  1. Your breeder is still the main person to ask as they now the dog in question & may have already used methods that worked. As for weight when you say she is thin due to being an Ex show dog what do you mean ??? Be careful not to think fat is better ,she is only 10 months w& would still be going through growth changes & no where near filled out body wise. Don't think feeding her up will put the weight on ,infact to much food will come out the other end & she will lose weight . Training starts now BUT if she hasn't been trained to do something then you need to educate her, there is no point spraying her with water for not doing something she has no cle about. Decide what the house rules are & everyone in the house must follow them & it will take time to train her to understand the whole new world she is now in .It may take a few months for her to settle & get use to the changes but being consistent & fair is the main aim . We do encourage our puppy/older dog buyers to vet check. We have sold a healthy dog but feel its important for the owners to also vet check early on & if anything crops up it can be discussed, sorted or explained .
  2. Also read this Of interest is the fact that breeds on the “Fit For Function Breed Watch” list that include “points of concern for special attention by judges” come from right across the KC show system: the Basset and Bloodhound, Borzoi, Irish Wolfhound and Sloughi (Hound Group); Gordon Setter, Golden and Labrador Retriever, American and Clumber Spaniel (Gundogs); Bedlington, Bull, Cesky, Irish, Norwich, Staffordshire and West Highland White Terrier (Terrier Group); Bulldog, Chow Chow, French Bulldog and Shar Pei (Utility Group); Dogue De Bordeaux, Great Dane, Mastiff, Neapolitan Mastiff, Newfoundland, Siberian Husky and Saint Bernard (Working Group); Bearded, Rough and Smooth Collie, German Shepherd Dog, Old English Sheepdog, Pyrenean Mountain Dog and Shetland Sheepdog (Pastoral Group); Chinese Crested, Pekingese, Pomeranian and Pug (Toy Group).
  3. Welcome to the Bulldog Breed Council Web Site The Breed Council is made up of representatives of 17 Member Breed Clubs Press Release March 12th 2012 The Bulldog Breed Council wishes to support the winning Exhibitor and the very experienced and respected Judge at Cruft’s 2012 . We wish to clarify the events of the past weekend at Cruft’s and put an end to speculation. We have worked with the Kennel Club over the last 8 years in a concentrated effort to focus on the points that needed urgent attention to improve the health of the Bulldog. Long before any media attention and publicity we have had a health committee and a strategy to take the health of the breed forward , we have had many meetings and dialogue over a period of time with the Kennel Club that have not been instigated by Media frenzy but by the Breeders themselves . The Facts …. The top winning Bulldog in question has an old eye injury, it is not visible to the naked eye in the normal manner of being examined by the judge nor is it visible without pulling the dog’s eyelid down and a light being used. It was a knock to the eye the dog had as a puppy and as had no ill effects and the exhibitor had not given this a second thought as a reason the dog would not be classed as healthy by the independent veterinarian on the day. It seems the Kennel Club are assuming that any mark on the cornea of any Bulldog is due to damage caused by eye disease, in this case this is simply not true, and will be taken up with the Kennel Club by representatives of the Bulldog Breed Council at a meeting on 23rd March which we hopefully will prevent situations like this re-occurring in future In all other areas this bulldog is healthy and passed all requirements. This bulldog also went through this very same veterinary check as a volunteer at the trial run held by the BUBA [british Utility Breeds Association] in December 2011which was witnessed and watched by two independent Show officials of the society. With this passed obviously there was no warning that this failure was going to happen at such a high profile show in front of the world just a few months later. We wish to add that Bulldog Breeders, Judges and Exhibitors are in a total disbelief because this bulldog has done so well not only in the UK but also in Europe. We ask but one more point for you to ponder, this bulldog is fit for function, it’s a dog and as such has the freedom to enjoy its life with the rough and tumble that dogs at play have, we as a breed have no intention to say our dogs must be wrapped in cotton wool, they are a tough dog. Being a dog, any dog, accidents can and do happen!
