health issues cancer. have known to many kerries to pass away from cancer

Kerries are great dogs but offleash is a requirement then i would be very careful. we had 2 show kerries, our girl was a true kerry, fiessty all terrier Our boy was a total reject LOL a social butterfly who thought anything with 4 legs was to be loved. We rehomed him to a family that owned 4 Kerries prior & where thrilled to get him with his nature & being able to run offleash. There are many Kerries that can be allowed offleash BUT as we say to any that own them dont under estimate the breed. A good breeder would be able to tell those that are more placid & providing you do all the right socialising from a youngster you certainly can have a kerry offleash but that will come down to the commitment you want to put in . No effort then dont even consider this breed Have you considered the Soft Coated Wheaton terrier they arent fiesty like a Kerry but are Kerry size,do very well at obedience

He needs to learn to be away from you more & be more independent. My dogs love me but they also now when the door is shut to go & have fun. It sounds like you need to start re establishing yourself to your rules not his. If he isnt listening there he needs to learn again & at present hes learning that bad behaviour is rewarded. he is a baby so yes he will get excited but shutting him outside or crating wont solve the issue, its time to start teaching the next level

I was 14 yrs there youngest member with a mini schnauzer, although it was a very clicky group to get into.

When i was a member of the super dogs the flyball machines where part of pedigree & they where the big old clunkers At one stage flyball training was started & i brought a flyball machine to train my dogs,i have since given it to a friend ,the machine was an old style & hard for the light weight dogs to use(mine where at that stage 6 or 8 kg). The last i heard one of Melb top teams was going to come over & do a demo & get things rolling & help assist.i was laos under the impression Helena was doing training classes for it . Im lucky if i want to start i have a personal trainer i can call on

So he is generally put out when all the family are together, when food is about ??When its more exciting inside ?? Does he get placed outside when there is no reason to be put out??? Does he have access outside or do you have to let him in/out?? The dog is confused ,go back to basics & encouraging independence. What is his daily routine?/exercise etc etc

It is very easy, different head shape & body shape.

The first point i would say is dont get caught thinking seperate groups so showing will be easy. Groups often clash with distances apart.if your wanting to show both without a helper yes it could/would be hard . havinh shown breeds in sep groups for years at present i am just doingthe one group due to clashing & relying on good helpers to hand my dogs too. Unless your very show savvy pups need a tad more patience to settle so if you have to rush from ring to ring & your not a confident dog handler your dog will feel it asap & it be a waste of time.

i have 2 c crates & 2 alternate. The alternate drives me troppo, weighs a tonne & the roof latches are a royal pain & the door is to small for the size of the pen but we brought it second for a bargain. MyC crates are way lighter, the doors are big .My oldest is about 12 yrs old & used every weekend. the one pictured has alot of bulky latch things that i could say getting caught or pulled off/bent when packing & that door would put me off with the raised height of the ground. I have a trolley to cart them to the ring but the weight difference even lifting into the car or on the rack on the float is quite considerable. Our dog shop sells some similiar to C crate that look very reasonable

Ear Infection, Itchy Skin
Dogsfevr replied to ShepherdAngels's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
There are plenty of products that could be used . Has either of the vets taken ear scrapes to determine what type of infection it is??? Some require certain meds & ear cleaners to knock it off & then a good daily routine but without knowing what exactly it is i wouldnt be washing it out . -
She is a bit overweight but not huge. Argh ,We have found with clients who where fitness freaks it worked well to say the dog deserved the same. Bit hard to use that angle Sounds like your losing the battle which would be hard to watch. Its very sad when people are so selfish they inflict this type of damage to a dog.

Ear Infection, Itchy Skin
Dogsfevr replied to ShepherdAngels's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The floppy ear will make no difference,I have flopped ear breeds & never ear issues. Does she have sore back feet??ie look at her pads underneath,do they look inflammed?? -
Personally i wouldnt get peeved over him being clipped off.In all reality this sounds like a dog better off without coat. My i ask is your mum overweight?? or does she keep herself trim & fit??

