I need advice for my female Pitbull with Epilepsy attack!
Dogsfevr replied to neena89's topic in General Dog Discussion
All dogs will be different like people . Has her Thyroid levels been checked as that can cause seizure issues . The other obvious is the seizures may be a result of something more in the brain especially if things are changing -
How long is the gap ?? One of the biggest issue creators is when people take the pup to work & dont teach it self independence at home & then all of a sudden its left home & doesnt know how to cope . Make sure your not going to create confusion to what its next stage routime is going to be especially coming into winter . As to the work set up thats going to be based on the kind of area, ability to get outside to toilet, what its temp is like in coping with a different environment,if it will bark etc . But obviously a puppy pen to allow it safe freedom ,toys to amuse itself

Whats the recommended breeding shedule for a bitch ?
Dogsfevr replied to jjj8's topic in General Dog Discussion
Your replying to so many old posts & the above answers arent correct if they belong to an org & The State laws Some states have breeding age restrictions it may be advisable to learn more -
Breeder advertising purebred, pedigree poodles, DNA clear. Then breeder admits in writing not DNA clear they got 2 pedigreed dogs without papers for breeding and 1 on pedigree papers she is breeding with but no evidence of this. False advertising

Daco is the SA microchip database that any dog or cat is legally meant to be on & the registered breeder number is listed . Its not a guarantee of anything but meeting the SA requirements . Details easy to check Here is the issue Honeyhound you dont actually know what that detail is so trying to to discuss stuff with this person isn't going to get you anywhere if you don't actually understand what the various things mean yourself . -

For starters DNA tests vary . DogsQLD require parentage testing ,no other state does at present . Not all breeds have mandatory testing to register a litter in DogsAustralia .What other orgs require i have no idea Breeds that must have testing are listed on DogsAustralia such as hips/elbows etc mind you there is no cut off with what a breeding score is . Each State also has State Govt laws so for Example the Govt laws in Victoria is very specific about breeding hereditary issues & that applies to anyone breeding under any org .So anyone breeding in Vic with a breeders License again no matter what org their using has to also meet State govt laws So it would have to be clearly written in this breeders state laws about what is what . It is certainly not listed in the same manner in my State Govt law. Just checked SA State Gov laws on breeding & there not very strict at all just like ours a few lines of blah blah . If they have breached rules then report them if there listed under probation for the RBPA then nothing will be done as i do know of a breeder issue with that org here so they where not upgraded to full So DNA testing is like an open book & what has to be & what doesnt & what a good breeder does . DogsVic is bringing in parentage & some breeds will require DNA results for breeding purposes which is a very interesting can of worms for AI breedings of old semen that may not be fully tested or able to be tested , Orivet has had many failed swabs .Obviously people wouldnt bred with a dog if you didnt have clear by parentage results which PRA can be but again this would be based on the breeder in question & their morals & ethics Again im not taking sides but i cant not read from whats there a black n white answer without asking correct questions & seeing the health results of the grandparents in relation to the sire & dam . I can actually tell you far too many breeders under the varying orgs have no idea how to explain DNA tests results & some think certain panels tests mean all is good & infact havent tested for issues that are important so hence DNA testing is like an Open book & actually reading whats infront of you . I know in my breed some of the breeders where just getting a general panel test which was full of useless stuff but not doing the tests that arent listed in a panel bundle . Alot of breeders in my breed claim PRA clear but thats incorrect as we can only test for sector 1 without the other sector we cant not claim fully PRA clear .They are still researching at the Bakers institue . Laboklin is probaly one of the most advanced testing places that covers many of the issues most dont . So for some breeds orivet doesnt cover every issue as breeders we may have to use 2 diagnostic places even 3 . DNA testing is not that simple so actually asking questions & knowing whats what is a very interesting world What they may have written could be truthful by knowing what the grandparents results are again it would require a correct conversation to know what has or hasnt been tested including hips/elbows which havent been mentioned . -

Where does it say DogsNSW member ?? Maybe i missing that exact wording . It says got her dogs from 2 NSW breeders . They could from any of the various registers . If you can highlight the DogsNSW part it would be great . Again im not supporting anyone just if people are going to do these posts lets make sure its clearly listed -

