8 Week Old Beagle Puppy - Toilet Training Help!
Dogsfevr replied to rocky_beagle's topic in Puppy Chat
Dont feed Hills here & you couldnt pay to. Like others have said a clean dog especially a Beagle is a blessing.Beagles can be dirty dogs. Our pups leave at 8 weeks plus doggy door trained & we highly recommend all our owners install a door before pup comes home so it continues with the toilet training method. Your beagle will go nuts being inside & may become destructive .(the airport beagle brigade are handed in pets ). What is your plan for the future.Inside/outside,doggy door/no doggy door/bark to out/sit at door to go out?? What vere your plan is you start now -
Full baths here 1/2 a week, pee feather washes nightly & all in human shampoo for the last 24 yrs . Dont add anything special to the diet oil wise.

Help Me Get Weight On My Dog
Dogsfevr replied to WildatHeart's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I agree feed more. Weighing food is fine but reality is it often doesnt work . Also for some dogs raw foods just dont do it. I would be feeding more bulkier meals. There isnt alot of bulk in what your feeding. For example my young setter who runs an acre all day gets 2 cups of proplan salmon.half kg of mutton.tuckertime & chicken necks. More or less depending on his weight. Some GSD do have food digestive issues & sometimes need some help in food absorption but i would be trying more food -
I have to say irrespective of what breed your dislikes for smell, hair, dirt is everything a dog is. If these things are such factor for you then i do wonder why you want a dog & how much time your kids will spend with it getting dirty. One thing though, leaving there shoes outside after playing wont be happening. So you need to decide how much you want to alter your life for a dog. If you phoned us saying your concerns about the above we wouldnt sell you because dogs arent sterile creatures, there family members that do dog things. We have showdogs & ours are family members who use the doggy door 24/7.three large dogs sleep on my bed & it doesnt stink. We board alot of staffies & they come in with there PJ,doonas, snuggle blankets. They greet you every morning with great gusto & zest. 99% are angels. The ones from homes where obviously "life is about amusing themselves" has resulted in them eating through the fence, destroying anything not latched down.True nightmares that get no attention because they where never brought up to understand. So just consider what ever breed you get that the decking could make a nice meal & a Staffie on a mission would be a great "Bob the builder". If you end up with a renovator what would be your plan

Never heard of the "nine month" theory before. Actually i believe the canine cough component only lasts 6 months & to be effective should be done 6 monthly. Its rarely done this way. We had a specialist from Sweden explain that dogs can harbour the virus for nearly 200 days & just requires the right situation for it to develop, this is why its an all year issue not just winter . Because it can harbour the issue for so long the 6 month time frame is the only way to ensure greater coverage but this is rarely done & if the vets did tell people they would most likely say there being riped off. Some kennels wont take dogs unless currently vacc which includes canine cough.some QLD kennels do ask for every 6 months.

Grooming Mini Schnauzer For Show
Dogsfevr replied to hotdoggy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Head to the schnauzer forum. We dont use finger & thumb All stripped coats require a stripping knife of some description to ensure the coat is pulled correctly from the base. Which knife is purely personal although some equipment require money spent . Are you trying to roll the coat??Or have you stripped it right back.Rolling the coat is an art of its own & you can often tell a rolled coat after awhile as essentially to roll you are breaking the coat unless you are blessed with asupr quick coat underneath,Stds are very easy to roll but i have yet to see a good mini coat that has been rolled for any long period, Products it again comes down to the tricks of the trade.trial & error & how you use it & above all the coat. As for leg hair being fru fru well again depends on the texture of the leg coat, some coat textures(cottony) look great but are wrong.good quality thick texture are easy to cylinder trim. The correct texture really isnt all fru fru. Th fru fru legs & how you trim them is again personal,we dont over trim but if your going to make sure you trim to your dog & its movement, many trim them to look pretty but emphasis faults. Do you mouse /chalk at home before the show & what hair spray do you use?? Your facebook profile is private so cant see photos Finding some who is offay in stripped coats is really worth hunting for, many may not be able to help alot but explain where your going wrong & whether your technique is bad.Ask some terrier people. If your dog is in good coat & it looks like it has mange & pot holes then yes you are doing something very wrong & most likely breaking the coat. You really need someone who can feel the texture & see the coat help you. -
The heat wrap we use is the same as this site.We got ours from the chemist http://www.lifesolutionsplus.com/the-origi...wrap-p-573.html It wraps around a 4o kg dog.

