  1. Actually don’t think the breeder is a liar. It sounds like without all of us knowing the facts the breeder has been good maybe not the outcome you expected but in the scheme of things good. Was $3500 including air freight or did you pay extra . No site guarantees a breeder and even the best of breeders have sad moments. Just like parents who have a child with issues Yes puppies die at birth ,that was the litter most likely set aside for you ,breeder had no pup/s but refunded you the money .Just because there are other puppies doesn’t equate to you getting one. The breeder could have said right I will replace the pup but not expecting another litter for a year especially that colour so felt the refund was the best solution . We many years ago lost 6 puppies due to a bad vaccination batch at 6 weeks ,6 homes heart broken including ourselves . Did you get an autopsy done .? Has you vet supplied you with a written report? Your pup would have needed a fit to fly vet check in the 2 weeks prior to leaving . Lesson here is breeders should take out the free pet insurance on pups leaving . Owners should take out pet insurance as well . This is a great lesson for kids ,Mother Nature can be cruel to the breeder and owners ,owning pets is heartbreaking and heartwarming. No need to make anything more of it to your child than things in life don’t always work out ,you move on and find another breeder . Maybe the breeder is embarrassed ,maybe you sent messages they felt was no longer a working relationship and it was best to refund Either way it’s time to move on .
  2. And breed makes no difference ,I now plenty of Basenjis who don’t tick your boxes . You are simply a dog owner who needs to know the temp fencing going up is suitable to contain your dogs for the time frame given as that’s a council requirement. Most temp fencing will sit in the plastic holders that won’t be dog safe by that standard . i agree go speak to the neighbour about your issues . What time frame have they given for the job ,does it cover weekend with no work done . When doing the job on the day is the fence coming down..?? Theres are the things I’d be asking and if you need to day board your dogs as it’s a safer option will they pay ..
  3. Some teething pups get tonsillitis so a vet visit is your safest option .
  4. I would be engaging with the breeder ,they will be your biggest help long term on any issues you may face . The breeder was most likely taken back to receive a call about this dog and the rehome . Whilst the dog is yours the previous owner may have signed a contract . The breeder can flag the microchip and you would need to prove ownership so in all honesty working with the breeder is your best tool . If you don’t want too phone them email that you realise your call would have been a shock but moving forward xyz is loved etc etc and we would love your support and help going forward . As to your question if lost lost yes the current person listed on the chip is the person they will call. Some vets are refusing to treat animals whose chip details don’t match there client .
  5. As a breeder we buy the pup back ,reassess & rehome at any age .
  6. Most Breeders don’t have websites or pages ,if relying solely on those you may miss out on good breeders . The breed page isn’t where breeders hang out or post . The breeders listed on Dol and the Goldie club are a great start Are you after cream,Darker colour .?
  7. rarely can you "just buy a pup ". Find the breeders that interest you ,contact them, ask questions & if they feel like a good fit put your name down & wait . This year has seen every Tom,Dick & Harry want a dog ,its been an unprecedented time with inquiries & breeders need to go through those inquiries to find out who are time wasters & who a seriously looking for a pup . When i say time wasters i mean they havent decided they want the breed or done any research into the breed . In our breed since March we have had near 300 inquiries & we are struggling to reply to the various emails especially with questions asked that they could have easily already found at that info with research ,For our breed that question is does it need brushing or grooming .It is a frustrating thing to have to reply to when the breed is a coated breed. So find your breeder ,make serious contact & wait . Contact the Golden Retriever club if you have any info you need clarified .there are plenty of good breeders in Qld but going through websites waitig for puppies to appear will get you no where ,you need to make personal contact
  8. I would never give my dog antlers there too hard & cause teeth breakage young & old . You need to select correct weight bearing bones for the dogs age & ability & most importantly teeth quality through the ages , Antlers also dont allow for chewing more scraping . The point of bones is either part of diet content or for teeth cleaning ,bones dont stop a chewer, rock eating . I would suggest asking your pups breeder what they use & why . Also be mindful of all the added flavours there not natural . You have a breed that can have skin issues so being mindful off all the added stuff is important
  9. First lesson at 4 months there never 99% house trained there well versed in owners taking them out ,its very important to teach pup at the same time how to alert you if it has no access outside on its own if it does have access you need to keep on top of the self independent journey off going outside . Most owners at that age either carry pup outside on a schedule to toilet or make pup follow . So what is your pups routine ??
  10. Actually the Blacks are more loving & calmer can be more sooky . Black n Silvers are vocal can be fiesty generally more not typical Mini (The other colours if derived from a B/S pedigree can be more toey like a B/S Salt/ peppers same as Blacks Whites different again . Biggest issue with most owners today & we see it in the dogs we groom which is alot of Minis is the furbaby mentality & simply not treating them like dogs . A Mini should be a very smart all round dog that succeeds highly in obedience trials & agility ,make amazing theraphy dogs but they are dogs a very functional working breed that is sharp as a tack when there meant to be ratters
  11. Most its the other way around Stds can be rough & push kids over & have the complete opposite temperament to a Mini ,there not the same breed in 3 sizes . Minis arent small there a sturdy robust dog ,Stds are strong & can just plough through kids so all 3 sizes come with different owner requirements & parental supervision . I showed Stds for many many many years & they certainly arent for everyone ,there a working dog & need owners prepared to work the dog & there brain to be a great dog . There also very loyal to there owners sometimes that can be taken too far even with play fighting amongst there humans
  12. You can buy a new pair for $199 free postage some other places cheaper
  13. At the end of the day the name has to be important to you & thats all that matters ,we just personally dont use things that for us imply perfection or one looks at the catalogue & says it doesnt really match its name . That choice has meaning to you and you must be happy with choices 1 & 2
  14. Names we tend to go with are names that don’t imply something or comes back to bite .Hotashell mirror of the Heir Hotashell Royal Reflection (without his ) Hotashell Quilton on T Throne .
