Generally what people say is what they mean & what people complain about is what annoys them . First off you have a puppy ,they do damage, they annoy you ,they are work no matter what its breed or combo is . Puppies rely on you too be the owner that teaches them life skills & that applies whether a lazy puppy or active puppy . From the pups point of view its fun is solely in the backyard so the backyard is where it makes its games & fun .This is what its currently been taught . As for lead training pups will scream, lay flat ,chuck wobblies creep about or just get on with it but the more you make off it the harder it will get . Put the lead on in the backyard & start doing leadwork there BUT you need to start building its confidence in the real world & that is solely based on your skills on not giving up . All this would apply to any other dog . So what is your long term plan & expectations from this dog . For example will you always be home based or will you be working outside your home .I say this because at present his all day is about people at home ,has pup been leaving self independence skills ??

Depends on the brand used ,the answer is based on what has been used . Your breeder should be the person you ask about this

I own a breed where the form off PRA is old age so will either be dead before clinical signs or already going blind with cataracts . He is a carrier nearly 13 years . Most breeders will prioritise hips/Elbow scores over an affected status of this PRA as the hips/elbows will affect them more . DNA is useful but many don t understand the pros/cons in the results and within breeds of varying kinds

But this is a major problem in many fields where science is progressing doesnt mean a simple solution to solve an issue . Just like thyroid testing dogs ,most test at 15 months come back clear ,dog may not be clear at 5 years . The other major factor is if looking from an Australian point of view in my own state at the vet teaching school many years ago they did a public talk on irresponsible breeders who dont BAER test. This idiot went on and on to joe public .You could hear the muffled comments . They asked for question time & i listened to some of the very unpleasant accusations based on this vet words & ofcourse the uneducated emotions of the public so i raised my hand . Regarding BAER testing your discussing Yes Have you repaired your machine yet ,have you trained a new person to be able to use the machine ? Vet looked at me . Not a hard question to answer but you have bagged out breeders who dont BAER test ( at that time) . I have been waiting 2 years for your machine to be fixed,it took 8 months to get an actual answer that has had various reasons from machine breaking down to the reader retired & no one was ever trained to use it & teach future vets . I have all this in email . Due to this i actually had to fly my dog to Melbourne to be BAER tested but no breeder can fly a whole litter of puppies to the East to be done . So just wanting to know if the teaching school has sorted there excuse out yet on this supposedly very important matter your discussing but forgot to mention your the only place that offers it . That vet was so embarrassed & i was so peeved off but this struggle is real in many health testing areas they want . Not all states have the facilities too do it ,for some testing clubs band together to do a weekend clinic but its open to limited numbers . I know in WA for example there is no heart specialist to do the full heart certificates ,they had to cancel this years clinic due to covid & then hope they can arrange one next year so that is potentially 2 years of no important testing because the top vet schools or specialists centres dont have this option . It only been the last couple of years a MRI machine has been available for the above testing otherwise you had to fly breeding stock to the East & it becomes a very very expensive exercise .
-
I would consider flying with dogs may not be the same in the future especially in the Cabin . No one can decide for you as both breeds have different quirks, exercise needs ,both are very trainable ,one needs more grooming expenses .

What ever terms he agreed too .

Booked a cavalier puppy but haven’t seen it. Help!
Dogsfevr replied to April_Mum's topic in Puppy Chat
I can tell you the current trend amongst buyers is to not give a stuff about where there pup is coming from & most dont ask any questions at all just hand over there money & want a pup asap . Im in 2 minds regarding the breeder saying no to visits (yes im a breeder) .They opted to mate the pup during covid & the restrictions so they would have been fully aware that viewings & dealing with puppy people different so they could certainly make modifications to how things are done safely & more important;y keep people up to date on how they where going to deal with it . Anyone is a risk of Covid but they can do socially distancing viewing . Meeting the mum if possible is something we encourage ,often the sire may be an outside dog or an AI breeding so not possible . I have brought dogs from the East BUT i know those people ,i trust those people,if buying local i would absolutely expect to come out especially if i have reached the stage of a breeder saying Yes. As a breeder i also understand we have to be smart about who visits BUT i expect i have made enough communications to trust the sale of the pup & having someone out . I can appropriate if they put a limit on visitors . We have a close friend who doesn't allow pick ups from there place ,I personally know the person so its fine for me BUT people we have put on to them find it very hard to work with especially when articles about puppy scammers, mills or seeing the kleeniness of where they where raised is always listed as important. I will add that that doesn't mean free roaming of our place when here .We have had the very odd person come out that took it upon themselves to "go looksy" when pulled up on it they got peeved so there's the dorr see you later . This is our personal home & there are some boundries for sticky beaks , As a breeder we have also stressed to the triple the number of puppy inquiries we have had since March about the cons with going ahead with a puppy at present to ensure they have a balanced Pro/Con list & how things may be done differently with some breeders due to taking measures for safety.. We have received around 200 emails /phone calls for pups right now ,we opted to not breed . If your feeling unsure you can certainly ask more questions . Out of curiosty how old are the puppies at present ,we wont even consider viewing here till 7 weeks plus -
Truly depends on the breed and what that breed has for DNA health testing and what it doesn’t . Not all breeds are the same . For eyes in some breeds you can DNA for PRA and be clear by parentage ,carrier affected . It also depends on what stage that breed is at for eye DNA. For example our breed far too many are advertising clear of Eye issues . This is not true we can only DNA for sector 1 PRA but without the other parts we can not say clear of PRA so yearly /biyearly eye checks must still be done . Most will still do eye checks for cataracts or any other breed specific eye issue not fully covered by DNA tests . if parents are both clear pups are clear by parentage . Health testing of all puppies will occur in breeders where juvenile issues happen so in some breeds and crosses 6 week eye exams happen. Qld requires DNA for parentage ,I can’t tell you the current status on that as it changes a bit . Orivet is one of the providers but not the only one . My dogs where done by AHT in the UK ,others use a Swedish option,Massey in NZ Talk to the breeder

