  1. Yep she needs to learn inside/outside rules & the more time she spends inside the more she will learn the rules & the more you as a family will read the signs plus learning better house manners as a puppy is easier than when a big adult. Don't worry about the cold ,the weather will only get worse so you need to train now whilst the weather is still good. Generally dogs do give signs but you need to learn them (running around looking for a spot) & if you aren't seeing them then train her so both understand what is wanted If she doesn't have access to outside then you need to teach her the rules of going to the door & making it fun & outside for wees. If your home during the day i would consider allowing her more in time during the day to start teaching her the rules because its far easier than at night when people tend to "forget" or its cold * no one wants to move . At present her routine for nigh is toilet inside & she doesn't understand any different, the laundry could also be cold which won't help with training Don't growl but don't fuss if a mess is made because reality is its everyone's fault pup has toileted inside. You need to stand outside until something happens ,walk around but no games ,toilet time is that,If nothing happens bring her inside on a leash sit down for a few minutes then go outside again with the key words ,it will happen .
  2. Also keep bloat in mind ,it can slowly build up have been there done that
  3. Trailer for crap & car for dogs . That is what i do I take 2/3 dogs in car & tow a 6 berth trailer I have just returned from NSW showing There was no royal repeat for my boy but his brother won so all happy there We won RUBISS at The Setter show under a US gundog specialist . And i collected the award for Australian Show Gordon of the year awarded at the shows so a very happy time
  4. The Setter Club of NSW judge D Kittredge (USA) BIS Irish Ch Tullane Might & Power RUIS Gordon Grd Ch Deveron Amazingly Easy
  5. I can't suggest anyone but i do now one club used students studying film at uni/tafe to video & edit a dog show & it worked at well & it was used as part of there course marks
  6. I would consider around $10 000 to be a reasonable figure to work with maybe more The US has flight restrictions for certain weather stages so keep that in mind as well.
  7. Any dog will chase your cats ,drive has nothing to do with . Infact of all the breeds we have owned the only safe ones around cats where the Greyhounds . The breeds you have listed are all so different in size & needs. If you don't have hrs to spare then factor in coat care . Keeshond need a good few hrs a week for brushing . Briards are big powerful dogs with lots of coat again a few hrs each week. Lagottos need hair cuts so factor in the expense. Tollers easy coat care but are thinkers Brittany easy coat care & again thinkers. Infact of all the things you have listed the Whippet would fit the couch potato aspect the most & the other areas, great with toddlers & small enough they can enjoy the dog
  8. Yep flea rinse is meant to remain on & blow dryers warm up with use . I use dryers every day & rarely use the heat option as it is very hot
  9. At 8 months i would still expect him to grow ,he should certainly be starting to fill out but generally Labs at 8 months are going through the fugglies & look all legs with a tube body & start to come back into shape from 10 months . But each dog is different but even with my guys i have only had 1 stop growing at 10 months
  10. You must buy tickets for Contest of winners as its a sit down event at tables ,Anyone wishing to just watch will be asked to leave .
  11. Time to stop it being a game & time to set the rules,'At 5 months she is old enough to be learning & setting her up for success with age . If your breeder will help you take it up PROVIDING yopu want to clip yourself otherwise decide how you want her groomed & source a groomer who will do it that way. Are you wanting the top coat hand stripped?? Has the breeder shown you how to work on the top coat ?? Our are you after simple & easy clip off?? The training will make & break how you groom her yourself long term ,badly behaved often end up matted & not worked on as its to hard work (spent 3 hrs clipping of a cocker this morning because it plays to for the owners ,it came off like a sheep ) Do you groom her on a bench/table that is non slip ?? or on the floor/knee??
  12. The problem is they grow like weeds ,mine is getting bigger & bigger & puppy cuddles not as easy on the lap now
  13. There are plenty of mobile ,most arent good & i doubt to many will allow you to stay & watch. It is harder work to groom a dog with the owner sitting there or walking about ,Dog moves & the risk of an accident is to high plus it takes far longer . Plus many groom in there van or trailer so no extra space for people If you want to watch to learn then you need to ask the groomer because explaining things as you go is very time consuming & you would get charged more . They should be listed in the yellow pages & then its a case of pot luck
  14. Ticks don't just appear in the bush either ,ticks can be anywhere so checking should be done no matter what
  15. From a boarding kennel point of view clients sign that vet treatment must be sought ,costs etc etc. We will try withing reason to fill the needs people want BUT some people want extreme,s so you also need to find a happy middle ground that both parties are happy with & both parties can complete. Not all family/friends are dog savvy & want to do all the extras, after all there doing you a favour & not all understand that doing the exercises incorrectly or not the way we would means they can learn bad habits so this is where i believe what we would do & what we expect others to do must be realistic & simple for them to want to do & complete .
  16. Did the pup have a good mouth to start of with?? Mouths can go with age ,they can also return with age & when there head finishes growing. A cm isn't anything to get excited over & infact is most likely a nice gap on a giant breed where there head doesn't mature until 2/3 yrs . If its a concern then call the breeder first after all its the polite thing to do.
  17. We run boarding kennels & to be honest people do have preconceived ideas of how they dog will & should behave. Many can not deal with the fact the dog didn't miss them in they way they believe it should. We get all sorts of things left & the dogs generally don't care,if they are at the right premise the dogs will adapt & enjoy themselves greatly. We get many dogs that won't eat the treats left by the owners & it isn't because there pining there simply enjoying themselves & often prefer the other food choices . This dog will be staying with other dogs i wouldn't worry about something with your smell on it unless its going to be separate from them. Just take something clean & neutral & YES don't make a fuss beforehand, the dog will already now something is going on when suitcases come out ,it needs to have its normal routine/food & time & when you drop off don't over do it. It only makes it harder for the dog to deal with which is what your main concern is so you need to give the dog every chance to settle for the minder & for the dogs sake
  18. There use to be a few in Perth that where shown, they where often behind me in group & seemed very sensible dogs ,laid back & go with the flow type of attitude
  19. It can be done ,set the rules from day 1.Kids get kids time dogs get dog time . The kids have no reason to act silly if the dogs are separate This is when crate trained dogs become a blessing as you can shut them in a room & be safe from all . Obviously depending on there normal routine ie house dogs etc etc it will be a big change for them especially if the weather is crappy & everyone is house bound I presume you have discussed the dog issue with them ?? * if not i would be bringing it up now so any issues can be sorted sooner than latter .
  20. Not all states have these events so what happens to those who have to fly or drive for days to get to a test day ??
