  1. I dare say every club has there bad apples.i attended Southern River for years with our Minis,Greyhounds,Yank & the Irish. The mini no instructor had any comments to make, the Yank i trialled & all was good there (except when i took her to the Gundog Club & got told odd comments ) the Greyhound was fine in obedience but when it came to agility it was like a mass evacuation of people as they seemed to think my Grey was going to eat the doggies . With the Irish Setter i was constantly getting snide remarks from the instructors on there supposed lack of intelligence, luckily i have the guts to stand up for my breed & not be intimidated by idiots with big mouths but i can see how an excited new comer can be made to feel so daft in one easy hit & give training there dog a miss. I would still attend SR but haven't trained anything for awhile & would pick my trainer anyway .
  2. Agree get it sorted professionally .He needs to learn how to breakdown the fear & what it is that frightens him & the other family members need to learn how to support him . Even the most bomb proof dogs can sense fear so selection of dogs would have to be more than a few well trained ones they need to be absolutely ideal for this childs fear & reaction . We get alot of phone calls from parents wanting to get a family dog but have kids terrified of dogs & think getting a puppy will fix it,we won't sell to anyone in this situation. The fact they have already brought a pup & had rehome may already play havoc on this young boys mind & adding to his fear of the dog & the outcome it resulted in . Most places have fear/phobia classes ( spiders, heights & the likes that they must also cater for for dogs/cats )
  3. Main advise if your vet doesn't do after hours then have a back up plan that your happy to use . Very few clinics do after hrs these days or have the staff that you wish to use for after hr calls
  4. Nope we are there when the animals are tied,to many what ifs can go wrong & not prepared to risk them both to make life easier .
  5. We baord alot of "pairs" in Boxers. Never ever had an aggro issue. The only issue is i find Boxers seem to age fairly early on & don't always want that in your face youngster there so its important to ensure oldie has time out & youngie has options. many of the Boxers we board from 7 yrs are quite old which is ashame
  6. We to have never done anything different nor have any of our friends where singleton pups are quite normal . Never ever had an issue pup .
  7. Sounds like a typical Berner to me . To be honest i wouldn't worry if he doesn't interact ,the puppy school free for all often teaches puppies that any dog they see is free game to play & owners end up in a pickle when suddenly they try to teach the same pup that you can't always play ,having a giant breed that is happy not to join in will be a blessing when older . Berners are lazy, laid back & that is what is why people love them, they prefer to be around humans doing human pleasing jobs like pulling the carts
  8. We don't let them clip our retirees ,i can understand maybe the occasional trim in a matted dog but most clip half a leg of & then tell you its for hygiene reasons That is why i love our vet not only is he could but they aren't clipper happy
  9. Hydrogen perioxide will help kill the bugs & dry it out or the puff powder medicated works well too Anti biotics may assist We use an eye cream occasionally that works miracles but vets won't hand it out . I don't understand why vets have to clip it is such a lazy way of doing things
  10. The name you may be stuck with if that is what the breeder supplied, you can sometimes appeal but generally there must be good reason. As for the address details they should be easy to change via the canine control
  11. Plus the pain of putting them on/off so they can pee when they need to .
  12. Going over is easy coming back is the issue ,if these people stay there for 4 years the dog will be 11 years & have to do quarantine(30 days providing all tests are done correctly) ,some dogs may cope well but an aged dog is much harder . Rehoming can be done ,i would look at working with a very good organization that can assist you if you defiantly head down this path & i would suggest sooner rather than latter .
  13. There very flimsy so you would want a well trained dog in it ,the mesh isn't always the toughest either. The last one i saw at the shows blew away, granted it had chi.s in it but there not as solid as the soft crates
  14. I can't remember in WA but im fairly sure any items set up before the time allowed can be removed or something similiar . If people set up on the day they aren't showing the space must be used or the items will be shifted . The only problem is who determines what time someone isn't getting there ?? I set up for a friday night show ,the show started at 7.30pm mum got there at 8 pm,pissing down with rain. I told her where i had set up & the trolley, chairs, grooming box etc etc where all there because the weather was so bad. When she got there carrying dog quickly through the rain then looking for our gear she ended up phoning me. Apparently a select group of people figured it wasn't being used & shifted our gear in varying places ,i went off not only had they removed our gear they also had no idea where they had shifted it to . . So one also needs to be careful when touching peoples property ,these people meet with one very pissed off person & they new it & after there funny haha attitude soon realized they better get of there butts & find our gear which of course they had no idea what it looked like . The trolley ended up being in the rain so the blankets & cover where wet plus the trolley it self & the other stuff had been moved down the line by other people . People who shift any gear need to also take caution not to damage or loss any of it & i don't believe that job should fall on any volunteer . Spot fines i think are more than doable .
