  1. Depends on the quality of coat(strippable),whether your stripping back to skin & whether they have done any work . If the coat is totally overgrown it won't get done in go they will need a follow up . Charge i suggest from $80 depending on coat. If they don't do anything themselves & just plan to come once a year i wouldn't even bother as its alot of work with no reward it isn't that hard for the owner to work on a good coat regulary but it will most likley have alot of under coat that needs to come out hence the not in one session factor
  2. Bunbury was certainly warm, after a very last minute decision to attend(bathing dog at 8am saturday & driving smsing friends to see where the judging was up to) i was more than happy to win Best in Show both days . Our classic judges for gundogs judged here 3 years ago so it will be interesting to see what they do considering they have judged many of the dogs alreay . The dogs did cope well considering but its been a long time since i attended a hot Dec Bunbury show
  3. Keep fit, keep the weight off, don't over use painmeds . My boy has Bowen done every 2/3 weeks . In winter keep warm & even in Summer be careful there not in an air con draft. My boy has had it bad for 4 years now,we only use pain relief when needed otherwise the ability for it to work well starts to wear out plus they cause other issues so we try to ensure a good long term plan than over use .We have found in the warmer weather the meds aren't required as much so we use this time frame for a break . we use arnica cream on the main areas and any other natural product where possible
  4. Snopaws i have no issues with the occasional dog that barks but i will be honest if im stuck behind or infront of a dog that constantly goes off i will also tell the owner to keep the dog quiet. For me this isn't good ring etiquette ,dogs can sparkle without noise .
  5. can the BOB baby compete for group /BIS?? I say no babies are babies & its a fun time for them
  6. We use Arnica with comfrey on the dogs all the time ,best stuff around & wonderful on my old boy with arthritis
  7. A number plate of a car was given to the Police, its seems they brought a drink in the bar & when distracted took the cash tin . Un savoury guest have been stealing things for awhile but tonight was a real wake up call to how brave there getting esepcially now most events are at night
  8. If you want airline approved then your only choice is Vari/sky or similiar & not cheap ,$300 plus for the size you want . There are 2 Varis for sale on DOL at present in QLD that are good priced
  9. When you say airline are you planning to fly or just want a crate ?? The reason i ask is the new restrictions on crates for flying means your choices are limited compared to just buying a crate
  10. Yep i agree being with her 24/7 is the worst thing you can do. Puppies need to learn to be independant & they cope very well on there own,you train from day 1 for the future & that means a dog that can happily be on its on . Taking to work will also set her up for being needy instead of being independant. Unless your backyard is unsafe your pup needs to be allowed outside unattended & at the breeders your pup will be use to romping outside & enjoying it self. Our pups similiar size run an acre & spends hours on there own enjoying the outside world & we remind our puppy owners that as puppies they have experienced life & enjoyed it & its important people continue . Cavies are sporting spaniels & enjoy being s dogs . Our pups learn to use the doggy door from 6 weeks & at that age are trained to go outside to the toilet but we have owners who live in apartments that use false turf & the pups have adapted well but if you have a backyard train using it from day 1 . Main suggestion don't fuss or over protect ,treat the dog as a dog & it will be a very enjoyable pet for life, spoil it now & you will set yourself for issues when older & it will be harder for the dog to adapt
  11. i am so sick of hearing rare breeds & hard to gain the points, I have 3 grands ,2 rarely had comp,my other had breed comp 3 times in my home state . All grands at 3 years & under in a state where we have no options in shows we all show at the same . 1000 points is very achieveable & rare has no boundries . Looking forward to the Supreme award, i have 2 who have meet the requirements just need that 1 CC.
  12. My current Grand champ is the only one of his breed shown but he is a multi BIS /BIG winner .Being the only example shown isn't a set back at all .if the dog is good enough it will win. My other 2 grands where also often the only examples shown for the major part of there career but again multi BIS/BIG winners . The Aussies bronze/silver/gold is a title you can apply for & receive a certificate but you can't use it in entry forms as it isn't reconized in every state .
  13. Gold/silver /bronze is an unofficial title that is gained for points between the Ch & Grand Ch 100 Champion Bronze 250 points silver 500 points gold 750 points Grand 1000 points plus requirements
  14. I have 3 Grand Ch all attained the title 3 years or younger, the breed isn't in there prime till 5/6 .I have made up 4 others as a handler . i don't breed & like others these are my showdogs till retired .To have retired my oldies at 3 would be a crying shame & my current grand is no where near his prime & only 3 Grand is just a title .good dogs should be shown & are easily beaten & like already mentioned any breed can gain its grand title.
  15. Nearly all the Mini breeders i know remove them we certainly do The problem with removing them older is more a vet thing,if not done correctly it can cause issues. Your pup shouldn;t be getting stuck in the carpet unless there not being cut? Personally i wish breeders would remove them because most average joe don't cut them like we do. I have been sliced open far to many times in the kennels by over grown dew claws & have some major scars due to the damage done .
  16. Whilst a good breeder is worth every cent you wont be living with that breeder for the next 12 years 24/7. Many people have 2/3 breeds in mind & often go with whats available first BUT they are very committed to owning either of those so the decision comes down to who they have contacted, who has litters coming up & often how long they wish to wait for a pup.
  17. My dogs are trained in wire crates before using soft crates .soft crates ( a good quality one ) are excellent but easy to destroy,Wire crates have better air flow, easier to attach water bowls & do last longer . I use soft crates at some dog shows depending on the need on the day
  18. Plenty of heavier coated dogs live up there & do fine.Providing the right cool spots is a must . Just brush regulary & the dog will be fine
  19. Those pups will have lovely natures Zoli & her brother Chip are easy dogs to be around & i have handled both on many occasions & Squiggy is a real character
