  1. we pick the pups for the owners ,those first on the list do get the benefit of picking from a choice that will suit. The next factor will be whats in the litter . If you want set colour & sex then your choices are limited until they are born. If your open minded then the choices are easier but a good breeder will ask questions regarding what you want(pet, show, obedience, dogsport, field, retrieving etc ) and match accordingly.
  2. First rule don't leave food down. Pup will be teething & some can go off there food during this time . As already mentioned how many times do you feed, what treats & could the portion size be too big. What time do you feed?? You say similiar diet what exactly have you changed & have you asked the breeder there thoughts. A simple diet change can mean alot to a pup so i would be looking at going back to there diet unless you have a good reason not to. Your pup may also be missing the other s for eating competitively so you need to be the dogs comp, don't feed the same time, don't leave food down,if pup doesn't look hungry don't feed it you need to teach pup to embrace its food bowl not refuse it
  3. I would have said $1650 was more average. $1500 sounds a good price . The main thing i would be worried about is breeders testing for hips/elbows & DNA for EIC.PRA
  4. otherwise consider a 3 berth dog trailer, great at dog sports as they can sit in there ,overnight events or even the beach .
  5. The Klugers have great space & would fit 3 labs easily ,even more so if the seats are done, you could also fit a crate easier in a Kluger. I drive a Terry every year & there space is useless for the cost of the car
  6. in all the years i showed inside & inside the last few ,never been outside You should get a good ES turnout for the Gundog & ES show after that its hit an miss if they turn up ,often most don't & the monday judge had ES in the UK so there won't be too many entered
  7. all our toys are brought from the op shops,Just check the stuffing, remove eye s if need be & the cheapest toy around. Other favorite stick tennis ball in sock & tie end they love toys that sorta play back. You don't need to spend big on toys,
  8. The other factor to consider with big dog is the space it takes in the car when everyone is in it,if the dog won;t fit it won't go on many family outings .
  9. Then certainly have a go whilst a baby ,when they hit minor they go through the fugglies anyway ,baby is fun plus labs do really well at winning baby in grps due to there cuteness
  10. the problem is what is rare in my state is abundant in another, what is a minority breed can be considered rare. I am currently showing a breed that is a one off, there is a new male here & they are suppose to show so will see what happens. I also have to aim high, i go to shows for group etc etc,if my dog can't win those or be considered often then its safe to say he isn't of quality. Luckily for me he is a Multi BIS winner & has won in tough breed comp in 3 states plus picked up multi grp/ruig in 3 states .Is a Grand Ch & has competed at 3 royals this year for grp.ruig & grp 4. He has proven himself amongst the best .
  11. I have shown & own English Setters. Very laid back dogs to show but alot of work for the ring ,the long hair part is easy, keeping them white is the hardest task but easily done with dedication . Mine where bathed twice weekly ,pee feathers every night. For show prep 2/3 hrs each week . I groom springers for the show ring & less work than the English but still the same dedication to keeping coat white & in peak condition . I would suggest going to the Gundog Shows in Queensland ,The English springer club have there champ shows each year . Shelties you will always see at shows plus Springers. English Setters not so much, not many shown up there but there is a person who has both springers & english
  12. To be honest irrespective of the brand that isn't alot of food for a growing baby & yes could very well be hungry. I don't feed supacoat but many do with no issues,if your happy with the dry then start adding more bulk to the meal raw mutton, chicken frames ,chicken necks or turkey necks, chicken mince, roo etc etc. I now my large breed pups at that age would be getting a kilo or more food a day & there not fat & run an acre all day every day They get dry, raw, necks, tuckertime roll etc etc Are you feeding what the breeder suggested ?? Have you asked the breeder what they suggest especially the portion size ??
  13. But comparing bold is like comparing apples to oranges. You also can't compare a Rotti to a Grey Most average Joe would have no idea what a correct Greyhound temp was ,when we owned 13 & showed most people presumed they where nasty & would chase there kids or worse. No one ever said look at the timid greyhound
  14. Blame the owners sighthounds are sensitive but shouldn;t be timid. All our Greys where bomb proof, every weekend you see kids taking in Whippets for junior handlers because they are such perfect dogs temp wise . I should also add most breeds are sensitive ,matching the right owner to the right breed is so important
  15. we have a 100% success rate on spay contracts but wouldn't hesitate to do either option at 8/10 weeks . Our breed is highly sort after for DD,BYB & is crossed with any thing & every thing. Always seen advertised in Pet shops & always sold at puppy farms both pure & crossed. All the good breeders we now of in our breed do the same .
