  1. I think it comes down to wait suits your feet & how much you want to pay & what is practical for showing in. I have bad feet so shoes are very important to me & i have very narrow feet but i will happily spend $200 on good shoes
  2. I gather your looking at a Pharaoh hound club?? I would doubt there would be enough financial members to start especially depending on what activities you wish to run. The breed does have many grp/semi grp clubs that cater for the breed though
  3. Kalgoorlie is either a place people love or hate. I totally loved the place, the community aspect & the wonderful friends we had there. We spent the weekends doing the most amazing things & had the time off my life there. I really miss it. I guess you experienced the 40 plus today
  4. There is no such thing as a no kill shelter . Those shelters will offload problem dogs to others or worse still keep dogs alive that in all fairness should be PTS. Someone has to do the unthinkable & that does mean good healthy dogs being PTS ,heartbreaking yes but that is life The video is reality . Like others i would adopt the dog from what ever place because i now that is the dog for me .
  5. Just hope the US judges can get here
  6. I love my breed so having another isn't an issue. If you have questions about owning the breed again then that is something you all need to decide but you will never replace what you lost your are replacing with a breed that may be special to you & you enjoy being around
  7. In WA just list the show & they can verify in the cats . I have had the occasional one missing & done this with no issues .must have all the details though
  8. You are better showing now whilst a baby than deciding to show when the pup hits the competitive classes. Just because someone else handles it doesn't mean it will then show for you . Showing as a baby will give you a great bonding time in the ring . There would be juniors out there that would help more than adults .
  9. First off be prepared for the flight to maybe arrive late & wait for the dogs to be offloaded sometimes there fast sometimes there very slow. .I would simply offer the food the pup is use to eating per your breeders chart as that is what its stomach is use to,it may be use to bones it may not be but give the wrong food & you will regret it . All my dogs are frequent flyers from pup onwards & not one has messed . As already mentioned don't have everyone going crazy over the pup ,some travel really well some take a time to settle & youare all strangers to the pup the surroundings will be foreign & maybe even the noises . So take it slow the first experience could be a lasting one
  10. Many ask for the ears to be left. The greater majority we board/groom have spaniel ears by the owners request & also due to most not being groomed but just brushed by there owners I groom a few & all want varying things from the ears but the body is easy . A good groomer of Gol;den Retrievers will have no issues doing a Flattie
  11. Are you giving magnesium tablets to assist with muscle spasms??? You may also fin bowen to be very helpful especially for spine issues. It was my old boys best friend . He was on previcox which worked best for him He did react to a number of the meds by over heating & would dig to china & be restless. Any meds he got on an alternate basis to minimize the side effects. Liver issues where a concern but in the end we decided quality in a shorter span was better ,he had spondolyisis . We also did bowen every 3/4 weeks & that was the biggest helper
  12. Yep all ours do zoomies, its there body telling them to have fun. Its usually short & sweet & then they stop. We don't encourage it in the house at all far to dangerous & there is a time & place for it. You won't stop it from happening
  13. I very much doubt grey breeders will send sick dogs to be rehomed most get the green dream ,easy come easy go Those issues are out there ,they where many moons ago when we used 2 of the top racer/trainers as our chiros. Many testicles where the norm nack 20 yrs ago but there answer was it was better anyway because there was less distraction to movement down there ,some removed 1 testicle to stop friction but most had 1 They where actually very interested to see the Show lines Greys didn't have the same issues . But those issues are starting to creep into show lines. We have had 1 with severe thyroid issues. All others where healthy people who lived to 12 plus yrs. Lets face it what goes to Greyhound rescue is only a spit in the ocean to what is out there & never seen
  14. Here is a classic example of one person idea of function
  15. You have the other end of the scale to ,those that have breed solely for working ability to the point you can no longer recognize the breed . As for racing Greys i remember the chiro we used for many years ,we took our Shows greys to her & it was always the talk . She asked on many occasion whether we would like to show some of the dogs that didn.t make the grade as runners & they had bad mouths, prick ears & many faults where they wouldn't meet the breed standard .
  16. We have a few boarders who bring there sin with there dogs,i haven't seen any lay on them & they never feel cool nor inviting to the dogs . They also weigh a tonne & those are the small dog ones would hate to think how much the large dog one weigh.
  17. The breeder can simply show your the current membership card or certainly give you there prefix. There are plenty of Beagle breeders in NSW .I would imagine without looking a good choice on the breed pages on this site or contact the Beagle club of NSW
  18. Should also pint out some of the testing that can be done isn't available in every state either . The vets can bitch all about what should be done but until they also provide the facilities & experienced staff then many breeders are left with the added expense of flying east or if lucky to have a strong bunch of breeders pay towards getting a qualified person over to do a health test day . I flew my dogs east to have a very basic test done that should be available in every state but isn't . Cost well luckily i was there for shows so pre booked but if i didn't show there was a near $1000 exercise just to get a simple test done for 1 dog . Our state use to have the facility at the major teaching school but the brainless idiots never trained other people to do it nor did they bother to repair the equipment. It took them over 6 months to reply to my emails asking over & over when they could do it to be finally told the above . This teaching school also would be the first to complain that breeders aren't testing
  19. There are breeds that have to have certain tests under ANKC requirements. Many other breeds are wanting the same process to happen after new tests coming to light BUT there is also the other side to the story . Testing is a great tool but some people want only certain means of breeding with these tools & one has to be very careful not to go so test crazy that they lose gene pools & create other issues but breeding from only certain results In my breed they have been DNA testing for well over 20 years ,my other breed also has DNA options. Many breeds do not have DNA options or any testing even mentioned on AVA sites or the likes . The greater majority of breeders certainly do test but one can only test what is out there . As testing is becoming more common world wide place like the AHT are developing test to benefit the breeds worldwide but this takes time
  20. Like already mentioned just because there good doesn't mean that is what will be produced or that they area a match for each other . It depends on how much breed type you wish to lose or what breed type you wish to retain. Besides health testing you also need to factor how much to the breed standard you wish to breed to,coat texture etc etc. Many pet people want to buy pups that are what the breed should be not always what people prefer . There are more field breed Cockers around than people think but sadly at present we via the club we belong to are getting far to many emails regarding wanting to rehome or needing assistance with there field breed Cockers (from the same breeders) because there are not the easiest to live with . Many people thought the less coat aspect was a good reason over understanding there not breed to be your avergae Cocker family pet but these breeders also aren' helping in any form just telling them to go out into the field & work them. I think what people need to remember is whilst your dogs might be the best at that sport how much is due to your effort ?Breeding certainly goes along way but by the same token many top OB/agility dogs worldwide are alo rescue or pound puppies with no history just very keen owners Many dogs/breeds can potentially be great at many things but without dedicated owners to cater for those needs then those pups can be hard to live with or a joy .
  21. Okay we board & Groom alot of these & only one is a dog that i could actually live with Many have freaky temps, coat textures area a nightmare. Many have been caught with the "size issue" One was as big as a great dane ,most are Lab sise . Some have hairy front or back ends & the other part smooth (look really weird) . Some are hairy as poodles but still shed . The natures are very different ,there ofetn neither of the breed . The one good one we groom would be what the ideally planned to create but aftre 20 plus years of being in this industry thats a poor number of good versus not what people expected . Nearly all brought from the east sight unseen & got often what they didn't want considering there reasons for going to the expense in the first place. Testing most didn't , alot we deal with have very bad HD ,a number have also bloated (which can happen in either breed ) Mind you it sounds a good thing its coming spayed given there lack of actually ever owning these dogs & this is a classic example why people do spay early
