Why Enter A Young Dog In State Bred, aussie Bred Or Open
Dogsfevr replied to scolly's topic in General Dog Discussion
WA has State bred as well -
Biggest pitfall of the GSP extremely needy & clingy, very much velcro dogs that can drive you insane. A Lab is a walk in the park in comparison .The puppy stage is no different than most breeds but it adulthood that GSP can be a handful if not taught independence & the rules .I now the rules part applies to all dogs but GSP seem to be more comfy in knowing the rules, expectations than say other breeds. The do look great but certainly there a breed for those who truly appreciate there pitfalls & work hard as youngsters to educate them well

We get phone calls every day from People who have brought a male & want a female on main because they might breed . Of these calls 99% don't want to breed for the right reason . Most when phoning have no idea the breeder/s they are phoning have lines that are totally not compatible & won't produce pups for the betterment. So my first question would be in relation to the breed standard what are your boys good points ?? What are his faults? What are the main area's of improvement you need to be careful off when using him at stud ?? As a breeder what are you plans ??? All these questions are what breeders want to know. "well yes providing the dogs are good temp and pass all health checks but i can't say that is what i will do cause it depends on so much" This is where you need to now faults as well whether it be mouth, coat texture, movement, pigmentation & the list goes on .good temp & health check still doesn't mean breedable. Have you had the breeder of your boy assess him as to how he is progressing so you can understand more about him or maybe consider showing him to get your feet into the world many of us breeders are If the dog is health checked and registered. Follows the standard what does lines matter? This is of upmost importance & to be honest if you don't understand why then your not ready to consider breeding .Lines play a major part in breeding Any one can put A to B & produce pups but there prefixs are attached to those pups so breeders are very grateful who they sell main pups to. Sadly many of us are battling the Backyard breeders & i am not saying you are but look at it from the other side when enquiring

We had a caught finger incident.lets just say good job the swearing police weren't there Always pack band aids in the bag

I borrowed a friends on the weekend & it was the most horrid thing to put up,at one stage it took 4 of us to get somewhere , A 2 person job & i saw others struggling as well to get them up. The arre great quality & strong & easy to get down its just getting them up because you have to pull the clip in each leg

4 months for most groomed breeds is way to long. Schnauzers need to be done every 6/8 weeks ,leaving longer will end up costing more plus the breed has eye brows which once long can't see.
-
Of the spaniel breeds i would say the Welsh Springer is more similiar to a cavie & not as busy as the springer /Brittany.

I was hoping to buy this range last weekend whilst in Melbourne but there wasn't any there .will buy some in October & i plan to try it ,have heard good things & seen some dogs groomed in the product here that look fab

If its falling out in clumps then just keep pulling it,you don't need a professional for a JR coat, the key is you need to work on it weekly to maintain the nice coat otherwise it will just go feral & become more over run by under coat. Did the breeder not show you how to do it or what tools to use?? Racking/stripping a JR coat isn't that time consuming so a good groomer shouldn't have any issues doing it its other breeds that require sections done over a few weeks that often won't do . A JR coat ready to blow can be done in an hour . I wouldn't clip the coat unless you have no plans to do any basic coat work yourself

Many pet people do see dog shows as a social interaction, you see it all the time, they wonder over to your crates so Fifi can interact or walk over when the breed is getting ready. We encourage people to attend shows but without dogs because they are going to ask questions & see the breeds which is impossible with a dog in tow. Some shows are so busy that space is very small & there just isn't the extra space for pet people to simply mingle with there dog I do now many breeders will arrange to see a dog & that i have no issues with as generally they dog is seen by the people & care taken but taking a dog to view/watch ringside is very hard . I too take older dogs done or pups to socialize that aren't entered but they also sit in my set up . As for saying no due to no vaccination many show folk never vaccinate so that isn't a reason . I just feel there is a time & a place for dogs at shows & taking your pet isn't always an easy option giving the set up ,space restrictions & the fact it isn't the same as a dog park . Yes many walk them on flexi leads & just don't get it that it isn't a social day out & when told politely they often get shitty . As a side note our show grey was bitten by a visiting pet dog (bulldog as well) & they had no control & they dog was so over stimulated with all the dogs there . Many pet dogs just find it hard to deal with the show set up as well

Questions About Professional Groomers?
Dogsfevr replied to PoppyDog's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Cavaliers are very vocal in any system with a cry/whine/talk bark.We groom alot of pure cavies that do this & nearly all the Cavie crosses have this trait. If it was the above style cry i wouldn't be concerned at all. If you didn't ask for a specific trim then what was done is "normal cavie" what you want is not normal but often asked by people so you need to remind them BUT the salon should also have asked what you wanted ,we ask every groom "do you want the same " -
There where a few field mice running about.one also dared to enter the gundog area, i think a Pointer disposed of it. There was one running about the hound ring when we where helping the committee pack up sunday

Well i had a lovely weekend in Melbourne collecting Zinger. We won group 4 at the big show under an American gundog specialist ,so a nice way to finish his holiday there .

I saw you too, very hard to interact inside especially when my boy kept meeting friends who he wanted to play with & not enough space to have space with the big guys.

Vets/nurses Name Of Powder When Quick Cut
Dogsfevr replied to emery's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
we use Ferric Chloride & never cut nails at shows just asking for trouble -
dogs will bloat whether feed dry or not. Many also believe over soaking biscuits increases the rate it ferments which isn't good for the gut I have breeds predisposed to bloat i feed on raised stands & always will, they eat calmer & more comfy I feed dry never soaked plus raw etc etc. Never had an issue . If you believe every study done you would never own a large breed due to the varying stories some i think are scare mongering & create danger to owners who become very confused Common sense works the best

The breeder should show you how to brush your dog correctly & what tools to use.We actually supply the slicker & comb with our pups . The other key is selecting a place to brush either bench/table with a non slip mat/surface

I have no issue with judges if need be justifying why but i see no point just to suit those with sour grapes . Who do they justify it too? Who decides if there reason is good enough?? What is the outcome if people don't agree ?? What time limit is given for the judge to explain ?? When it gets out of hand who steps in ??? Would it appease those people who bitch no matter what even if they still lose, because if they can't see the merits in good dogs then its not up to the judge to be questioned maybe they should be ?? you highlight INDEPENDENT but i am sure if they agree with the same "Face" winning because the dog is actually good they will be called names as well. Klink are you a judge ???