  16. The Bull Terriers use the ROM title & i think there is based solely on points gained at shows. I like the system used by the American Whippet club OM/ROMX Regulations PDF FORM Approved January 2006; effective April 2006 The AWC Register of Merit program was developed to recognize Whippet sires and dams with superior producing ability. It was not designated as a conformation-only program and in past years we have seen an attempt to recognize more of the performance titles but they have been cumbersome at best. By utilizing events that already have inspection of disqualifying faults, this proposal provides a fairly simple way for people to utilize several different champion level titles in recognizing superior sires and dams. Following are a list of the titles and venues that will be discussed in the requirements: ROM/ROMX contributing titles: AKC bench champion AKC Field Champion ASFA LCM: Lure Courser of Merit, levels 1 and higher. CWA ARX: Award of Racing Excellence NAWRA RCh: Race Champion NOFCA CC and CM: Coursing Champion, Courser of Merit NOTRA ORC: Oval Racing Champion WRA WRCh: Whippet Racing Champion Qualifying titles and events: AKC JC: Junior Courser AKC SC: Senior Courser AKC MC: Master Courser ASFA FCh: Field Champion CWA TRP: Title of Racing Proficiency ROM/ROMX Requirements – Effective April 2006 The AWC awards the producing titles of ROM (Register Of Merit) and ROMX (Register Of Merit Excellent) to Whippets who have sired or produced exceptional numbers of bench, race or coursing champions. The American Whippet Club will award the Register of Merit and Register of Merit Excellent titles to outstanding sires and dams (alive or deceased) when the following requirements have been met: Register of Merit (ROM) For any Whippet sire whose offspring have earned a minimum of 15 or any Whippet dam whose offspring have earned a minimum of 7 of the following titles: Register of Merit Excellent (ROMX) For any Whippet sire whose offspring have earned a minimum of 25 or any Whippet dam whose offspring have earned a minimum of 10 of the following titles: 1. Contributing Titles: Unconditional Titles: AKC Champion, AKC Field Champion, ASFA LCM, ARM, ARX. Conditional Titles: CC, CM, ORC, RCH, WRCh. Since these titles are earned in venues where breed disqualifications are not completely inspected, or dogs with disqualifications can title, every dog contributing one of the conditional titles must present proof of an additional qualifying title or attendance in an event where height, eye and bite disqualifications, as described in the AWC breed standard, are examined for. 2. Qualifying titles and events include: AKC coursing (JC, SC, MC) CWA racing (TRP) ASFA coursing (FCh) Proof of competition in the AKC conformation ring. For the above listed events, either proof of title (photocopy) or an official record of attendance can serve to prove the dog has been inspected at least once, for all breed disqualifications. 3. A copy of the Contributing Title certificate MUST accompany the ROM/ROMX application (proof of AKC Ch, ARX, LCM, etc). It is up to the applying party to present all necessary documentation for all contributing titles! This is NOT THE JOB of the program director and the application WILL NOT BE PROCESSED if the paperwork is not complete. 4. A copy of the Qualifying Title or an official record of attendance MUST accompany the ROM/ROMX application where a conditional title is used. It is up to the applying party to present all necessary documentation for conditional titles! This is NOT THE JOB of the program director and the application WILL NOT BE PROCESSED if the paperwork is not complete. 5. Only one title in each field of endeavor to be counted (one racing title, one coursing title, one open field title). Conformation: AKC Champion Lure Coursing: ASFA LCM or higher, AKC FCh Racing: ARX, RCh, ORC, WRCh Open Field Coursing NOFCA CM, NOFCA CC 6. Only two titles maximum count per offspring. ROM awards are granted by application only. The applicant need not be the owner of the dog, but a completed form must be submitted, including proof of all contributing and qualifying titles.
