We remove ours . I have enough severe scarring from boarders who never trim dew claws big & small.the biggest been a 5inch slice around my thigh, peeled open like a banana. I do now of goldies who have ripped them out after getting caught on fencing Many vets prefer not to do it & if not removed correctly when older can cause issues.

Yep agree. How social is the spaniel.how much exposure has she had to big dogs that are females?? will they be both house or outside dogs?? You do need to look at her temp & limits around other dogs & then match accordingly. My friend breed GSD & i had a male who i found to be way more tolerate around smaller dogs than there girls

Stained Fur On Feet And Mouth
Dogsfevr replied to luv mini schnauzers's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
what do you feed. We breed minis & have done so for nearly 25 yrs.Excessive drooling isnt typical of the breed. Is she fat?? What do you feed?? Does she have any health issues?? Have you contacted your breeder. As for raw V other ours arent feed raw & arent stained . -
Here RCC ribbons where stopped by most clubs many many years ago. i too dont collect them & hand them back, many clubs now are starting to to not have them ring side & you go to the office to ask because people would throw them in the bin,let the dogs chew them up or the likes. Those ribbons cost $1 plus these days so clubs have to draw the line somewhere. The certificates would cost even more. There is nothing stopping ypu from printing up a certificate

We board alot of dogs from up there. Ticks area massive issue. vet bills are insanely expensive so if your dogs are due to be vaccinated which i would advise as there is a higher aboriginal population with local dogs roaming then get it done before you get there, also stock up on tick stuff or buy over the net. depending on what you feed premium dry is also $$$$$ . yes it is very hot up there & the greater majority of dogs are inside dogs or the owners have gone to alot of trouble to provide specific shade for coolness due to the excessive long heat.even now the temps av 36/38 so winters arent very cool.many perth people head up there for the warmth in winter. I now the club up there runs shows & trials, very small numbers but they survive

The main thing is any of the breeds recommended can still react to some people but breeds considered more suitable are poodles schnauzers bichon lagotto Portuguese water dog kerry blue terrier soft coated wheaten lowchen bedlington & there are a number of others that i cant think off. Obviously the main pitfall is any breed that doesnt shed needs hair cuts but some can last longer than others between trims

That's a bit rude, a full on teenage Wei is not for everyone. Finding the dog that is suitable is all that is needed. I dont know about that... I'd probably be pretty defensive if it was my breed too. The dog is only behaving exactly the way you would expect a dog of that breed and age to act. The OP made a mistake in choosing a Wei (or any large breed, high energy dog) if she cannot/does not want to deal with that kind of behaviour. But no point in flaming now, the deed is done, she is returning the dog and I think she has learnt her lesson too. I disagree, just because one individual of a breed does not suit a situation does not mean the OP shouldn't have a dog. This dog also sounds as if it has not had a lot of groundwork put into it before the OP took it on, if it had it could well have been much more suitable. head to the wei forum & read there

Stained Fur On Feet And Mouth
Dogsfevr replied to luv mini schnauzers's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It will be saliva. She most likely is licking her feet which means she either has tinea or a fungi issue. Some minis can be wet mouths & diet can play a big part . Is it just her front feet/both feet ?? & does she have bad ears/yeasty/infections?? -
Appearance wise quite alot, pointers should have a dish face, bee sting tail.(best to look at the breed pages) Different body shape & should look like a line of graceful curves. Temp wise the pointers are more laid back, not obsessive or needy