  4. Puppies are cute when there asleep .luckily yours beats the heatwave to a degree, mine has coped the heat since arriving
  5. Nope far enough away not to worry but our house is always in the line of fire for the water bombers etc etc which we love watching so yesterday was amazing. This time i was getting the photo's of Marty :D no matter what missed out last time as we where on stand by to evao the other kennel area
  6. Elvis today refilling for the fire down the road
  7. If she is to rough for the Shelties then a Yank would be no different . I owned & breed Yanks for many years & they are tough critters but fairly gentle players ,i would imagine a yank would sooner play with the Shelties . As you now it would be over a year before the Yank was big enough to play in which time i would imagine it will have paired up with the Shelties as it play mates A springer would be better suited
  8. Having been to Crufts myself & i can certainly vouch it is the most airless & stinking hot place to spend a day .The lights are so hot & you can't go outside for any relief
  9. This is one you can hire in Perth BUT its a big trailer ,4 berth plus 2 trolleys bays at the end ,small caravan size
  10. Clumbers where my first choice of breed when i was allowed to pick my first show dog as a child . Lovely dogs but at my age back then no way could i do the bathing & the likes just way to heavy. Luckily slobber is no issue for me because they are worse than the English A friend showed them in Perth for many years & had wonderful success with one of her boys .
  11. Yep think i will be a granny & be in bed by 7.30 pm But it was a lovely weekend with perfect weather . I only took one dog to the show & ended up with Runner up to Best in Show & a great little stash of prizes
  12. What i find scary is people are happy to have there dog vac & heartwormed on the same day .What a chemical overload ,originally it was always product guideline never to have the 2 done on the same day ,i wonder if this has changed or vets don't bother . We won't use it & we don't recommend it to our puppy owners & if they do use it its at there own risk . The prices we see clients pay for the yearly jab is atotal rip off the av cost is around $150 plus total madness to pay that much
  13. Nope you can apply as often as you like, you can give tablets to . Arnica with Comfry in it is even better & you can get it from good horse shops .
  14. My boy has severe spondo & he gets bowen every 3 weeks this has been the best form of treatment by far, He has issues with certain pain killers where 3 days use is all he can do before they send him silly so we are limit in options. I run arnica cream on the worse areas often & this does help especially his hock joint which now has arthritis & gives him more greif. I do hot packs through winter ,keeping him active is a must ,when in a deep sleep i let him slepep but if hes awake then i ensure he gets up & moves more often than not . Mentally he is spot on but bodily he is struggling & we are at the stage each week is a bonus & i now the time is getting closer where he ont be able to get up. He has had it for 3 years now & only in the last 2 months has he gone down hill quickly BUT i am lucky he has the will to do things. He still loves his small walks ,he still loves his bath & all these things play a big part in his week to week routine, all the things that bring him joy i ensure he gets daily
  15. Another useless topic that just makes the good breeders seem bad for advertising in the right places .
  16. Who has kids to cater for old age?? That would be rather selfish .
  17. As for any flight no i wouldn't like to be near them BUT there are many adults i would prefer not near me to. The bad BO The stinky smoker The drinker who never stops & becomes a pain The worse long haul experience man with snotty nose that danced whilst he slept up/down/up/down until he decided to roll 2 tissues & stuff them up there . Although i recall a flight recently where the parent thought it was fun for there child to sit on them above there head ,apparently they didn't care that people wanted to watch the movies, they didn't care this child was in those peoples faces non stop nor did they care when it spewed on them ,but plenty of poor me (parents) & no sympathy from anyone affected by there actions .
  18. Why does someone have to give a reason. I have dogs there not my surrogate kids, there my pets . I don't want kids ,there not something i wish to share in my life. Just because we where all kids once doesn't mean we should have them . Most people who don't want kids are quite capable of interacting with them so don't see what the big deal is or why people see this as something weird ?? I don't like being around ill mannered children ,i don't like being around children whose parents think its fine to send them off to annoy others whilst they have fun,i don't like being around children 24/7 . I like children in small doses & those that are respectful & a pleasure to be around . I have no time for parents that push there kids on to you because it may make you want them Kids are for special people .i am NOT a special kid person & would never be so selfish to have a kid just because .
