  1. in my experience all kennels have an idea of what they will do . I also now where i live which is a kennel zone (we ourselves run kennels) we have a list of people who can help in called upon & the community here on a number of occasions have banded together to help during fires & evacuations. One call & the dog world are special people Many kennels also pay an important part during major events in also taking dogs in where people have to evacuate. We have over the years taken a number of dogs in the wee hrs as there owners have had to flee fires. We ourselves every summer have the dog floats ready to go with crates, water bowls, water containers.leads, cool mates etc etc ready packed to just load & go. Our firs port of call is our dog grounds as we have a massive under cover area so if extremely hot they are shaded plus this is the "normal" emergency area in the dog world so everyone with spare crates & helpers head straight there, after that we have 2 shopping centres,2 schools plus option in other kennel areas (5/10 mins apart). We have helped with 3 fire evacuates & been on alert for 1. Fire for us is the main issue We had major storms lst year & lost power for 3 days but that was easy to deal with . Our kennels are also very "bad weather" friendly which makes a massive difference
  2. I would sugeest you be honest & tell them the good & bad . I grew up playing many sports 1 at state level, our coaches never sugar coated what we would encounter because "that was the truth". We didn't want to hear all nice & flowery & realize what a load of rubbish that was when we competed . Obviously it can be done with some tact but don't beat around the bush, they have experienced one group of bad apples so take them to the good ones. I travel east & have never had issues with people sure some are full of there own self importance & like what they like but i feel comfy around those people because there honest We all bitch & whinge so everyone is guilty some just do it with more punch. Infact i have been hurt more by new exhibitors who expected the world revolved around them & nothing you did was good enough or are full of opinions with out knowing what there talking about . Personally though when i read things that go on on DOL i actually sometimes wonder what is fact/fiction(yes flame suit on ) Because i have shown for many years at a very competitive level, yes i have seen a small amount of stupid behaviour but all in all coming from a competitive person who competes to win & most likely has an arrow on my head i haven't encountered anything that i don't deem reasonable in a competitive world & in fact deal with worse beahviour from clients . I have shown in 4 states of Australia at the biggest shows around & yes did some fine winning over well known camps & yes i now those people where disappointed to lose because we all feel that but i was always treated with the uptmost respect .
  3. My dogs go every 4/6 weeks & have done so for over 4 years, My oldest would not be able to walk without it. The person i use is very experienced but also has a good eye for animals as well plus i am very on the ball with issues i see & get them attended to or discuss those concerns with the person i use
  4. I think you will find her dogs don't travel in it either but in the van . That trailer use to be white . I agree just keep it white & pin stripes of get fancy sigh writing /dog painted on
  5. Besides blade maintenance you should also keep on hand spare tongues for the clipper head, most people blame the blade when they don't cut but if the tongue is warn out then the blade doesn't sit right
  6. I have my Canine journal & lets say there is nothing special in there
  7. I groom full time & have never needed to oil during a clip. 1 blade used on a clean coat shouldn't need to be sharpen for well over a year unless something is odd with it. Water is certainly a big no no as you will rust the blade. The price you paid is alot of money & with the US dollar the way it is the blade prices should be much cheaper at present. depends where you brought it from but most small places that sell blades will charge way more than places like Clipper world or similiar where there business is clippers/blades & the likes. You can order on the net & get them sent to you http://www.clipperworld.com.au/shop/index....at&catId=10 you will see the price difference above
  8. You cant get it in Oz as AQIS wont approve it to enter the country so you will have to try the Maxi. it is available in Australia
  9. Have you googled diet options for DM?? There is some interesting reading out there & many seem to recommend a Tofu style diet . One of the other interesting things was they said if the dog is on certain heartworm meds to take them off due to the issues it can cause with this condition
  10. I am sure most of the WA people are aware but we have no public holiday during our Royal Show this year as the Queens birthday holiday has been shifted to the 28 October to coincide with the Government of heads thing during that week
  11. We have a big doggy door ,no burglar has ever climbed through but it has been handy for us . Ours is cut into the sliding door in the laundry done through westral
  12. Did you not ask how they feed 2 strange dogs sharing a kennel?? Did there kennel look like one could be shut in & one out when being feed?? As a kennel owner i have to say the "peak period" double is really bad form but seems to be the in thing over east . Did she lose weight whilst in boarding?? Could she have been bullied whist eating by the other dog ,if she has bad back pain the other dog may have been to much for her & she is slowly getting over it. Did they feed the same variety of Tucketime that you do or a different one
  13. Also bad tonsils can make a dog lethargic & lack of appetite
  14. As far as im aware non of the Bichon breeders that pay to advertise on the dogs west site show there dogs. Ther is only a small handful that do. Rick & Kathryn Berwick Dupunche Mrs Morgan caranmor Ann LEPOMPADOUR (bunbury) Denise Carleton fyrail ( i think she still breeds them ) Sandy Pa;;eir (forgotten her kennel name) Not all show regulary either living country, being older ,having young kids but the above is the main group of breeders who show & breed . As mentioned the Kennel zone is a designated area where by law we can have more than 2 dogs.not everyone runs kennels they live out here because of the extra dog limits(our neighbours have no dogs) As for the breeder not rep[lying promptly i don't see a big deal especially if they have already acknowledged you in other replies. People need to appreciate that being a dog breeder doesn't equate to an email business & most dog people still have full time jobs, children & other things to do. If you find phoning gets you a better response then just phone . We always try & reply promptly but sometimes the questions asked in emails are the type that requie alot of back n forth & often you have to keep going back to check what has been said. The main thing you need to find out is if they health test there stock
  15. So agree with this. Scissors vary so much in weight /comfort . depends if you after bent shank/normal etc etc the list goes . Even the breed can play a factor in which brands sometimes work better for
  16. Greyhounds doesn't mean there cat Killers there no different to any other breed ,they either adapt to cats or they don't. The biggest issue with no fencing or a safe area for a grey is there not "big" walkers,Greys do zoomies in short spurts & then vege out. They don't get the same exercise onlead . I have owned 8 Greys & thinks there one of the most special breeds around but just not for everyone. Greys love the couch, they are home bodies but do enjoy there 2/10 min madness & ideally this area needs to be debris free as they will slice themselves open easily .
  17. it would be an outside dog, but kennel is very close to house. Then scrape Mini Schnauzer off your list
  18. Want to elaborate?? Springers have a variety of Colours. Welsh don't. Both have different head shapes,Welsh are longer in back lower on leg. Welsh are more laid back /quieter/softer Springers are more "out there " Springer have long ear feathering Welsh don't. http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/commun...ger-spaniel.asp http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/commun...ger-spaniel.asp
  19. We breed Mini Schnauzers but those breeds vary greatly in size/needs & personalities so what exactly are you after
  20. If he wants a duck hunter he will have a more Working nature which can mean more highly strung . Head to the brittany thread & i am sure they will help
