What are your plans after 4/5 years when you move out?? I would consider this option more than the ease of living at home at present. If you have to move away with work will the dog go with you? Will you be looking at living in a house or apartment style down the track ? These things will also help to decide what dog may fit in better plus able to cope from being at home with company dog to no one home at all maybe?? Do you want something that sheds?? Do you want a breed that will need regular brushing or regular trips to the grooming salon??(trips to the salon will be $60 plus depending on the breed & many will need 4 plus trips ) I ask because we board/groom alot of dogs that the parents have suddenly taken on because there children have finished uni got jobs & are unable to take the dog with them or found it to hard to get rental for there big dog or suitable flat mates. Out little dogs alert us more to strangers than our big dogs,the big ones just look more intimidating . The best choice is the dog you can control & handle easily when out in public & one you wish to happily live with for the next 12/14 years. Mason one thing you need to consider in the training aspect is you need to teach the dog the difference between sitting for food & standing in the show ring for food. Generally people who train automatic sits end up with a pup that sits in the show ring . At this age with our show dogs food is all about standing & doing a great free stack ,once they understand the stand we have introduced the sit . You can certainly train both as puppies but you will need to put the added time in to ensure pup understands both & it can be very hard to unteach the auto sit before a good stand Training the pup to be calm for food in the ring is just the same

when i brush her its a battle, we're still practicing that, she tries to bite the brush thinking its a game. She is old enough to no better with grooming . Not sure where you groom her or what you use but its time to start addressing the rules of brushing,she isn;t biting the brush because she thinks its a game,she is applying her rules . Some brushes can hurt so the dogs may try to bite Brush her on a bench with non slip mat ,place in a stand postion & brush/comb don't piss fart about the rules must be plain & simple,you don't need to bribe.

For staters are you positive she was biting & not over excited & kissing. Our friends breed poms & what you describe is typical greeting behaviour by there Poms,they almost groom your face. For starters being the boss means mutual respect . You need to ensure your actions aren't confusing . It sounds like she was doing excited zoomies & just over stimukated by the day. When you all came home how did you greet the dog?? Did you just walk in & do nothing or did everyone do the cute pup sorry we left you all day reaction. I have to ask when you brush her how does she behave?? When you take her walking how does she behave?? Poms are like wind up toys if they don;t get to be a dog so what sort of mental stimulation & out door activities does she get ??

You can't tell clients how there dog will be handled when most clients don't tell the truth to start off with . Generally the matted dogs area warning sign of no training although often these dogs end up so grateful for getting shaved they stand there . As for sedating no way ,that should be done under vet supervision with a vet check prior too & lavendergirl if you feel this is a best option then sorry you have no clue,sedated dogs are often far worse as they panic on the table due to being wobbly & experiencing things in an unknown state & yes as already mentioned temp control & the likes plays an important part . We have sent people to the vet to have there dogs groomed as they where so dangerous we wouldn't refer them to any groomer no one deserves to have there body abused by a feral dog or be placed in such danger that they become injured & unable to work & yes these people never warned us prior too . We don't use the noose or frame never have You also get the serial clients who go to every groomer & never be happy because they expect miracles to happen to there ungroomed,matted mess or untrained dog but most groomers talk amongst themselves & pass on names of such clients . We are lucky & have a wonderful clientele with great dogs,the occasional monster & they nearly all book 12 months in advance. I feel for many groomers who will now start getting the winter mess & the owners who abuse you as the weather warms up because there dog needs doing now ,they presume its such a simple task to clip off & forget that sometimes you can't tell what is skin,matt ^ the likes .

I know that there can be a difference in personality after castrating or speying a dog but isn't it supposed to make them quiet and lazy not turn them in to little rat bags No it shouldn't make them lazy or quiet that is what people presume & is very wrong,sounds like a normal dog

You can walk easily i did so in May about 10 mins .foot path etc etc. Go to bottom floor & turn left & walk straight ahead

You need to show the best for the dog. If its pacing the yard then yes it sounds like a habit forming. This is when you need to break his rule of thought & be prepared with either food,toy or tug the lead.if need be bend down & tap his bum anything that breaks his train of thought & mot be so comfy in his gait I see people every weekend running around the ring with no idea there dogs are pacing & often the judge may make a comment & ask for the handler to try again but often the dog does it again so the judges give up. A good ring to watch is giant breeds like Newfoundlands ,you will often see there handlers bump them off balance as they run off. The circle can be very successful PROVIDING you keep the momentum going but its often better to do the unexpected tactic & do something different. A bored dog can also be a chronic pacer so also consider how fun you make it