  15. I don't feed BARF ,found it too hard to maintain weight on my dogs & had to feed way to much to do so & they look no different on it to what they are feed normally & our dogs never get sick. But each to there own some swear by it others find it isn't great only you can decide on the right diet & right ratio for your dog The problem i see with barf is everyone goes by weight for age & this percentage etc. You need to feed according to your pup ,you don't need guidelines or weight ratios you need to adapt to what your dog looks like on a weekly basis.
  16. First off you should never have brought the pup being sold at 6 weeks & given that excuse is very poor form & i would question what other short cuts this breeder has taken. But you have brought it . Frenchies are hardy dogs but be warned this pup will have a very confusing puppy stage as to who it actually belongs too & may end up quite distressed when it finally comes to live with you without any company during the day & adjusting to a new home & new people as your just visitors . As for visiting no but you need to trust these people To be honest if this was my pup i would simply leave it at home alone it won't be worse off
  17. To be honest looking at the quantity i wouldn't think there is enough being feed, alot of the other stuff your giving isn't a meal food but add ons. Yoghurt & Sardines are just add ons .Potato & pumpkin are fillers ,nothing wrong but aren't for weight gain just variety,we use pumpkin for dogs who have had the runs . So basically his bulk meal depending on the size are just the barf patties which are often very small What your feeding may be fine but you need to adjust the size with age . You certainly need to feel the dog & this would happen when you are brushing the dog ??? You would feel the weight very easily coat doesn't make any difference . Massaging his testicles is easy but don't go overboard so the dog becomes paranoid again you can do this during grooming time which is touch & feel time. As for picking at food if he doesn't eat it it goes ,this applies to chicken necks, don't teach him to be fussy . Also keep in mind pup has lost its competion to eat so you need to fill that role so if any food hasn;t been eaten it goes in 10 mins . Our puppies we prefer to have good cover as they do grow quickly & do hit an age we underweight can suddenly turn into very underweight. Whilst lean is good too lean can also be an issue & not assist in growing up nicely. We see dogs that have been kept to lean as pups & very evident in adulthood . At 10 weeks you pup will be playing alot more so you need to do weekly weight assessments & adjust the meals accordingly
  18. Inside is just like Perth except walled in,can get airless. Outside is also just like Perth except we have better lawn, all in all no real difference except if it pours with rain & the car park gets tad soggy so pack shoes that your either happy to kill or can chuck or pack small gummies if the weather ends up wet
  19. If it has a good Cairn coat then it is easier to put the extra 30 mins in to do the work. It really isn't that hard if shown the basics. Much easier to maintain than a clipped coat ,if there is a good groomer near by getting them to go over the coat once /twice a year will also be helpful providing your friends do the work as well.
  20. I don't believe she is ,we aren't a fan of the ACES scheme so i think you would have to go through Rivergum & use Martin King,i think he may also work from Murdoch as well but not sure if he does breeder tests at Murdoch like Ziggy does. Through Rivergum it will most likely cost big $$$
  21. T=She works from either Swanbourne vet or Murdoch Uni
  22. The greater majority use Ziggy Chester for eyes As far as heart i now some cavie people had organized a heart testing day but can't remember whether its already been held
  23. I would maybe be open with the sex, For starters the breeder may have no girls in the litter . For example our last 2 litters have been all boys so those wanting girls only will be waiting alot longer . A good breeder will also be able to tell you if the bitches in the litter will suit a home with your child plus the friends that will visit. I think picking the right pup is often more important than the gender but you can certainly have your preference . Also keep in mind you may not be first on the list as well. Your daughter can certainly play a big part but make sure she understands the breeder will be playing a bigger part in selecting the right pup for you . When kids come out & see cute puppies they don't think with there heads they just see cuteness & want now . We often get parents or 1 parents come out & see the pups first to make sure they are happy with what they see before letting there children now or come out When people come out to look at our pups we see which ones interact best with children ,often we already now which pups will be better suited . As for involvement it comes down to age, breed & not teaching confusing signs to the dog but kids can certainly play a good part.
  24. Agree vaccinate pup as per schedule & then titre test if its a concern but i wouldn't be relying on natural vaccines & i am a big supporter of going the natural route 99% of the time but not for puppy vaccs .
