  1. Many pet owners trim the cords off or actually don't allow the coat to cord & brush it out, this applies with Pulis aswell. If people choice the Cords then they need to ensure the cords are parted often (each one cord by cord ) not end up with a matted mess which will make the coat unfunctional make the dogs life hell. Here.s a video of a different corded breed
  2. Last week was shark week on Foxtel ,i watch it yearly . They did a segment on dogs & said dogs that had fleas where a higher risk of being taken by a shark due to the blood . The did a test with robot dog & whilst they where attracted to the dog swimming the sharks didn't attack but when the robot dog segreted blood the sharks certainly started to be more keen . Sharks are just part of life i guess growing up in Mount Gambier & Port Lincoln there just a normal occurance for me that we saw regularly
  3. Millbrooksprings im not sure . There are 2 breeds that leave royal memories in my head for smelling badly. The Komodors at Adelaide & some of the Bloodhounds at Melbourne & when benched near them all day one can say there where some very unhappy campers about
  4. Dont worry those benched near them at Adelaide royal weren't impressed either but a good one should look special. I remember the stunner who hada segment on Westminster perfect cords, clean. The compare made it very known that it was hard task to get a Komodor to Westminster due to the amount of public but this boy showed his pants of & you had to say WOW. I also remember the following year the same dog has his cords chopped of for retirement & the weight of those cords was He was simply in looks a Puli but of course ten times bigger
  5. The only breeders i am aware off use to be in SA but that was many years ago & not sure ifr there still around or even breeding them. They wouldn't be the easiest breed to find homes for
  6. Just dab the feet with coke ,thats what we use on the show dogs if the floor is a tad slippery or resin grip I agree the altered gait would worry me more or the trying to get them off .
  7. crate him in the back so he feels secure
  8. Consider how & what you are doing what adjustments can be made. I groom every day plus the show dogs & never get sore . The tables vary in size, bath is raised, i use the foam camping mats in standing areas to ease the stress on feet,i sit when drying . I have long coats & could spend 6 hrs bathing/drying for shows if i have 3/4 in,at present about 3 hrs & except for being tired after a long day no soreness
  9. Given you have a breed that is already breed in big numbers & always easy to get pups i doubt the having a litter to stop buying from a pet shop of BYB will make any difference. What it comes down to is what your bitch has to offer the breed long term especially if the people who buy from you want to breed.show or compete in dog sports. The advantage of showing or competing in a dog sport is you have knowledge to pass onto puppy buyers ,a good breeder is someone who has more knowledge than the pet shop or BYB when they ask for assistance. Showing also gets you out amongst other breeders. The breed club in this state can offer much knowledge on the current health testing (not sure what you girl is tested for or clear by parentage for) . Going to shows (depending on the lines of your bitch whether show or working lines ) will allow you to see the current males that are about, allow you to see the progeny that is being produced & what lines have the ideals qualities you are wanting or need improving on ,these things are learnt by reading the breed standard, understanding the breeds major characteristics & then understanding your bitches pedigree & the history of what has been produced in those lines & the strengths & weakness, this can be done by looking at pictures on the net & your breeder being very honest . You can consider if not already known what colour your bitch carries. Is she clear for EIS,PRA or carrier /affected . What is her height, does she have correct scissor bite, good otter tail,is her coat texture a good quality. When she moves is she sound.bum high, does she have a low set tail or to high set tail,is she short on leg or too much leg & the list goes on All these must be considered in then looking at sires that will help to improve her faults so the litter will ne for the betterment . It also comes down to how much you wish to pay for a stud fee some people want the cheapest others are prepared to pay good money for the right male but you need to get out & see these males for yoursefl, introduce yourself to breeders & get yourself known . Some stud owners will say yes without a second thought,i prefer stud owners who wish to assess .ask questions & if need be say "no" if they don't beleive the combo will be suited or if the bitch isn't of quality say no to there sires being used .
  10. I have 2 friends who are vets but no longer practise but branched out to other fields & yes better paying jobs, normal hrs & have a life & can still enjoy there weekends with no after hrs calls or country relocations .