So i gather she has had them a week & it looks like she has tried something new every day. Some puppies take time to against. She needs to go back to what they had & start setting a eating routine. If they dont eat it in 10 mins it gets taken away. She needs to stop pandering to them & stick with a diet . As for not eating much depends what you are expecting them to eat. Feed them less & see what happens.Your daughter maybe over feeding & i gather if there not eating whats in the bowl there getting treats??

The dermotic is great stuff. The other stuff useless.

This is my GSD boy many years ago.I got him at 15 months with no exposure to small dogs, patience & training made him a great trusted companian. Another is our grey.We got her at 7 yrs supposedly a chook killer & in this photos pups are 8 weeks. Do it right & it will work but dont rush it
-
Why. Lots of dogs are spayed within unknown vacc history. At his age if your not completely sure just get a parvo only booster
-
My old boy has arthritis in his back. His routine is *Bowen monthly *keeping active as possible,no long laying around time frame & short walks * we brought a back heat wrap used each night before bed & it has worked a treat. *Pain killers in moderation,we do use the "pain no more" from the chemist & its also worked very well to keep the pain killers minimal .

Our large dogs only interact when there taught little dog manners. When they have learnt to play with them they must lay down or stay still then they happily interact, until then its no play. This also applies to the small dogs, they are taught not to stir or be silly It would take one rough play & it will snap the min pins legs

The greater majority of ours do. We groom alot breeds where hand stripping is ideally better & all are shown how to do it . setters, spaniels etc etc Certainly some cant be bothered & if the coat isnt maintained then yes it often ends up clipped because you cant over strip in one session & they do nothing for 3 months . The biggest issue we have with cocker breeders is they tell there puppy buyers not to do much till 12 months &then then end up with a over grown wolly & it is hard work to strip it out. Starting early makes it so much easier . All you need is a coat king, slick & easy stone. When pup comes home a flea/nit comb works wonders. Luke nope not in Melb but ask cocker breeders if they can suggest someone. All the breeders here recommend us,Breeders often now those WHO will strip & make every effort . It isnt that hard but the key is to get the dog done professionally more often.Dont leave till its so wild or beyond salvaging
-
Ccckers ideally need to be groomed every 8-12 weeks at a salon unless you are going to be a very dedicated owner. IF the dog has a good top coat then buying the right tools to handstrip is well worth the effort. Although its important to understand a groomer cant do it alone. You need to do alot of the work in between professional grooms. The feet are trimmed because they get hairy, they start to stink & often its an area people dont brush. We groom weekly cockers with bad matts between there toes especially over groom feet. To miantain a nice cocker coat CAN be easy but you need to do the work otherwise you will end up clipping the dogs top coat. We groom alot of cockers because we hand strip & show the owners how to do it & the best equipment to buy without going overly expensive or over the top but it comes down to your effort in the end

Dont feel sad.The more you make yourself seen by the pup the more the pup thinks . Yes your up will have moments of "not quite knowing" but a pup that can be happy & independant outside & choices to potter around outside is a joy for life. Just remember you have 12 yrs of dog & its either 12 yrs of nightmares or 12 yrs of joy

We run boarding kennels & the price variance we see when clients bring there records is amazing. From $70 up to $180 just for the jab, doesnt include consult fee
-
I must have 'non-typical' Wei then - mine doesn't whinge at all!!!! Should I check the batteries or something???? I showed weis for years & ask any boarding kennel. There rep for being whingers is very high up the list & alot of kennels wont take them or will the first time with either a do not return or fine come back. We havea 50/50 rate with weis. The weis i handled where from different lines & different owners & they certainly can be serial whingers & that is one thing they do stress iwth the breed being very clingy to there owners . Some of the weis we board are older rehomes & the reason is obvious ,there whinging & barking. Is your older dog in good health?some dogs can pick up things so maybe he can smell something with Hera

What breed?? If its on the legs strip the coat,(short leg hair can be stripped)Once the dead coat is removed working on the stains will be easier