  15. Both breeds always have a waiting period not just because of covid the only difference Covid has had for us is since March we have had near 300 puppy inquiries .Unprecedented compared to the near 30 years of breeding . Hardest part is weeding through the legit V the novelty/havent really thought about the life time commitment aspect . The wait for the right breeder & pup is worth it & gives you plenty of time to set up & also teach your little one with a plush doggy how to pat nicely or read through the kids safe dog programme You can do many things to assist your little one to not be fearful of a puppy that is going to jump, nip, snatch .Puppies will be puppies but many toddlers can be fearful of there excitement which can over stimulate a pup or make the pup not want to be with them .
  16. Nope no matter what the breed its parental supervision & realistic expectations & ensuring the pup/dog has a safe area set up for its own time out from a toddler is what makes the final outcome . The most bomb proof pup can end up fearful & an issue if the humans arent paying attention to warning signs & its tolerance level. As they say the dog is only as good as the owners
  17. When it comes to dogs and kids no breed is better a child off that age is alll about parental common sense and a child actually being ready for a dog . We breed one of your listed breeds and we will sell to homes with young kids but we have also said no to many more due to the adults presuming as the breed is good that’s all the effort they need . We can sell a well adjusted puppy but what you do after that makes or breaks how the pup will build a relationship with a toddler . Poodles can be more off a one person dog compared to Minis,Minis need more grooming than a Poodle .
  18. You need to ring your state body of consumer law not the RSPCA . Was the puppy vaccinated when you got ..?? I think you will find you are entitled to something and would look at small claims court . Keep records and copies of all info and deal with emails only ,attached a reAd receipt. If need be send a letter registered mail
  19. Maybe give us more info. Whilst you say the right fit is important does that mean short, long haired ,simple grooming expense grooming, what weight range would be better suited ?? Are you wanting another Staffy if so have you tried contacting the club as often they know of breeders wishing rehome home older dogs or dogs owners can no longer keep .
  20. If you do rehome then you need to be very upfront regarding this dogs issues ,this dog at present is a liability & your responsibility to pick the safest path for the dog & any prospective owners .
  21. Your consumer rights would be zilch . You would have to prove the dog had an issue from day 1 and I gather your vet never noted an issue at its second or potentially 3 vaccination. How many times has pup been to the vets since purchase to this diagnosis as it would have shown obvious signs ? Has the groomer made any comment about the knee clicking or different muscle tone ? ACL is generally injury based ,some breeds or individual dogs can be higher risk . Most do them running, leaping, twisting, chasing balls . jumping up n down the bed,car all things Breeders tell pet owners not to do . As to what option no one can say as each damage is specific to the outcome or better option
  22. We pay irrespective . Some charge a service fee which often works well in the what if’s but the presumption it’s the males fault doesn’t cut it ,her dropping 3ggs is just as important. Obviously she could have reabsorded them so technically conceived.. The problem is most blame the dog for no pups . Was she prog tested?. But at the end of the day everything needs to be clearly written out about fee, reservice, what you consider a litter
  23. Crates are more than just cages . If your dog needs to spend a day at the vet for surgery there crated,if your dog breaks a leg or does a cruciate or needs rest Crates are a great tool.. If you suddenly need to fly your dog there crated & above all if ever an emergency crates keep the dog safe . The crate is just like the 4 walls off the house but above all too a dog those 4 walls offer comfort . All my dogs are crate trained & why .There showdogs, they fly, they travel in the car in the crate ,we live in a high fire risk area so they can be crated safely if requiring evacuation or limiting where they are .When i travel to shows some motels require a dog to be crated in the room but above all they just luv there crate for quiet time jus like we will sit on our fav chair or spot . If work men or visitors come they can safely be housed away (visitors more based on the person being an issue ). This doesnt mean the crate has to be used every day off its life but a dog that can be happy in one makes its easier for them . Sighthounds love a community & for many there crate makes up for the lack off that . Keep in mind that sep room of 4 walls is a big lonely world for a pup in the dark ,everyone just vanishes . So your options are limited .You stick to the routine & take the good with the bad,as mentioned move pup into your room using its bed only or using a crate or just a puppy pen to make the area off space smaller & less overwhelming . The best way to answer is what is the long term sleeping plan though ??
  24. You really need to seek the advice of a repro vet who can actually tell you what is in the collection not just colour .Is there any viable sperm,is it broken ,slow etc . As to checking that again can vary ,on a dog we tried to collect from last year we where told to wait 3 months before attempting to do so again due to sperm quality & this was with a repro vet that checked the sperm . Another dog who we used tablets on we had a sperm check done 8 weeks ago ,he was placed on tablets & checked last week.his sperm had improved greatly . He was used over 2 girls AI matings & the quality improved each insemination
