  1. Over 30 of the stafford litters listed on DOL are blues & with a quick glance prices for these colours range from $800 to $3000. Not very rare
  2. We have breeders asking $2500 for a set colour. We groom many of these pups & to be frank the people have been ripped off. If people wish to ask more for a set colour then i would expect that breeding to produce the correct colour & not one that fads with age as the breeding is a mix match of colours. We don't charge more for sex or colour
  3. Make sure it is a tall & strong puppy pen as Std Schnauzers are amazing jumpers even as pups.
  4. If it diabetes & not gotten on top off they can go blind very quickly. If its pyo & not treated you may end up with a spayed bitch . I would sooner do the vet & any testing they may think important & have a head start on results than wait longer. She may simply have a mild infection but if your planning to breed her then you need to address any issues . We have never had a bitch do this .
  5. I wouldn't be doing any big KM until the dog has actually been brought up to a fitness level to be able to do it You then need to consider how fast you go the terrain you are doing regarding the dogs feet etc etc. How often you plan to stop, weather The dog will need to be conditioned to last no different than us humans .
  6. Thats quite the norm here ,really is scary . Looks like a mini Bouvier
  7. average price we see with client cards around $100 heartguard approx $ 150 plus consult of approx $ 50/6o
  8. Does your property have a name ?? Street name/suburb,many have used those.
  9. But we now that will never happen in any part of life.
  10. I find it odd you say learning shouldn't be about the breeds??So as a teacher what do you actually teach them then??
  11. We had 1 boarder due to leave tonight but they live on Brooktyn h 'way when we found them they where in tears so not sure what they situation is as they where away We have just over 10 dogs so far due to the fires maybe more latter.
  12. There is a fire now in kelmscott/Roleystone. Brooktyn H'way & Old Coach Place is the area No where near us but the smoke is awful so all the dogs & boarders are in lock down here
  13. There actually quite a few dog people who have evacuated so hopefully all have something to return home too . An awful day for a fire
  14. It makes me cry too. Single eye brows, skirts like Westies gone wrong, no blending, beards gone or beards that cover most of the face. I'm always wanting to learn more and improve how I do them. I make the most of the local breeders and exhibitors and what they can teach. I speak on a regular basis with another groomer ( different location ) who is seeing them come through her doors, having been groomed in a similar way to what I see. TAFE is the common link there. Here its more like Scotties gone wrong, then add owl eyes & the bridge of the nose trimmed off The beard is the slowest growing part of a Schnauzer & it takes year to regrow . Although for me there is no real excuse for bad trimming with so many good books & internet options out there plus of course the groomer simply being honest & saying i don't now how to groom them then butcher them but these same people simply don't have an eye for how they should turn out nor seem to question there tafe teachers as to way they groom them to look like that when all the books/breeders don't. As a breeder of schnauzers we redo alot of botched jobs & the owners just don't understand how many years it will take to fix. The other issue i see is owners who say what they want but that isn't what they want. We always question the owners & some get shitty with us when we do it BUT in the end the people realize what they are asking for isn't what they want . Many will drop off & say short all over /i want it all off & if not questioned that is what you would get & this is what many do get but blame the previous groomer for the hair cut because they have asked us to do the same but we queried it
  15. The tafe course is a laugh.I actually was going to do it to get the certificate many years ago but no way would i pay the $1000 plus have to re buy all the equipment i already own & be taught by someone who had no skills at all. In fact i could have taught the class & they learnt more. The problem is people bring there dogs full of mats because they don't brush them either because they can't be bothered or the dog bites them & they presume the groomer will train there dog in 2 hrs & it doesn't happen. Most dog come when there too old & in a state that means there first experience will not be pleasant.Brushing knots out or evening clipping them off hurts. Breeds like Maltese are the worst as there skin is so sensitive & they have no tolerance for knot removal but brushed correctly knots shouldn't appear in the first place . I have never been bitten due to good management but have certainly groomed some dogs that bring tears to your eyes & dropped off by owners who don't seem to have any idea about how hard it is to groom an untrained, matted animal . . Many groomers don't last long because of the wear & tear on your body . For many the training they get didn't reveal what the true grooming world is like & that it isn't easy it is very hard/tiring work As for the way people are taught to Schnauzer it makes us cry It is truly one of the most unthankless jobs around .
