  1. I would be inclined to pursue this one aspect & emphasis it APPLIES to all forms of breeders. The unis should maybe be including this in there course but as discussed in the thread in off topic training for vets these days is getting sub standard. It would be great if this vet was also charged if this person created an issue for supporting her "home breeding" Did you happen to get there clinic name??(i dont want to now)
  2. As a groomer there are breeds that do need clipping BUT many breeds people do clip that shouldnt . Most say because they think there dog gets hotter in summer. because it pants it must be hot.Dogs pant to regulate there system, its normal behaviour. Showdogs all around the world remain in full coats with no issues. The reality is you either want to brush the coat or you dont.if you dont want to brush then the dog is better off than being a matted mess but from the grooming side of things clipping off is for the owners convenience not the dogs. The pet shop owner is a tosser any way because there can be many reasons why a dog has been clipped that need to be considered & above all it isnt her business We always educate all clients into there options & outcome on non traditional clipped of breeds & then they are informed to decide either way but the most common reason of late is to stop the hair shedding ( Labs,Rotties etc etc) Mine dont shed there winter coats & only a small handful of breeds do .Also remember the coat dop is the excess under coat not the good coat you clip off . understanding how a coat works isnt a myth
  3. He is never kenneled As a kennel owner never presume never, you would amazed how many people that need to suddenly board there dog which isnt vacc or titred & as such cant be boarded & it has caused all sorts of drama.s for people edit cause the Sp was woeful LOL
  4. http://www.dogswest.com/Pdfs/Events_List_2010.pdf http://www.dogswest.com/ Click on activities & events & it will tell you but easiest is to ask here because it doesnt always list what day which breeds are on
  5. 12 June British Bulldog Club of SA DOGS SA Showgrounds, Kilburn, SA This event is the Bulldog national so there will be dogs & breeders from all over Australia attending may will also breed Frenchies. i would make a big effort to attend this
  6. What sort of dog?? If its a purebreed has she contacted the breeder??
  7. If i had to choose between two that where equal quality with equal faults BUT one had an attitude that would be a major factor,no matter what in the end a dog with attitude is a pleasure to show
  8. Im the same only because its easier than unpacking the car Although mine travel very well in the float . make it comfy keeping the weather in mind .Here if the door opens its a race to get in
  9. I would look at bowen or similiar, get him on a low dose course of meds & simply start doing a a few short walks here & there. My boy is bad but still runs an acre 7 goes for very short walks to keep the whole body functioning. He is on meds ,goes to bowen monthly . We now have him on olive leaf oil for bad joints & this seems to be doing wonders.
  10. Our kennel run lawns have been done this way & its a godsend
  11. Tinea cream or similiar if its yeast. We use hydrogen peroxide(3/4% strength) to wipe feet. If the dog has bad ears you need to treat the feet as it will constantly transfer back n forth. Even plain white vinegar will work on the feet just dunk them in but as already said moist feet breed bacteria . Diet needs to be looked at & that means everything including treats
  12. We dont show pregnant bitches either, not due to infection simply due to drawing the line at some point. Each to there own & i guess what you are actually to achieve by showing & whether the shows are special or not. I think no matter what reality is pregnant what ever the species exposure to illness at times can cause issues & the risk each person takes is there own.
  13. Doesnt sound like a stubborn dog. I would be getting eyes & hearing checked & certainly seeking another opinion
  14. You will need to check with the regs,i believe it wasnt allowed under some WA gaming act . That was the case many years ago when we tried & others did too
  15. Fair enough. I guess as much as I pay someone to look after my dog while I'm away, I still worry about him, that's the kind of person I am. I guess I would have liked to know about his general behaviour, e.g. his barking and eating, so that I could assess whether or not this was normal for myself, and consider that in the context of whether I would leave him there again. I was not interested in hearing my dog was cute In all honesty these are questions you would ask when picking the dog up not whilst your away. We get people who phone & we dont discuss at lengths all in sundry, people just want to now how there dog is going & fine is often the answer,if there is any drama,s we have contact # for people if we need it. generally those that ask questions is due to a specific area (picky eater, health issues, elderly dog .