What Breed To Recommend To Young Family?
Dogsfevr replied to ZAUBISTAR's topic in General Dog Discussion
Std Schnauzer in the right family can work with kids BUT people must understand the breed. The 3 sizes of schnauzers arent the same. minis companion dog Std working dog giant working dog. We have minis & never had a snappy or yappy BUT do have some we breed who have become yappy as the owners allow it. Stds are more vocal than minis & have had experience with both sizes for over 25 yrs. I would own a mini/giant before a std & you do have to be the right owners for a std due to there working drive & above all extreme intelligence. Many owners are unable to cope with this breeds ability to learn & need to learn & put it all together. A board std can be your worse nightmare BUT the breed can be the perfect fit for the right family. I would tell them to go to some dog shows & see what they like. As a side night to the Viz & GSP suggestions i prefer the wire varieties & find them to be less needy -
yep i had a dog who when i started training up was super head wrap dog & i had to ensure there was a on/off switch for each aspect. Luckily for me i have found it easy by making a point of different collars but you could still occasionally see that little moment & this dog had a wonderful front but once in wrap mode you would have thought you often see it hear in the goldie ring where the dogs are looking up & there front starts to go. Small dogs is also worse due to the way they look up. Many dont realize this but what the judge sees in that short time can determine a win /lose ratio. My guys are encouraged no end, food, squeaky & when leaving the ring & safe i will play tug, anything that keeps them wanting to return

Not every dog fits the mould. A dog constantly looking up at you will throw its front around. perfect example is watching obedience dogs at heel, there looking up & there dogs fronts are all over the place. I talk, will squeak & the likes but my guys are trained not to react in a silly way but to react in a attitude way. Just like some dogs go stupid for food, others work well some couldn;t give a toss. My dogs are always given some form of encouragement its a case of what works with what dog ,having said that your whole attitude & body language plays the biggest part . You can talk till the cows come home but if your a boring handler it will do nothing

Chow Chow Puppy Snaps At My Other Dogs. How Can I Stop That?
Dogsfevr replied to spirrall's topic in Puppy Chat
I agree with jed, this dog has flown over from NZ,been home 2 days & it sounds like not given a chance to slowly fit into the group instead expected to just fit in. It suddenly has 2 new adult dogs around it & no where that is its own space at present. It has had lots of visitors patting each day but when has it been given a chance to simply now its new home without every Tom,Dick & Harry visiting. Yes the breed has special needs & its good your aware but its sounds like this dog needs some "it" time to simply get to now the new house, new dogs, new owners ,new Routine & less push. Feeding should be done in its crate or a safe area until its got into a routine . I think you need to take a step back & slow things done & allow this pup to settle without your current dogs also annoying it. Any new pup brought in here is introduced slowly & steady. It may work in a day or take a few days but it isnt rushed . Young new dogs can come with a different smell so they are bathed so our own dogs dont annoy over the odour & then given time to just slip into our routine -
Trust me localized means nothing having a had dog that bloated & showed minimal swelling & going to the vet at the very first signs our dog had actually already twisted . This said dog was still playing with his toys, walked into the vet with his fav teddy & acted as nothing was wrong but nowing our dog we saw a sign . Dog was PTS due to the twisting . This dog had severe thyroid issues so was infact chronically underweight so the swelling wasnt normal at all but having owned breeds predisposed any small sign is enough to head to the vet without a second thought. Bloat doesnt wait a few hrs but every minute counts if it is. Bloat doesnt always show up in the typical fashion to look out for

We never give any extra calcium,a good diet is all that is needed. We also never use sandoz ,that was the it product like 20 yrs ago
-
I agree with this although i would prefer judges to be a tad more thoughtful . The worse offenders judge wise are often the ones who whinge the most when its done to them ,go figure
-
There are a number of breeders in the same boat. The only issue we have is a long weekend full of boarders & now have to find spots for 5 dogs stuck so far & awaiting to hear on 2 more

I presume you live in NSW so i would suggest you go to the Lab National show being held in NSW on the 8/9 may. There will be labs from all over australia there & the entry will be one of the biggest you will so.

This coat is made of full water proof product , I brought it in Melbourne for my showdogs in the rain. But like all others have said the fabric needs to be pro active & not create issues. As for oiling it shouldnt be so heavy it leaves marks, our showdogs in the pat where oiled & lived in the house & never covered
