  1. Why do you want obedience to be repetitive & boring? You've lost me there. Obedience should be fun for puppies! I think it is to test how willing the dog is to work for you. I obviously pushed her too far though. She is fine during her normal training which is short and fun. I just thought i'd throw in this exercise that we did at puppy school one time. This dog is a puppy & like the above poster training shouldn't be repetitive & boring. I would never push a puppy to see how willing in this fashion when it is working well already. So many dogs go stale through lack of enjoyment & people simply ruin there willingness to work .
  2. Eagle pack gave my guy the worst runs out. There will be no right answer but yes i do now plenty of dogs who can not tolerate the premuin foods.
  3. Most chi breeders place out latter because they are vaccinated latter than many other breeds. Also because of there skull formation being different to any other breed most prefer to wait until it is more developed
  4. The too small ones have resulted in tongues being caught in them & some dogs have lost part of there tongue or died in the heat due to not being able to drink.
  5. Extremely common & i amazed how many DOLERS tell people to use kongs & treat balls when owners go to work. Those treat balls are even more dangerous. We get clients who bring in kongs & we warn them of the risks but its the owners choice. Also the number of kongs with mould growing inside them from left over food is also
  6. The dog has Tinea, just go to the chemist & buy tinea cream The vet will sell all sorts of useless stuff which won't deal with the issue If you want to use vinegar just buy plain white vinegar You can also use 3% hydrogen peroxide from the supermarket
  7. Friends do & it is very succesful. They have been lucky in there area that someone is good a killing/skining so they keep the fur & they take home the carcess
  8. Kennels that do training generally charge for it . So it depends whether you simply want a good kennel for1/2 weekes or a kennel that does both?? Your dogs shouldn't get bored if you select a kennel where they spend many hrs in the outside yards & not 10 mins am/pm whilst they clean. You also shouldn't be paying for outside time
  9. was also going to say training the aussie unless there is an issue there ??
  10. Fox mange is awful certainly pay special attention to any signs
  11. Not sure what you have actually researched or read?? Hips/elbows are what they are when rayed,if there bad there bad. Eyes are tested yearly unless the dogs have been DNA cleared iF both parents are dna clear they can't produce PRA. Hips & elbows can crop up even from clear parents but it is a good start. There is also the owner aspect that can play havoc there too. As to who to buy from that is purely up to you ?? What guarantee does the pet shop give?? Do they show all testing of the puppies parents?? How do you now there pure labs?? What will the temps be like without seeing the parent/parents?? What long term help will they give you for questions ?? Surely as you have reserached you would sooner by a pup from a breeder that does health test & is fully aware of the issues & striving to minimize the issue than to by from a pet shop that doesn,t care ??? I would sooner rescue a lab pup from the pound or rescue then buy through a pet shop & take my chances of what i get. You pay the same price if not more through most pet shops with no history Just a pup & off you go. Breeding dogs is a dedication & good ethical breeders do there upmost to breed no issues BUT just like humans things can happen. Just as many pet owners who don;t listen tpo there breeder suggestion can create on going issues .
  12. Mine go irrespective . I have mine booked in for every major show for the year Then maintenance in between. It generally works out every 3/4 weeks .I do it as part of the fitness regime especially the big dogs. Even when i don't think there sore there is generally a slight "something" that can be worked on sooner than latter. Also don't get conned about some people that do a "full exam first " at some ridiculous price before the work on the dog
  13. Yes we have had both since 8 weeks of age. I have been wracking my brain as to any changes that have been made. I had her desexed about 3 weeks ago and she seems to have found her voice since then. Did you spoil her after this procedure??
  14. I use both & swear by bowen, Chiro is crunching the joints/bones Bowen is about relaxing muscles, helping to lubricate the joints plus many more things. Without the muscles functioning well the bones are useless Pick a good one. I have used chiros for 24 yrs bowen 6 & would pick bowen over a chiro any day. It is gentler on the body My dogs see one every 3/4 weeks http://www.bowen.asn.au/ Not recommending anyone on this site just informative about bowen
  15. As a groomer we wouldn't clip off by choice BUT if the mats are so bad then no groomer will get them out because the pain to the dog is not pleasant. We have had to clip 2 RC off & they came off like a sheep as one piece & no matt breaker would have got through it & we wont put dogs through a certain level of pain to remove bad knots. Are you using the tools the breeder recommended?? Most collies with will brush out easy with the right gear & patience, Don't bath the dog as it sets the mats worse. A good groomer would be able to tell you what they can /can;t do & what it will cost which may not be cheap
  16. Erny we have used bowen for 6 yrs , I now you say the dog has other issues but do consider bowen even for the stomach upsets. Because of the way spondo works & the dog is a tad sore it uses other muscles ,my boy had liquid runs a few months back & it was due to his stomach muscles being affected by his back .His stomach was spasming & in turn the runs The dogs don't have to be relaxed as such for bowen. my guys stand & you would be surprised how easily they accept it & tolerate it . My guys fall alseep part way through. Esther C gave alll my dogs the runs badly
  17. Hi PF, what sort of dosoage do yoy use for the rosehip tablets? Do you use the human variety? TIA At present i am using the human kind which doesn't work out cheap BUT was the best option to see if it worked with no issues. Apparently there is an equine product which dogs can use that is similar so i need to check it out. The Rosehip dosage for humans is 5/6 tabs a day . I give 2 tabs for my 40 kg dog & have found that to work well . My boy is at the severe end & the last X rays the vets can not understand how he is walking . He runs an acre & lives like a dog.Yes he has his off days . I did find a good bed a must (not tramp beds ) . Although i solely believe the Bowen is the miracle for him & monthly better still every 3 weeks. Generally due to the condition his spondo isn't what flairs up but the other muscles that are doing a double load
  18. I have a dog with spondo & basically he has Bowen monthly or more if needed but anymore than 4 weeks & he will start to get very sore. Cartrophen weekly (older dog & works very well this way for him plus he has it bad now). I seriously found the gluco & the likes not to work real well BUT use human stuff .I use rosehip tablets which have worked very well. wearing a coat is amust to keep the area warm & good bedding that is supportive & keeping active

  20. I agree with others you have only contacted a small handful of breeders . As for going oversea's depends how much you wish to spend on a pet pup?? As you say your talking to a lady in the US.The dog couldn't come out till atleast 9 mths i think it is(maybe 6 mths) to meet testing requirements. The dog will then be a hefty puppy so shipping expenses will be top end . Are you happy to get a dog that age?? Price wise i would look around $9/10000 if not more
  21. Dogs born with deformed tails can be docked. Nothing sinister nor would i just presume because it,s docked it was breeder being "naughty". If you wanted to now that bad then next time go ask
  22. Has the owners given permission or signed him over ??
  23. Bel, you sure do get around. Saw your great results at the Darwin Royal. I'm so envious, would love to take Bohdi interstate to show. Can you tell me what you take at a minimum to have your Shih tzus ready for a royal when you are not at home. If your talking about show gear you take what is normal. Even when i fly my same gear goes with me
  24. is he on prednil or any medication, diet change.