  16. You will find all kennels hold the dog for a short spell. It isn't the kennels responsibility to hold the dog forever. The reality is kennels are a dumping ground for unwanted pets & many have been left with dogs. We ourselves hung on to a dogs for a number of months with no owner returning . There is a time for those leaving dogs to also take precautions & also ensure you dates are correct. We get many people who head overseas stuff up there return dates & we end up with holding a dog for 2/3 days because they don't read there iternary right ,we also get those who decide to extend there holiday & we are suppose to now this. We also get people who don't always have a complete return date but they are made aware they must keep in contact so we now what is happening( hospital ,house work, fencing down etc etc). Make sure you have realiable contacts & make sure these people actually now there your contacts & actually willing to assist if phoned. Turn your phone if you leave your number . Kennels are very accommodating but owners need to help the cause & if there is a chance you could be held up then contact them. Most kennels have dealt with people stuck or having to return early. We have a client who phoned from Egypt to let us now there coming home a month early. We had 10 dogs last year with owners stuck in London due to the volcanoes ,all phoned. We have had some stuck in QLD this year . We had 3 dogs with owners stuck in NY last year due to the airbus. I myself was stuck 2 extra days east due to the NSW storms affecting my flight out of Victoria, there where over 900 qantas people also affected plus the other airlines so whilst mine wasn't planned it happened. We get people who refuse to bring there full meds bottle for there dogs & count out the pills needed per day & i have lost count how many times we have had to get emergency supplies because owners seem to think we will pinch there supplies(yep there charged for the stuffing around,we have had 2 diabetic dogs that ran out of insulin due to the issues last year. It happens more than people think but the kennels would still have to send info to the last known address & show attempts where made to locate the owner & check. As for a liability/responsibility sheet we also have one of those as should any kennel to now where you stand .
  17. What exactly have you been feeding including all treats . What exactly does your dog do that the vet feels its allergies??
  18. Do you not have a copy of the contract you entered, the liabilities of being a career, who pays what expenses if an accident happens?? And what business works by text message
  19. Well for starters i wouldn't rush to get a pup just because it suits now,you may end up with a pup that simply isn't suitable at all. Pups travel well but if you want a pup quickly then you need to build a good trust if buying from east . You wiil be buying site unseen so you need to trust the person is sending you what you are expecting. Have you not tried the WA Malt breeders Kym Prendergast has some stunning Malts . We have Havanese breeders in WA too. The Havanese is no bigger than a Lhaso even a Shihtzu could be comparable in this size range. Grooming depends if you want a full coat or clip off but keep in mind that will cost around $50/60 . I have to agree & say the fist breed i thought off was a Papillion as well.
  20. Is this pup going to be shown or you are going to hand strip?? Did your breeder give you any charts that help you understand the stripping process & the stages to go through?? Yes you can over strip but it wont ruin the coat but you will stuff up that stage & will have to wait for it to grow. At present you are just working/rolling the coat ,if your lucky you can do this for awhile otherwise your pup will hit the stage of needing to be stripped back fully & normally in sections as certain areas grow faster so you strip to ensure the length all over works & blends. If it is a show dog then you need to understand the dogs faults & qualities so you can hide/enhance. If its a pet the same still applies but the mistakes wont be such a drastic issue. Not sure how your breeder does the rubber thumb but we cut the end out & use our fingers to pull. We also use strippers like Mikki & Classic plus the slick n easy stone which is super. The one thing you will learn quickly is technique, stripping is a killer on your joints/muscles & done wrong it will hurt ,done right it shouldn't but long term it is known to affect many with arthritis
  21. Hope you like Drool & lots of it all over the furniture, walls & of course humans Great dogs ,heavy buggers though
