  1. What are they like when you brush them. Minis are super smart dogs & learn very quickly so never to late to retrain them . First rule don't feel guilty ,spoiling them doesn't achieve anything as you have found out. When you say spoil what do you mean ?? What exactly do they get away with ?? Minis are normally very easy dogs to live with I have to ask are they black or Black/silver ??
  2. The schnauzer exhibitors had a vote on where they belong. Those with 2 or 3 of the sizes didn't want them split as it was in the "too hard" basket. Most of us Mini exhibitors did vote to be moved to the Terrier ring because in the scheme of things we fit in better size wise & to be honest being in a group with stripped coats meant we had judges more offay with correct coats . The Std & Giant where if voted to go to the working group. I would have been happy with Minis in the terrier grp As far as yanks go some UK folk wanted them shifted to the toy ring ,good knows why they are very much a working spaniel .
  3. We had no luck with Kenwick ,Applecross we still use if after hrs are required but they aren;t our main vet either ,To many staff changes happening there . We love our main vet & will aslo try another clinic at some stge just to have options if caught out & both have excellent pricing & common sense approach
  4. I wouldn't DNA test without being 100% the results will come back in your favour The dog looks RR cross so just register as such, I would guarantee if that dog was found vets/pounds & the likes would all say RR cross
  5. been there done that & now stick to two grps although one breed is my mums. For many years had 2/3 breeds & if they didn't clash for breed they would clash for group. Depending on what breed you are thinking off maybe the kids start using them in juniors & then see how they go or like.
  6. There are plenty who post on DOL about rules not applying to them regarding leash laws & control & sneaking into rooms/shops & the likes so why would any other rule be followed. Many dog owners are there worst enemy,we wouldn't need any rules if people used common sense & simple respect
  7. Didn't the breeder discuss how to maintain the coat or show you what tools?? 16 weeks isn't to young to be working on the coat
  8. we don't have enough breeds to make any split successful People whinge now that it is too easy, split the groups & you will have groups with a handful of dogs . The system works well for Australia with the brreds we have
  9. I would look at other things you can do. I am not sure if you already have a baby but if you don't at home you can still do special things with Sasha. You can practise pushing pram with dog We have encouraged our puppy owners who have bub coming along in adulthood to buy a pretend baby & even practice sitting in chair feeding/cuddling & teaching dog all about these new things
  10. I also like the Pointing Griffon, some coat but nothing massive
  11. Ingrid Maschtke from SA also took photos at Sydney working with Fiona
  12. If there buying in England then there is a world of dogs that don't exist here. At Crufts a breed often used in the Junior Handler finals is the Norweign Buhund ,the kids only get an hr to meet the dog or 10 mins if a swap dog & they always go like troopers & look good. You have your field spaniel ,great Welsh springer breeders in the UK. You have the Blue picardy or French Spaniel (easy coat ) Swedish Valhund could also suit
  13. I have feed Proplan for over 15 yrs but only the salmon the other varieties haven't worked well for me & yes coat loss on the maintence & that was with another breed when used 20 yrs ago Most of us here won't feed science diet due to the very high wheat factor .for me its the worst of the worst Every product has its pros/cons. I have had no issues with the change
  14. My suggestion would be to try and attend the Dachshund club champ show There is one on 25 August at Erskine Park and the Novocastrian Dachshund club have there's on 10 sept at Hillsborough
  15. The smooth come in Choc/Tan Mini longs in choc dapple. In Perth there is a breeder who breeds the dapples. You don't see many mini smooths in Choc/tan. Try contacting the Dachshund Club of NSW
  16. Personally i would avoid the dog park, that is one high risk area that is worth it.I dare say at some point put will have to be put on the ground because it will wiggle with excitement & be hard to hold & may need to toilet. If you live close to the canine i would sooner take them done the back & walk together Remember though you could be bringing parvo home on your shoes etc etc . We take risks with ours because they need to get out but some areas are just not worth it for a sake of a few weeks
  17. Is the GSD an outside only dog or will both dogs share the same routine during the day(inside)out)?? Our Greys get on like a house on fire with any of our other dogs but generally they self exercised doing zoomies in the backyard & then veged out on the lounge the rest of the time.
  18. Gundog Club Show will now have a sausage sizzle The Sheltie Club have taken on the task to cater for the day
  19. We like most breeders still attend dog shows, walk our adult dogs in fact life goes on as normal.Pup interact with our adults after they came home from the shows & never had an issue they need to be exposed to some germs Personally we wouldn't do it because its easier for them,we have certainly ran on pups where there was no other option but this isn't one of those cases. If you decide to head down this path consider some options. Will they want to visit?? What are there expectations of you in the training department ? Do you think they may pull out last minute if there that worried? What if there vet says its not fully covered until after the optional 16/18 weeks booster? I gather your dogs aren't sitting in the house to suit there concerns so have you informed them that your dogs will still be going out & about
  20. My mum caught 2 kids at our show grounds lightening a fire next to cars & trailers.
  21. fergie if red head theme but i prefer to base on character
  22. Schnauzers are pigs & will eat till it kills them, It seems there was circumstances that could have caused the reaction & in hindsight better management but given the fact you have many young kids around seeking help would be a good start so all family members (including hubby )are aware. Purdie as far as chairs & beds rubbish my dogs have slept on the bed & slept on the couches for far to many years & never an issue . Never done the eating before hand as in my view it means bugger all to the dog. My guys are showdogs handled by strangers on occasions & young children . Dogs are no different to us & can have there moments it deosn't always equate to all hell breaking loss. Given how our minis sit looking at food it could be very likely the youngster did startle the dog even though no one thinks so
  23. Obviously the parents had no clue what there child was doing . Very scary to many kids running about at shows these days without parental control . Feel for the driver something no one wishes to experience
  24. So was the dog playing with the boys like you say & then after timeout snapped ?? Could the dog in all reality had enough of the children & you didn't see the signs ?? Minis shouldn't be possessive BUT we cant stress to our puppy owners the importance of making a Mini known you are approaching due to there eyebrows .Is the minis eye brows over grown?? Did the little one appear within its vision or out of vision & startle ?? I agree helped should be sort if you are unsure
