  1. Nearly all the Mini breeders i know remove them we certainly do The problem with removing them older is more a vet thing,if not done correctly it can cause issues. Your pup shouldn;t be getting stuck in the carpet unless there not being cut? Personally i wish breeders would remove them because most average joe don't cut them like we do. I have been sliced open far to many times in the kennels by over grown dew claws & have some major scars due to the damage done .
  2. Whilst a good breeder is worth every cent you wont be living with that breeder for the next 12 years 24/7. Many people have 2/3 breeds in mind & often go with whats available first BUT they are very committed to owning either of those so the decision comes down to who they have contacted, who has litters coming up & often how long they wish to wait for a pup.
  3. My dogs are trained in wire crates before using soft crates .soft crates ( a good quality one ) are excellent but easy to destroy,Wire crates have better air flow, easier to attach water bowls & do last longer . I use soft crates at some dog shows depending on the need on the day
  4. Plenty of heavier coated dogs live up there & do fine.Providing the right cool spots is a must . Just brush regulary & the dog will be fine
  5. Those pups will have lovely natures Zoli & her brother Chip are easy dogs to be around & i have handled both on many occasions & Squiggy is a real character
  6. The judge was LInda Pitts (USA) The swap dogs i can do otherwise go to FB on Michelle Hickeys page megz there all there
  7. you can buy bait bags at the canine , If you have pockets its a bonus & just whack the bait if you in a plastic bag is a tad melty /yucky. I more than often shove it down my bra . I rarely put it in my mouth because if the judge asks how old you need to answer. It really depends on the bait your using . I generally use liver.fish fingers, chicken and occasionally sausage except for my gordie who hates them. Most of the Lab folk use liver & generally the crew have buckets full of the stuff & a bait strapper near by if you run out ;) You can buy false pockets & just safety pin it to your clothes
  8. Victoria Jacqui O Riley National Winner NSW Rachel Shaw National Runner up

  10. we pick the pups for the owners ,those first on the list do get the benefit of picking from a choice that will suit. The next factor will be whats in the litter . If you want set colour & sex then your choices are limited until they are born. If your open minded then the choices are easier but a good breeder will ask questions regarding what you want(pet, show, obedience, dogsport, field, retrieving etc ) and match accordingly.
  11. First rule don't leave food down. Pup will be teething & some can go off there food during this time . As already mentioned how many times do you feed, what treats & could the portion size be too big. What time do you feed?? You say similiar diet what exactly have you changed & have you asked the breeder there thoughts. A simple diet change can mean alot to a pup so i would be looking at going back to there diet unless you have a good reason not to. Your pup may also be missing the other s for eating competitively so you need to be the dogs comp, don't feed the same time, don't leave food down,if pup doesn't look hungry don't feed it you need to teach pup to embrace its food bowl not refuse it
  12. I would have said $1650 was more average. $1500 sounds a good price . The main thing i would be worried about is breeders testing for hips/elbows & DNA for EIC.PRA
  13. otherwise consider a 3 berth dog trailer, great at dog sports as they can sit in there ,overnight events or even the beach .
  14. The Klugers have great space & would fit 3 labs easily ,even more so if the seats are done, you could also fit a crate easier in a Kluger. I drive a Terry every year & there space is useless for the cost of the car
  15. in all the years i showed inside & inside the last few ,never been outside You should get a good ES turnout for the Gundog & ES show after that its hit an miss if they turn up ,often most don't & the monday judge had ES in the UK so there won't be too many entered
  16. all our toys are brought from the op shops,Just check the stuffing, remove eye s if need be & the cheapest toy around. Other favorite stick tennis ball in sock & tie end they love toys that sorta play back. You don't need to spend big on toys,
  17. The other factor to consider with big dog is the space it takes in the car when everyone is in it,if the dog won;t fit it won't go on many family outings .
  18. Then certainly have a go whilst a baby ,when they hit minor they go through the fugglies anyway ,baby is fun plus labs do really well at winning baby in grps due to there cuteness
  19. the problem is what is rare in my state is abundant in another, what is a minority breed can be considered rare. I am currently showing a breed that is a one off, there is a new male here & they are suppose to show so will see what happens. I also have to aim high, i go to shows for group etc etc,if my dog can't win those or be considered often then its safe to say he isn't of quality. Luckily for me he is a Multi BIS winner & has won in tough breed comp in 3 states plus picked up multi grp/ruig in 3 states .Is a Grand Ch & has competed at 3 royals this year for grp.ruig & grp 4. He has proven himself amongst the best .
  20. I have shown & own English Setters. Very laid back dogs to show but alot of work for the ring ,the long hair part is easy, keeping them white is the hardest task but easily done with dedication . Mine where bathed twice weekly ,pee feathers every night. For show prep 2/3 hrs each week . I groom springers for the show ring & less work than the English but still the same dedication to keeping coat white & in peak condition . I would suggest going to the Gundog Shows in Queensland ,The English springer club have there champ shows each year . Shelties you will always see at shows plus Springers. English Setters not so much, not many shown up there but there is a person who has both springers & english