Rarely does someone join a forum & the first post like this one . I dont take anyones word without proof to back up the he said ,she said . There is always 3 sides to a story his, hers & the truth The posts gets stuff added but no actual facts . Anyone who has dealt with orivet knows the problems Many ethical breeders have had multi failed swabs ,,taking months to get results to even register litters & unable to register their puppies to meet the state laws in their state & having to wait ,retest many opting to send blood know . Qld folk will tell you all about the issues plus many more from around Australia especially as they have to do parentage tests. Dogs Vic is joining the same method & people are panicking over how things will proceed next year We use overseas as do many others including Massey,Animal health diagnostics or Labkolin If both parents of dam & sire where clear then the parents are clear by parentage . Registered breeder can still mean brought from MDBA. No record of this breeder having a pedigree papered breeding poodle. The dogs could have come from a MDBA breeder or the other various registries ( again i dont support the other spin off registries but we can not claim someone doesnt have a registered dog in their name when there are other registries out there whose data base we cant access nor can we even check on the DogsAustralia page who owns a pet dog ,we can check registered litters by prefix . I still dont get the point of the post . The pups are insanely cheap . They belong to a register that are useless if you want to be part of Dogs Australia People will buy what they want . If you want a papered dog go to a breeder that offers what you want If they have broken there state rules dob them in . There are aspevts that can be explained but unless every aspect is there to read not bits & pieces its just another us v them post -

Unless you have the written proof to back it up its you v them still . If you believe there's a breach then report them no point coming on to DOL . At this point your post could have an agenda as its a weird thing to post & you only joined a few days back & this is your first postso its does ring "strange" . And no i dont support them but if your going to bag out anyone one then you need the proof to back your claims up -
What did the vet tell you .I gather you asked? But i would imagine its like the human version where there is a period to wait . Besides the other obvious if he was only spayed last week he should not be allowed to even try mating her with the stitches in & that common sense after surgery protocol is followed

Not sure what the point of your post is ?? There not claiming there DogsNSW members Anyone can buy 2 dogs & breed them. There are various registries out there ,whether we agree with them or not they are legal & recognized There a member of an org that also caters for crossbreeds details of that group clearly listed & easily to research . Breeding is easily allowed & dont understand how people cant grasp the concept as long as they meet there State laws you can be . Stop the Puppy Farming bills dont stop breeding a breeder all clearly written for anyone to read . As to the other aspects not going to comment as its your words not their written word -
The problem is people think offleash park means there dog gets to run around doing what ever, saying hello to whomever with no boundaries or contraol. Infact offleash park is a place for an owner to allow there dog offleash have effective control & the requirement is not to have every randoms dog annoy you. So at present your teaching your dog to do what ever it wants at the park, its a herding breed that can sometimes confuse reality & real life & at an age where its brain is learning new things . The problem is your letting a pup make adults decisions without any foundations or skills being set up . The dog is now showing signs of reacting to a degree but the next age stage is either going to make or break how the dog is able to control itself & how much trouble you want to get into if it picks on the wrong dog . Personally dog parks are like a place for the village idiots that think its a free for all & that teaching bad dog manners is what every has agreed too. This dog need to taught & not at the expense of the other dog new life skills. The dog park every day actually offers no life enrichment, skills, boundaries or educating . What it does teach is i get to an oval my leash is unclipped & i go do what i want . Start walks onleash around the area teach skills ,teach good leash manners & more importantly teach being offleash is a privelage not a right including that mindset for yourself

Mind you so many people hand their dogs over to uninsured /no contract pet sitters & this happens. People who volunteer to pet sit forget they become the legal owner whilst in there care & if something goes wrong there liable . The reason you have a written contract no matter if its a family friend, family member or some randon on a facebook breed group volunteering to watch your dog

Phone the council . People need to start making the rangers do their job . But its the last place i would take my dog anyway . Also buy a body camera great for videoing these issues if anything does happen

Why are so many dogs leash reactive these days?
Dogsfevr replied to Amazetl's topic in General Dog Discussion
Because so many owners are thick as a brick & let their dogs just go up to any dog without thinking & without respecting their own dogs lack of manners . To many dogs getting bullied onleash & deciding to get in first . Sad reality but Australian dog owners do themselves no favours . Covid can not be blamed that excuse is just so over used ,bad leash manners was not covids fault . Extendable leads, dog park bullying & entitled owners who think Fifi can come over saying hello without asking And TOO many useless dog trainers who pander to owners instead of simply laying down the future in black n white . I do know of many owners who gave up training as trainers just seemed to suck them into a long term plan for training with no results or solutions offered . Whilst im all for positive training saying No is not the end of the world And snowflake owners who think Fifi heart will be broken if its owners grows some balls & steps up to being the owner their Dog would love to have instead of the owner they end up with -
Most parts of the world have done it successfully for years without any problems. Australians want more for their pets then dont want when its offered /suggested . The biggest change in mindset will be Australians learning to embrace a dog crate & as so many are anti crates . I just wish my dogs meet the criteria & that criteria will eliminate most pets And you can already fly out of Melbourne on Qatar i think it is to Dubai with dogs in crates in the cabin but comes with requirements too .

