  1. When i emailed i was told we will be in the first available ring ,I wasn.t sure if they where using 2 rings or 3 so emailed to figure out my plans So basically potluck
  2. yes you can enter the sweeps which will be in early . Then you will have to wait for the other 3 groups to be judged before non sporting. You will then show in breed ,if you are a winner of either age class of breed or Best of breed you will compete for the Non sporting specials either for age class or best in group if you win either then you compete in general specials
  3. yes grp 6 is split ,there reason not enough benching which may have been the case many moons ago but not anymore The first sat & wed i think
  4. When the system of placing group 1 to 4 like melb, sydney .Adelaide royal uses & other big shows BIG 1,2,3,4 The judge shortlists & then places Um i think you will find that is a very old saying in the show world "thrown out with the rubbish" plus many other sayings used It isn;t about toughening up but being realistic if the judge doesn;t like your dog there is no big deal. I mean what is the difference then when the judge shortlists to the middle of the ring whilst everyone else stands there ?? Either way people will see but seriously if that is a worry then maybe you are taking it to seriously . I have had my Multi BISS/BIS winner non awarded walked out with a smile & thought yep interesting & off i went. Shit happens but you have to chill out otherwise it ain;t fun & the dog will feel the pressure on the lead
  5. The only time i think short lsiting isn;t worth it is when the judges obviously can't remember when it comes to the class in grps, I can appreciate in some class other breeds may have been stronger than the short list but the number of times i have seen a dog shortlisted only to lose to a BOB not shortlisted is countless I to would prefer to be sent out than stand around & rarely have we been made to stay if the weather is bad
  6. as a kid i use to take our Mini Schnauzer everywhere on the bike. We had one of thos plastic strong cube boxes attached to a good quality rack on the back & no issues with weight, she loved it
  7. buy a muzzle ,the reason it takes so long is because you are addessing the mouthing . It wont stress him anymore but make the job safer for you & get it done quicker/ What type of nail trimmers do you use(some are awful on the nails),how do you trim(lying down/like shoeing a horse ?/)Does someone help or are you buy yourself? How often do you trim the nails?? It is often easier after a bath as the nails are soft If you have someone to help hold it will make life easier but at present he is playng the game, some dogs hate it & will never change but the quicker you can get it done the easier. If trimming by yourself then get him in a corner & press him against the wall lift foot & trim. You could also try using a bastard file & filing them which many dogs prefer . If you can get someone to help then that would be the best option as the loner you leave trimming them the longer the blood vessel grows
  8. It isn't that simple & there are some premium foods i would nnever dream to feed . Not all premium is suited to all breeds so you need to now what breeds have what issues to find the right one & that may also mean non premium for which there are plenty of good options, We hand out diet sheets with our puppies & as an example 1 puppy owner changed the diet due to info handed to them ,pup looks like crap due to the change & now the owners have gone back to our diet after we where horrfied at the change in the dog I would suggest treading carefully in this aspect
  9. The vet is a nob them ,dogs under 30 kg can & do bloat. May not be as common but it certainly does happen. Scary advice from a vet given that Bassett hounds are one of the worse bloat breeds & certainly don't weight that much, even my own breed can come in under 30 kg & is high on the list for bloating
  10. Better to be a false alarm than leave it too long to have no chance
  11. yes i do now of whippets that have bloated . He needs to go to the vet not wait. Bloat symptons isn't something you play wait & see with
  12. Maybe also consider PBGV Pettit Basset Griffon Veenden If you like Bassetts & your dad likes Corgis & this could be a good in between ,hair but not hairy loves life ,goes for walks
  13. What are your plans after 4/5 years when you move out?? I would consider this option more than the ease of living at home at present. If you have to move away with work will the dog go with you? Will you be looking at living in a house or apartment style down the track ? These things will also help to decide what dog may fit in better plus able to cope from being at home with company dog to no one home at all maybe?? Do you want something that sheds?? Do you want a breed that will need regular brushing or regular trips to the grooming salon??(trips to the salon will be $60 plus depending on the breed & many will need 4 plus trips ) I ask because we board/groom alot of dogs that the parents have suddenly taken on because there children have finished uni got jobs & are unable to take the dog with them or found it to hard to get rental for there big dog or suitable flat mates. Out little dogs alert us more to strangers than our big dogs, the big ones just look more intimidating . The best choice is the dog you can control & handle easily when out in public & one you wish to happily live with for the next 12/14 years. There are so many that may be suitable but it comes down what your preferences really are read this article ,its ashame it didn't get the same exposure as her other stuff http://www.ourdogs.co.uk/News/2011/Feb2011/pedigree.htm
  14. I will swap your 2 for our 5 ,they have come in 2 months early .Luckily all our girls come in the same time
