bernym i would say $500 won't cover it. To do the job correctly you will need Clippers Blades(clippers come with a #10 but you will need to purchase a few ,the US dollar is great at present so blades are cheap Correct brush/combs Grooming table will be a must . Even though you say the dog gets sore the longer you leave it between grooms the more toll it takes on the body . Ideally you need to do weekly if wanting to really get on top of the coat or simply just clipped off more often You can also hand scissor the coat back to a good length or use the clip on combs BUT the dog must be knot free ,the more knots the harder the work & the longer it takes

If you want to only drive up saturday i would suggest you be there for 8am. The last show had 5 terriers & about 8 hounds.

But where do you draw the line ? What if they said to you older lady can take her dog but yours has to stay?? Why should her dog been seen as more valuable than mine . There alone you would end up with people going crazy about whose pets deserve to go & stay . Who volunteers to stand there & say yes /no. There will never be the right answer but in many cases people can plan in advance . For instance this year there was a major fire early am ,we & many others offered to help evacuate a dog kennel at around 11am .they said no there fine ,then at 8 pm please can you help.one way road, dark & total madness. Others helped but it was mad much harder by simply not getting the animals out earlier. Many of these places where certainly overwhelmed by the quick water flow but also many have had the chance to be prepared . We run boarding kennels.we have to be prepared & well planned

In many cases people have the option to leave early & many don't take that option & leave it till the last minute. The reality is if the rescue people took animals over humans they would be sued & everyone would be bitching about human life comes first, dammed if you do dammed if you don't but we do need to take added care in being prepared when there is that option. Here with bushfires we have our plan,we leave early,we have our safe spots where dogs can be safely housed if stinking hot . The trailers are packed for such events with spare leads, bowls, water.fold up buckets etc etc. When bad heatwaves hit the trailers are attached & ready to go & the dogs are in lock down just in case. We make sure we do everything possible to help ourselves This is a classic example of why having crate trained animals is a god send . It would be the hardest decision to have to make & not one that i could say yes or no without weighing up the factors at that moment BUT i wouldn't take up rescue resources if human life was still at risk just for my animals because i couldn't live with someone dying just because i insisted the animals went over them. Also reality is not many dogs are helicopter trained to sit safely & if i was to put my 4 big boys on that would equate to 3 adults weight wise

A gift from Perth ,we have had 3 days of 40 plus high 30's & back to 40 by Sunday .

I groom 5 days & week & only use Double K .We still have our original Oster that are nearly 30 yrs old & work fine & never let us done. I have used Andis at friends & hate them, there slow, noisey & leave a crap finish, the wahls for me aren't much better but maybe because i compare them to the Double K finish . Obviously the OP isn't going to buy a double K & to be honest i couldn't recommend a brand that i would do a clip off on as i haven't used a pair for that job for nearly 20 yrs as that is how long we have had our Double K. What i would suggest to the OP is make sure you do the job regular otherwise it will be hard work & very tiring especially as many at home groomers don't buy the quantity of blades that salons will have to get through the job quicker. The main thing is to have a feel of the clippers because what sits well in one person hand doesn't in another

Things must have changed regarding documents because on both airlines i have never read & completed forms except the payee slip/contact details & i fly 1/2 yearly & just returned last month from flying the dogs If you do fly Qantas has weekend restrictions on taking dogs. Virgin don't but they do have number limits qantas does allow more dogs. I have flown both with no issues .

Do You Think It Is Cruel /neglectful
Dogsfevr replied to Baileys mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Well it comes done to defining cruel. I work in the dog industry & to be honest going for a daily walk is the least of many issues. I groom dogs that go walking every day BUT are matted messes/covered in fleas & feral I groom dogs that rarely leave there property who are in wonderful condition. There are people who think the hr daily walk means human time & the other 23 hrs means shut outside never to see a sole. There is no perfect fit except what works for that person & the overall care the dog gets which should cover all aspects. Some peoples idea of a daily walk/socializing is being feral at an offleash park others idea of walking is onlead/controlled . If we where to read posts on DOL quite simply we are all cruel owners in one form or another because we don't do a "certain" something even though those animals may be great ambassadors in the outside world or in fields where being trained correctly means being social -
That isn't what friends who show horses tell me & that applies to my cousin as well.