Home Owners Rent Backyards to Dogs for Cash. ABC News 2/3/24.
Dogsfevr replied to Deeds's topic in In The News
This is nothing new just like all the people who offer to house sit friends dogs with no coverage . Whilst in your care you are the legal owner so if the dog bites, causes damage etc etc you are liable . Legally its very simple pay for business insurance & have a business contract . -
Dog Breeder Claims May Put Unsuspecting Owners at Risk
Dogsfevr replied to Deeds's topic in In The News
I believe the Pitbull & Am Staff are very separate breeds but fall under the category of "Bully "breeds just like Staffies. No different to Whippets,Grehounds being sighthounds . We boarded a number of Pitbulls many many years ago when you could honestly say they where true to type pure we also board alot of Am Staffs . You could tell the difference easily when both a breed true to type . These days Pitbulls rarely are true to type or even the breed . So many created as pig dogs mixed with anything . I can honestly say the Pitbulls we boarded where the most delightful dogs . The above situation wouldnt have mattered if it was a Labrador ,dumb owners not accepting what the dog had done & using there brains accordingly . As for council well all you have to do is look at Found dog posts & realise they have no clue what too label the dog found . I mean so many still list a black fluffy as a Maltese -
The most devasting part of this is vets are the ones who have to do the sh#t part of the deal in an indutsry that already has the highest suicide levels & put down healthy dogs.rescues have the same deal . I totally understand that some of these crosses are just so extreme with bad owners whether that be macho nobs to those who claim clueless & dont have the strength to control such powerful dogs (even if friendly) This also affects people who rent houses as it can factor into your tenancy insurance so people who have done the right thing in getting the dog certified could then have there lease cancelled . There have been some horrific attacks in the UK but they have done breeds bans before as has Europe . This should be many Australians wake up call as we are extremely naive country full of entitlement without actually training dogs to be in public

Plus the other obvious if your dog caused a car accident you would be liable there too consider this a cheap fee for a second offence . Learn from this & be more responsible & read the dog act . a client of ours many years ago was in the same scenario as the other person ,she ended up falling over protecting her dog .Broke her hip & passed away from complications of the injury because "the dog just simply ran across the road" Owner cried "poor me" like you & learnt very quickly being a nob gets you no where fast .That owner was sued & the family won as there was plenty of witnesses & CCTV footage No attack but the actions fall under that category . If you lose just to prove a point with time be prepared for a bigger bill

Something fishy about this post . Even a cowboy company wouldnt claim "leave in undisclosed pound" Would love to see the email that claim this & i gather you have taken action in small claims court & got your money back .

We have had dogs pass out eating them so its good to be cautious. Some dogs no matter what you do with them freeze, bash an end are just not meant to eat them so yes supervise. I never feed them brought that day always freeze first . Some dont have the stomach acids for them to be a viable choice either & dont overload with too many. Use brains & common sense if it doesnt look successful then the world wont end if never feed again

Aggressive dog boarding - southeast Queensland
Dogsfevr replied to Ben111's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Most boarding kennels will not take on liability dogs. We wont take knowingly aggressive dogs . Your biggest factor will be finding a facility built to manage & minimize the issue your dog has . Aka if dog aggressive then a facility set up so the dog cannot spar through the fences all day & night ,become over stimulated & reactive If you human then most wont bother . Also consider the time of year boarding that covers quieter periods . Sadly many kennels have had their experience with issue dogs & dont repeat the experience often as its too stressful for the staff & the dog -
I think in general puppy sales has hit a low also factoring that puppies coming into the new year can always be harder to sell with the start of the year being one of many $$$$. We never had puppies over this period (granted we never had issues selling either) Renting issues with Pets & general uncertainty for many people . I also think for some breeding fade colours only the world is realizing to a degree it can come with vet bills & are being smarter shoppers

Housetraining question (actually more 'when is he not a baby' question)
Dogsfevr replied to BDJ's topic in Puppy Chat
You are training him that the 2 options are acceptable all day . Its time especially during the day to make sure that outside is the only choice . -
Nope wouldn't leave on my dog will rust any way but to high a risk of getting caught on something with martingales
