  1. We too have been in the position of putting down a number of dogs over the years infact we have had to PTS 16 & only i 3 in there sleep What we have learnt is when we ask ourselves is it time it generally is because it means we are reading the signs the dog is giving & noticing the dramatic changes that are no longer part of "there" life. Like someone else has said consider how often the bad times are over the good because that is what matters the most . I would suggest trying something more bland for her tummy & see how you go. It is never an easy choice & hopefully your vet is one that is supportive. As awful as it sounds if you haven't decided what you plan to do when the time comes maybe consider it now. All ours are cremated ,some people bury ,this is often more stressful than any moment when suddenly having to decide what to do
  2. Qantas & Virgin have different requirements for crates & set sizes . The crate posted couldn;t be used on VIRGIN but can on qantas if it meets the requirements on strength
  3. I understand that. I am waiting a response from my breeder and thought I would just ask since a dogue exhibitor had replied on this thread. My main concern and the topic of this thread was the hernia. I see no need to ask the breeder about that since many people on here can give me different advice and their own personal experience. I also don't really want to sound like a worry wart to my breeder, better to get some of my concerns alleviated first If your breeder is good they would sooner be contacted about your concerns .a good breeder should always be there to listen & explain There is nothing worse as a breeder to find out your the last to be asked about an issue/concern regarding a pup you have breed. Does your breeder show there dogs?? If so you could meet them at a show & they can assit you in the show world & how to train your pup, a good breeder & relationship is worth every cent but your concerns are important to you & should be to them .
  4. Most of the dog folk in Southern River use either Risely vet (applecross) or Deepwood Gosnells. We drive past all the vets in the Canning Vale area to use Risely & will also be adding Deepwood as our second option
  5. Do they breed all those breeds or breed 1/2 & own the others. We breed /show 1 breed but i prefer another breed & own 3 varieties within that breed so we have 4 different breeds here but i don't breed the other 3. In the past we have owned & breed other breeds due to varying preferences in the household & shown them. Having said that i do now breeders who have multi breeds & aren't ethical so doing your research is a must. Most of the people i now have dabbled outside there main breed & are wonderful breeders
  6. Show dog - just out of interest it is common for international judges not to award a challenge for a dog under 12 months? I know you didn't ask me, but I will answer anyway It certainly isn't unusual for judges to give that reason for non-awarding a dog under 12 months. But I have only had it happen to me once or twice and have had other international judges give them the CC. Of course in breeds with more than 1 dog competing it is less common as they just give it to the older dogs I have never had a young dog non awarded BUT do now plenty of judges who have & have given age the reason .I have had an older dog NA but that is a whole topic again . Some countries don't show pups so find it hard to figure out what to do with youngster but they should judge the Aussie way . I don't think this year's judges will be serial NA If I am right in knowing which time you are talking about, wasn't that an interesting day! Same judge is on a panel that is often shared with WA ,me hopes she isn't one of the judges & if she is not doing 3 . Whilst not getting a good reason from her & am happy i caught her out on her attempt to claim she didn't speak english, one needs to remember who they spoke good English too on previous visit especially when we where asked to bring dogs down for her to see specifically & discuss. But i still have my reasons for the whole fiasco of that day
  7. Why would anyone want to "hide" something like that (whether it be a "normal process" of development or not)? It can't be that embarrassing??? Surely this not for show-ring purposes? That's not the purpose of showing ....... . ETA: Using your quote, Showdog, but not directed to you. Asking OP . Erny they have posted in the show section not long ago so i presume it is for there showdog
  8. Also remember the weather in Perth has been extremely hot & enough to knock any animal around. Are you reading a book that you have decided it is a fear stage?? Maybe your routine is too structured & you need to adapt to her needs
  9. Depends on the breed .i could guarantee mine wouldn't give up & would hunt around the house like crazies. It is a risk you will have to take & be prepared to address.