Lancefield/central Highlands 3 Days, 4 Ch Shows :)
Dogsfevr replied to capanash's topic in General Dog Discussion
Lancefield is always cold I just checked the weather channel & as of 11am Lancefield time it is 8.3 but feels like 4.3 . -
Okay ready to be flamed but the dog is now 11 yrs old. How is it eye sight? Does it have good hearing??? Has it ever worn a muzzle ??? keeping in mind some dogs totally freak when wearing one & at 11 yrs you need to keep in mind the stress it may cause . Your dog simply may not walk with a muzzle on so you will need to introduce it it slowly & see how the dog accepts it.
-
I wouldn't be driving when there is options in summer. Will you take your other dog with you?? I would simply have it flown over & spend the extra time introducing at home. My dogs fly yearly & i have never had an issue.Quick/simply & air conned. I always pick flights appropriate for travelling not not human convience

If doing vegas & you like horse events look out for those they have amazing horse events in vegas plus dog shows

Depends on what breeds you wish to see & the time off year you go I have been to Crufts & wouldn't go again. very hard to watch breed judging as males/females are in sep rings & you need good friends to save front row seats (which we had).Very much a giant royal show with alot of stalls aimed at the public. Westminster in the US is also a benched show & you need to buy tickets. Crufts & Westminster you need to buy group judging tickets . Eukanunba is in december & back to Florida next year & again you need tickets We did all 4 days of Crufts. There are certainly shows in the US that are free & some super cluster shows during the year

Wonderful another owner who feels rules don't apply to them . This is why taking dogs away is getting harder because people break the rules

2 Big Staffies Moving In Next Door
Dogsfevr replied to dreamelicious's topic in General Dog Discussion
Needless to say, I am now terrified of staffies. Not exactly wary i would say. The heading 2 big staffies bit of an over kill & the dogs presumed to be evil before they have even moved in. If these where poodles the OP wouldn't be wanting to have a chat?? -
2 Big Staffies Moving In Next Door
Dogsfevr replied to dreamelicious's topic in General Dog Discussion
Just remember Scotties aren't always angels & give just as good as any Staffy. I have meet many a fiesty Scottie who where willing to do just the same. We board countless Staffies & never had an issue except for the over excitement. I totally agree with pockets If you do go over be careful what you say & imply because to be honest i would be totally *** off if someone came over about my dogs implying due to the breed & incident that mine will be the same or could be . You would then need to be sure your dog doesn't start any fence issues where the table could be turned back to you. You can't presume every staffy is the same & you will come across Staffies in every day life & your body language will rub off onto your dog so you need to be the confident leader your dog needs not create added insecurities If the fence isn't secure then fix it but that shouldn't happen just because there staffies. -
"your Dog Is Not Welcome On This Beach"
Dogsfevr replied to Dxenion's topic in General Dog Discussion
Has it always been horses allowed?? From many newspaper stories & TV items it would seem some horse beaches are becoming just that after dog owners couldn't work in harmony & allowed there dogs to harass the horses . -
So if someone doesnt honour their contract to spay but breed instead would you want to know? No breeder is going to spay an 8 week old GD puppy and you couldnt know if there was an agreement in place or not. If it were mie I would want to know and I would give them a serve to make me feel better but reality is there isnt anything to be done about it and its probably better to let it go. We follow up the with all our puppy owners ,we have an age stated in our paperwork & if we haven't heard back after a set time we follow up. If a breeder is interested they will ring & see where things stand. We have a 100% success rate on all our pups being spayed it isn't hard to keep track of pups & do follow ups. Without knowing what agreements have been made with the breeder you can't very well phone up & give them a mouthful.

My Dog Is Not Agressive Some Advice Please
Dogsfevr replied to A and G's topic in General Dog Discussion
Offleash doesn't mean a free to do what ever.Off leash means an area you can exercise your dog under effective control off leash not to annoy the other people using the area. You allowed your dog to run for these dogs & it would seem without calling her back or having effective control. The owner isn't to now how your dog will react. Big or small makes no difference ,if your happy to allow your dog to " then you need to accept you will be abused or your dog will get some sort of foot/hand action. -
I would say don't bother. The breeder could have spayed prior or had it part of it.s puppy sales. Alll our LR pups must be spayed we have a breed highly sort after by BYB & DD

Looking at the photos she has given the schnauzers owl eyes & trimmed the middle of the beard off Groomers should now better & that takes years to regrow & isn't how the breed should be groomed . If they do it with schnauzers chances are they will do it with an Airedale

Doggy chiro or bowen would be my first port of call especially if he has shown signs prior to soreness, vet will either give more pain meds or want to x ray . My old boy gets stiff necks due to his arthritis. We do warm packs on the sore area & above & it does give relief but we do bowen for any muscle soreness