  11. 6.1.3 No word that is in the nature of a known prefix or deceptively similar to a known prefix and no prefix except the breeders registered prefix may be used in a dog’s name. It is the responsibility of the complainant to lodge an objection that a name conflicts with this regulation and it is further understood that it is not the responsibility of the processing office to recognise issues prior to lodgement of an objection. Regs on naming pups ,the name would have been refused due to being a prefix
  12. Are they with bigpond?? It took 3 days for all our emails to come through after fridays shut down. Yes they could be away or many other reasons. Yes they could be shonks but in the short time frame you have said i wouldn't be panicking yet I certainly wouldn't send the rest of the money until you have a response from them
  13. The groomers worse time of the year is winter when owners put those awful knitted coats or coats that go ounderneath & the owners don't brush, the winter brings the best of matted dogs. Of course you get the matted odg whose collar & tags are embedded in the knots & because matts add thickness there collars are to tight & you end up with a ring around the dogs neck when groomed The greater majority of people do try & succeed but you do have another group where simply they can't be bothered brushing the dog, often these households have plenty of people who could brush but apparently finding 10/15 mins is impossible. You do hear plenty of excuses & some are very creative. The best one i had was the daughter just got her period & it has been a stressful month (these dogs always came matted & with a varying excuse) many use final year exams with there children as an excuse too. Most matts can be worked out but it does come down to the dog many have no pain tolerance & many of the malt crosses have paper like skin where you can easily cut/damage the skin so you have to use your judgement on the damage risks. Some are simply shaved off like sheep & require scissors to get a starting point ,We have been very lucky this year & only had 3/4 of those . People are learning & the ones who don't brush but expect the dog to look perfect we have manage to find a happy medium between looking fancy but managable for all parties .
  14. We have owned 2 . Wonderful dogs ,very agile & can jump over anything, very responsive to training. Ours where fine with our other dogs but they are still Terriers, Coat wise they grow all the time so they must be brushed regulary & clipped or scissored every 8 weeks or so. They are born black & change to there colour with age, There coat is very unique in that it bruises, you often see black patches on mature coats & that is where it has played hard or run into something . They are known as the Lamb dog
  15. The other problem you get husband drops off & says all off .wife picks up & has a mental breakdown or vice versa.Communication between the owners is just as bad. You can ask all the questions to the person delivering the dog & what they say goes so people make sure EVERYONE knows what is wanted . We get many grandparents who drop off & again have no idea what is wanted & again people rarely answer there phones ,would be great if they did but when the dog is booked for a time slot you dont have the luxury to wait for them to return call. Dog is a mess so owner does the drop & run because there embarrassed & won't answer phone . Grass seeds we had one that had 7 in her Vulva & was oozing pus & yes it was a The dog had surgery to remove the others we found & in total had over 20 in her,she had such a severe infection in her chest they at first that it was a fatty tissue lump. Most infested grass seed dogs you ca smell walking in that smell is one of a kind . My personal favourite the fluffies that have enough shit caked to there bum that can't toilet & said dog is there proud house pet & sleeps on there bed yet they can't smell it or remove it because its gross but apparently fine for the groomer to do it . For the people we can't contact or even the ones we discuss prior to bad dogs get video or photo's taken to save our rep because sadly these are the worse people for bitching about previous groomers without telling the truth
  16. What size crate do you have now ?? I have both for varying occasions & have big & small dogs but generally the wire are easier ,more freindly for water bowls, air flow or covering & unless you are prepared to spend decent money on a soft crate it wont last
  17. You have fallen into the trap that most people seem to do. Because it can do things at a certain age "its trained" Second mistake expecting a dog you have had for 3 months to be perfect. Training never ends & sometimes people train to much & think wow & forget the good basics that set a dog for life . The dog will not be perfect nor should you expect it to be,this is a pup until 12 months,it will do things that give you the shits just like you did when you where a child with your parents . Like others have said with the pool if it isn't fenced then you need to plan where to leave pup safely if it is fenced it won't eat anything . Washing is an issue with many dogs, its fun & interesting & placed in the "dogs" play ground . As for jumping chances are your body language is that of frustrated owners but the dog is just as frustrated ,there like kids they crave attention, routine & mental outlets & toys just don;t do it at this age. How often is pup walked or taken out?? Besides sitting in the backyard what other interesting things does it get to do ?? Are the toys actually interesting or boring ?? How much time each day do you spend with the dog?? What where you expectations of a GSD & a puppy??
  18. What i find interesting is if the groomer phoned & said the knots where bad the OP would have said leave it & they would try to get them out surely if that was going to be one of there options then why not brush the knots out in the first place ?? I am so glad we can pick & choice our clients but i love my job as a groomer even though many people think its an easy job, many people are full of opinions yet never dealt with this career & quite frankly its a Thankless job where if you consider the dogs best interests you get post like this(again without knowing both sides & the actual dog ) & if you brushed the bad knots out your then cruel & should have considered the dog first . You can never tell the true condition of a Poodle coat or many others by photo's ,most groomers will have groomed the felted messes where the owners have brushed the top layer but not the bottom. I find it amazing how people are happy to point blame at the groomer without knowing there side as well . We take photo's & video of badly matted dogs because like many we learnt the first time about people who deny there dogs had knots & then whinge to one & all,we also keep the coat & even then some still wont accept it. I did a dog yesterday that had knots on its back leg ,had so for a few weeks but the owner decided it was going to the groomer so we can get them out & apparently put the dog through the trauma because it made them cry when it screamed That very big knot turned out to be a very infected grass seed where the pus had set like concrete