  11. 17 Jan for the show 7 Feb for dog sports
  12. What breed ? what age?? Bum high could be a very normal process of the breed which one doesn't hide, could be hair that needs stripping or the dog may always be bum high which is a fault
  13. A whippet from a good breeder is tough as boots & very happy to be with anyone . Some can certainly be timid BUT the breed shouldn't be,you have some wonderful breeders in your state
  14. In our trailer we always ensure what is at the bottom is as non slip as possible. The made to fit canvas beds are great as already mentioned especially if the dog has an accident on the way or over night & can be easily cleaned & used asap. I guess it comes down to if the dog is destructive but my guys aren't so they have there comfy beds,u shape pillows & the likes
  15. We recommend whippets to alot of people with younger children, wonderful dogs .
  16. I do agree i would wait & make sure you do plenty of quality socializing where you dog learns the on/off switch & manners around dogs of all sizes.(not free for all at the dog parks) Once you have established his nature then you can find a suitable friend that will match his manners & also fit in with having young children also sharing the yard Then you need to decide what the long term living arrangements are. Do you want them to live inside or primarily outside. My GSD was super around small dogs BUT he was taught how to act & was a gentle giant BUT he also had that very laid back nature that suited .I don't believe every GSD is this way inclined so finding the right mate to make it enjoyable is a slow process but well worth it. Attached is a photo of my great man (RIP) Should add he was from total german lines all schutzhand titled
  17. Pup could well have been antural bob tail or had the tail done due to injury at birth which is legal
  18. He perfomed like a pro out there. Nice to see setters represent Atleast in the wind no one could see the crap grooming.been a not to plan week with mum in hospital with kidney stones & a full house of boarders & ensuring all the oldies get the special care in the heat. They both got a head/neck & throat trim & the rest was Atleast they have a few weeks off to be spruced up
  19. Well i did way better than i expected ,ruig & inter in show with the wild child . My record under both judges isn't great so an added bonus to a night i had planned to be home early for LOL
  20. Well most Aussie love Frisbee work so maybe "Frisbee" kennels.
  21. Yes I agree - but most of the judges dont. Oh well - their choice. I will still wear my hat, its well fitted and doesnt come off in any weather. Thanks everyone for the replies though. many judges don't wear hats as it can freak many dogs . Mine don't care but i have seen dogs freak by judges who wear hats totally inappropriate for judging. Sunscreen works wonders The very small visors are hardly noticeable especially colour co ordinated
  22. Its an old topic but the reality is your in the ring for such a short time frame that wearing a hat isn't going to make alot of difference & most of us wear good sunscreen & then have good shade facilities to sit in once out of the ring Often i am the only one of my breed so at max may be in the ring for 2 mins if lucky . I have seen some wear hats & have also seen these people spend more time trying to hold the hat down or re adjust that in the small time frame you have to show your dog all you remember is the hat fiddling especially when its windy
  23. I wouldn't be showing her if she was mine, every time the dog see's the ring rope she has trained herself to sulk . By what you have posted she has done this since 3 months so this routine has been going on for 5 months. I would be giving her a break . I never show train my dogs ,they are taught to walk, free bating is taught in fun & stacking is all about touch time . Yes you will have a powerful dog but as a breed they tend to be dull & deary , i would be looking at obedience classes where she can interact with dogs & have fun with no ring ropes What you need to remember is your dog will now the show routine from the day before & she will set herself in that mood from there. My first port of call would be a doggy chiro/bowen to ensure she isn't sore (even if she seems normal) I also agree that many people over train & take the fun out of showing
  24. because it doesn't look good & honestly not required for the short time in the ring . Some do get classy small peak hats made to suit there outfits & they give some shade & a good view of the judges signals with some eye contact . Many that do wear hats do so as its there signature "look" I rarely wear sunglasses either unless the sun is so bad & it is setting right in the wrong place. Also consider hats can be a hassle when running & be prepared that some dogs will freak