This has been discussed recently the topic should be easy to access The header is point score just a few post down

It is very easy & certainly doesnt need a trip to the vet/groomer. Yes it sticks but for a few short seconds. We do all our dogs when bathed . If the dog isnt use to it then i would suggest someone holding the head ,Liftthe tail up & you will see the to pods(as we call them)use a tissue, paper towel & gently squeeze. generally speaking dogs empty there own through toileting or licking but some dont & need help. We had one dog who got an infected sac but it was result of a foreigh object & hers exploded herself without warning, big hole lots of yuck stuff given meds & no issues ever again. Many vets seem to rush in to quickly for surgery but we find thats more due to owners not wanting to do it themselves

Dont worry about the drool. I too have a dog who until 20 months was turd to stack but like your bloodhounds they grow funny & you need to be patient so i did no stack training at all but did alot of free stack & bait/walk into stack.I needed to still do some work without him realising what i was doing . If you look at your body position you are holding up with your knee & squashing with your arm putting the dog off balance The dog looks bored so he would have no desire to stack.I would sooner have a drooler & it be willing & excited (i do have droolers) . Get the lead up under the chin & ear & have in correct position, hold the lead so you have enough room to bait
-
Yes there babies but the first thing i would suggest as there large breed & all my large breeds are taught to walk into a stack,ie free stack then adjust .There big dogs with alot of weight behind them & if you dont lift correctly it will be awkward In the first photo the head isnt in position & the front is out so the dog is unbalanced for the rear legs to be placed. You need to have control of the head . Also the way you trying to stack there rear leg will end in failure as you cant extend it correctly but at the same time your encouraging the pup to tuck its tummy up (harbour bridge look) as your arm is pulling the body up/touching The show stackers work for may but i have never used nor wish to ,i have also handled dogs trained by them & ended up fearful from there experience or terrified to move,so theyhave there good & bad

Cornstarch Vs Cornflour For Grooming
Dogsfevr replied to Garloch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It wont stop matting . We use potato flour on the showdogs BUT its always washed out that day or the next.It builds up -
Its a case of getting judges qualified to judge the % plus group. Overseas most judges are licensed per breed & not many meet the criteria to judge group. The same judges also have to be able to do other breeds if need be with one an ALL breeds 09/2010 - 26/09/2010 MR B OWEN CANADA 2010 ROYAL MELBOURNE SHOW All Breeds, Best in Show 16/09/2010 - 26/09/2010 MR S BESSHO JAPAN 2010 ROYAL MELBOURNE SHOW All Breeds, Best in Show 16/09/2010 - 26/09/2010 MR M FUJITA JAPAN 2010 ROYAL MELBOURNE SHOW All Breeds, Best in Show 16/09/2010 - 26/09/2010 DR T JAKKEL HUNGARY 2010 ROYAL MELBOURNE SHOW All Breeds, Best in Show

Racing greyhounds cab be dual registered to the main register to be shown. Show breed greys can.t. Show line greyhounds are completely different lines all together & you dont get many retired racers that do really well in the ring. There certainly are some shown but when push comes to shove the show/race dogs often are very different. We showed Greyhounds for many years & had multi BIS/BIG greyhounds & had 1 litter. We showed 5 show breed greys. We where offered a number of retired greys to show but they didnt make the grade despite being nice example they wouldnt have beaten our guys.

What sort of food? I would never feed a dog before a flight especially if having to be lodged at 12. I too pick flights that are dog friendly only. What was the temp that day??
-
That would seem obvious but obviously isnt. It seems at a time where promoting responsible ownership & doing right for your dog could be set back in one easy go by Obedience clubs that turn people away or made to feel belittled by there choice. One also wonders if people attending these classes are getting brainwashed if joe public make comments on the street. Its funny you never here anything like that at a show That is madness.

It seems by some posts & clubs regarding difficult dogs maybe its an easy excuse not to have them?? If people are being turned away then the clubs are failing these people trying to do right & it seems hypocritical of the clubs reason for being there If Cc where so horrid why then at dog shows do you see plenty of happy dogs running around with no issues?? When i trialled my dogs they where trained on what they liked, just like my show dogs are shown on the lead that works for them. Obviously you have to pick your collar when trialling but i found for some of my dogs who occasionally got board varying leads just gave them a new pick me up. Having said that over the years & attending OB classes it really didnt matter what lead i used when the first thing out of various trainers mouths where "o dear you have a setter" & you get ignored for the rest of the season A good trainer will have a preference BUT should always be open to each dogs individual needs. I now when i train juniors in the show ring i have a style i like BUT it doesnt mean it matches that child, there dog & abilities. One needs to get to now the person ,dog & there self confidence to set a good path for them. I would never say never because it limits ones skill & thinking

I gather you havent shown GSD speciality style long or you go with your eyes shut