Contact Baycity dog travel or Aeropets in Qld . Other options KCR,Animal logistics etc etc Yes you can arrange it yourself easily you just need the the breeder to be prepared to work in with the limited flight choices . Your br

We have had a dog with a stroke ,her first one was mild so didnt affect her like your dog . Her second stroke did affect her more like your dog & her quality off life & her safety was affected to much for her so we PTS . I agree though you need to do physio to try & encourage body function just like a human & modify things to make his thought process simpler/ A puppy pen is very useful at times like this in particular as a safe zone if you go out or the dog is getting at ad overwhelmed & just needs to slow the brain process down

Trying to find more info about my dog
Dogsfevr replied to selvhound's topic in General Dog Discussion
Exactly this .No one can tell you anymore & this is only providing the mix you where told is even correct & to be honest looking at the pictures i would be questioning that so doing any DNA test on those 2 breeds only would be a waste of money . -
Agree if you want a Corgi off either kind then you need to put your name down or certainly find the breeder that will best suit you . I would imagine for a Corgi you are looking more at 12 months wait so you do need to start doing your own ground work . Maybe also consider the Swedish Valhund ,breeders are just as few as well

Croc is only available from the vets . Has the dog had its thyroid checked..? The dog will be fine on just dry . We feed some human basa fillets poached .

As your seeking out a trainer be sure to ask many questions before handing your money over ,to be honest some cost more for there own first evaluation than a first vet behaviourist consult & you get no where . A grooming client of ours paid $380 first consult evaluation to be told the biggest load of crap out. I actually have handled the dog in the ring so aware off where it needed help & where the owner had taken a wrong turn in the training . With follow up appointments its going to cost her near $500 . So i do say in all seriousness pick the trainer wisely, ask about there experience with possible sep anxiety and if they have knowledge on PICA . If it is PICA and its behavioral then managing it correctly is a must . There are alot of crappy trainers out there ,there are some good ones but finding the one that is the right for for your dog even harder & be prepared there answer may be see a vet behaviorist

It would be case of reading all and then understanding what is deemed an exclusion after the fact . Dog attack most likely covered what the after effects of that claim is who knows Like many pet owners take it out but don’t vaccinate ,chances are they won’t be covered due to owners not ensuring they took all means to cover a disease . Some won’t cover tiger test .
-
I suggest seeing a specialist ,his desire to eat things may be associated behaviour.
-
3 yr cost no more than the others i would be asking your vet why there charging more & most that have is to make the owners at that moment say give me the cheaper one . We do 3 yr or titer & we accept both in the kennels . Not all brands do 3 year . As a boarding kennel owner the mind boggles at the number of vet clinics that can't get it write especially the date of when the next triennial is due . Some have listed 3 year on brands that arent which we have had to point out to clients as they have pet insurance that wont cover an illness due to the clinics stupidity .
-
You have to be your dogs advocate at appointments. Yes sometimes we can over think it or look at the worse and a good vet clinic is there to listen and give you the reality answer . Its hard these days to find clinics that don’t have a vet turn over like you change your undies . Luckily for us we see clinics ( we have 3 we use) that are independently owned . The 3 offer some skills that each other don’t so

I would buy sports witches hats or cones . Set up in the front garden and start doing weaving ,walking to a station (aka cone) asking for a task /trick then back inside. Walking out the door I have never taught the let me out first stuff but my dogs are taught before going out the gate or door to acknowledge me as more fun . With puppies I often take my chair and just sit out the front ,we live on a quite street but it’s about me and chilling . My puppies carry there teddies when learning to walk that’s there job . My guys are showdogs so I don’t want pulling nor do I want a Velcro heel,I want attitude and carriage in the ring but there 30/40 kg and I will not be dragged around . My dogs are taught I’m more Interesting than the world

Need help with Older dog since new puppy came along
Dogsfevr replied to AlisonO's topic in General Dog Discussion
Is the issue walks with the pup ?? If yes have you tried the same walk without pup to see if the behaviour still happens?? The other questions asked above can also be a big factor -
Kangaroo, finely ground kangaroo bone, kangaroo heart, kangaroo liver, kangaroo kidney, seasonal fruits, vege & herbs (kale, spinach, broccoli, bok choy, silver beet, carrots, celery, beetroot, lettuce, cucumber, capsicum, apple, orange, pear, tomato, strawberry, ginger & parsley), cold pressed ground flaxseed, whole egg, alfalfa powder, kelp powder (brown seaweed), brewers yeast, wheatgrass, live probiotics, prebiotics, garlic. Bone is clearly listed & is a main ingredient in any complete raw meal that is what raw is about ,so what ever pre made RAW diet you buy it will always have a bone component . The issue is dogs that arent use to bones often dont have the stomach juices to process them & with older geriatic dogs if not use to them another issue again Bone will pass out when they poop,my dog gets Turkey wings Bone can make some dogs poo harder comes out white . My suggestion to you is stick to something with his allergies issue otherwise you going to end up all over the place deciding which protein is an issue & with the SPD rolls the all have different things . As a side note we stopped using Prime100 due to there rice never been cooked right & very sharp in there Chicken & vege ingredient . You would be better making up your own homemade raw patties & freezing