  16. What exactly are you planning to scissor other than the feet?? For feet only i would just buy Wahl.I use them every day pretty much every day of the week & the last well. We have Jaguar,s but there not cheap but we use them for technical styling
  17. The thing is Kennel are operating 24/7 .When our hours for opening/closing have finished we are still working & people seem to forget that. Irrespective of what time that dog comes in its under your care & covered by your insurance . The dogs get checked before bedtime & in summer depending on the severe heat are still outside at 10 pm (although many kennels dont they shut at 6pm & that is it for the day) We get some dogs that may bark at 2 am ,i will be up there asap seeing why & shutting them in if need be, One has to assume its barking for a reason & to go check especially as you get dogs with medical issues. Kennels aren.t a 9- 5 normal job they work well outside the normal hrs many of there clients would ever consider working themselves. Our day for example starts at 6am & where not finished till 7pm generally latter 7 days a week 365 of the year. Its hard work & often people whinge about the prices & think they should pay a pitence but they have no idea what expenses kennels have BUT a kennel should always offer the basic needs without extra charge unless the dog comes in unrealistic maintainable condition . I certainly now of a kennel that doesnt brush & there highly used ,they reply we dont now how to brush as they own smooth coats.Sda part is those who have used them have ended up with matted dogs that are beyond hope & need clipping off which should never happen There are plenty of wonderful kennels out there but everyone has a different idea, have different council rules & different set ups & its finding the right facility for that dog. We have long coats so brushing isnt a big deal for us & we have all the gear . At peak times some of the larger kennels will have staff to just answer the phone/invoice because the reality is people want you to give there dog plenty of attention but answer the phones aswell & during the severe heat kennels are very busy ensuring the dogs are all stable & coping. We tell people to call & we suggest a time that works well after all we would get people ringing all times of the day & night forgetting time differences & wanting to now how Fred was going. At 2am im not a cheery person & some would take offence that you didnt chat longer . No sorry form them just how is my dog .
  18. Smooth or long should make no difference. If the dog comes in knot free it should leave in the same condition. If the dog is in a monster coat & the kennel isnt good at coat work then they should say no. The problem is most kennels hose whilst the dogs are still in the runs & they get wet & matt easy. With ours there either in there outside yards or shut in there sleeping area so they dont get wet & the runs are scraped dry. It seems in the east that kennels are getting very greedy & charging for things that are part of basic animal care. We run kennels & arent open sunday morning .Most kennels arent. One needs to appreciate we work 7 days as it is 365 days of the year so i think kennels are more than entitled to have one morning session off. Nearly all the kennels i now dont charge per night ,its daily irrespective of time picked up so you would have been charged for 6 days .Many changed to this method after people trying to pull shonkies & getting argumentative when turning up late If the dog went in knot free & came out with knots then complain ,we check all coated breeds before they come in & knot on there sheet if the coat is in bad condition & give the owners a choice of what they can have especially if long term. Weight is easy to loose many dogs run it off quickly but gain good muscle condition but if you feel it lost excessive weight then again ask
  19. Shade sails all the way,if you buy quality you will get better shade & coolness than many trees, less mess & can be removed in winter f need be. We have just installed 2 very big ones in our big yards & on 40 degree day they where divine ,ours are 90% & quality
  20. My dogs as do many never run offleash & are more fit than most are. They are walked, biked but never off leash. Offleash can often be the lazy mans form of exercise & one should make sure what offleash exercise actually equates too & that doesnt mean a casual stroll sniffing at every tree which many call "offleash". Walks in our house is about being constructive
  21. The wandering jew needs to go asap. What do you feed?? Have you discussed the issues with the breeder?/ Does the dog go for wlaks & what sort of area??
  22. Scrape the harness & just get him use to the collar. When we are training our babies(who never have collars) on we head outside & train there as its a fun place & they can venture on there own & follow. We dont do it inside.
  23. If that sounds the way it reads why would anyone allow a dog to travel that way help or not??
