open 24/7 BUT if we have to shut the door its never the doggy door but the other door. You want your pup to use the ddor but at the same time it is also locked.Very confusing for a 9 week old pup where a routine is so important. Many dog doors are very heavy & solid.Alot of dogs hate these as they cant see the other side. Its also hard on young pups. Our door is clear vinyl so everyone can see the outside whether it be night or day. Also some of the heavy doors can hit them hard & frighten them. If you have a heavy door i would suggest swapping to a heavy plastic or occy strapping the door up until the pup has a good grasp & then lowering the door. Sometimes what we expect isnt reality & training is about making it easy not hard.
  12. ). [I wouldnt use the clip ons for those areas & certainly not the ears. I would just buy a blade ie #4 or #5 or even a #7.Much easier
  13. All our pups leave here "doggy door " trained .They start at 6 weeks & run half an acre. They are no bigger than full grown chis at 8 weeks. The longer you shelter her from the outside world the more scarier it becomes. Also remember winter is yet to hit so using the better weather now to train & teach would be a priority for us
  14. I would drop the beef out.Well known skin allergy starter & also can give many dogs the runs.
  15. how do i pluck without hurting her? i dont recall having to do this with my red tri girl. It doesnt hurt.Just brush it forward & pull. You could (if its ready to pullout) strip that out in a few minutes. Just pull the soft ,crappy stuff
  16. Yep head is full of dead coat. You need to start plucking as it doesnt fall out by it self. All that red tinge is puppy/dead coat.
  17. Depends which vet you used. For example Murdoch university charge mega bucks for x rays & yes you dont own them & to buy copies is $$$$. All the other vets we use we get given them no questions asked & the last set i had done was given to me on disc so i could just email. The vets we use dont want to keep them as there space wasters
  18. I now many go to puppy preschool but i see more people with issues afterwards & the reason being is many(not all) encourage exuberance & free for alls & the owners arent involved in training them when to switch off/on.They learn that being over the top is correct at such a crucial age. I think its also safe to say at present your frustrated. The dog nows this & your angry at the dog for something that isnt its fault. It sounds like the pup is running the household & you have no idea how to handle or control your dog & seeking help is a great start. Once your shown techniques you will realize how easy things can be . The most important thing you need to look at is your pups daily activity level & this doent just mean exercise. Some breeds need more mental stimulation & crave to learn. So what is your dogs daily routine. Never lower yourself to the dog level. Also remember as much as your frustrated it isnt the dogs fault .We all now dogs are only as good as the owners & some owners just need more help to achieve the right result. Also ask yourself how are you around your dog.Are you someone who is boring ,confusing, interesting. Often a boring person loses the dogs attention very quickly. When communicating you need the dog to want to hear you & listen. You need to stand upright & use your voice to allow the dog to understand good, bad .Your voice is you best tool to gain respect. Some people talk so quietly & repeat the same commend 15 times & the dog still doesnt listen so you need to address why & try new methods to make yourself more interesting than the distraction. When i was trialling for example i had adog that was ball obsessed. It took enormous self control not to chase any ball laying about so when practising i used her balls as distraction & rewards. He down stays involved me playing ball, sitting with her balls & her reward was her ball.I would do figure 8 around her balls & get my mum to squeak the balls whilst doing offleash work.I had to be more interesting than that one item she cherished. It was her tool & she was a brilliant worker . Some dogs work for sheep skin.food, voice, simple pleasure so consider what item she really values & use that when training. If you have video camera also vido yourself interacting with your dog,it is amazing what people see & dont realise
  19. Mini schnauzers excel in all aspects. Std schnauzers are also good but require a special owner to live with them.
  20. Yep $70 bucks your made. You either charge 470to hand strip the coat which means no brushing of legs or double that for a full groom. Your being used
  21. Cranberry tablets .I use the ones that also have acidophiles(sp) in them. They helped big time ,even washing/dunking his penis in colloidal silver helped .
  22. In my boys case he never hump BUT because the girls where in heat he was obviously more aware of his equipment. His licking was his issue the more he licked the more it caused issues. We where told by the repo vet that if he had a mating that the erection would cause the blood vessels to burst more & whilst it wouldnt harm him we would have to be very aware of changes because the more that burst the longer it takes to heal & obviously semen with blood in it isnt ideal. The problem i found when this happened was wehn he urinated it obviously would sting so he would then try to lick to soothe the sting but make the issue worse. He had 2 chronic cases where he needed injections to nock it off but his where at the top of the scale. I found in his case the signs where easy to tell. Coat change was the first sign,he would get alot of undercoat & it looked crap, not soft/silky. I would have to bath his area am/pm to wash the pee off but not using shampoo/con as this would irritate it .His penis would swell & be very red so i would also pop him out to check(pays to now your dog pee pee ) The cleaner it was the happier he was & the quicker it healed.A right royal pain with long coats but just dunking the penis in water helped greatly(just tie the hair up & dunk). I did spray not on but near crappy stuff to stop him licking & it worked but maintenance was the key. The humping i worry more about doing there backs in plus its a right royal pain. Did you wash James before he went.He may smell off your girl
  23. Also remember rome wasnt built in a day.Your pup has been home for a short period. It sees you as its new playmates. You need to be patient & consistent. We have never had issues but find the more you make off it the more fun its becmes, dogs will crave any attention even if there being told off because generally they get down to there level & its "all about them". In out house its no fuss .It works very well & we have gundogs who have very mouthy.they are allowed to be mouthy on our terms & it works very well
  24. Oh dear . I would be contacting the vet that treated the dog. The breeder should have given you a vet report on the current status & should have informed you more of what the ongoing status is. Like others have said its a very common issue in peis & you wont get cover so it will be an expensive road ahead. What does your breeders contract state about the pups condition??? Have you phoned them asking about the eyes not opening??
