  1. We always ask before taking a dog in have they had parvo(for day stay procedures),there quarantine maybe fine but the dog had to get into the clinic some how & not all owners seem to realize the issue there dog may have whilst walking around the carpark. If it was a true emergency then we would take the risk but we have back up clinics as an option. I applaud any clinic that is honest about having parvo dogs in & giving the client the option or doing what they feel is best .
  2. Besides the clippers they will also need to buy a good pair of scissors for the feet/face . Nail clippers & ear pluckers. Clippers come with a #10 blade normally so they will also need to buy additional blades . Yes they can cut the dog whether it be with the clippers or scissors & the risk is higher with an untrained dog & nervous groomer. It can be done but people need to be prepared to educate the dog otherwise it is a waste of money buying the gear because the owners give up.We see plenty more that give up . Generally we tell people to get it done professionally at first for 12 months & then if they wish do so from there as the dog has manners & understands the clipper sounds . If this isn't an option then they need to work on there plan on handling the dog on a table first & foremost & training it to the clippers(if it hans't been groomed yet ??) Some go total feral the first time & this can really make or break the experience of being groomed. We tell anyone who wishes to do it themselves to work on a 4 weekly schedule for as long as possible,it is easier to skim over a well maintained coat than clip an over grown dog (this is when injuries may occur if they don't understand the sensitive areas & how to hold clippers & the area)
  3. For many places that would be cheap, for our vet that is expensive . As to feeding Hills thats your choice but i wouldn't bother. We get all our oldies teeth done at 10yrs
  4. We no longer heartworm .We stopped when the companies started to play around to much with products . All our dogs are wormed ,puppies follow our puppy sheet routine & the adults are done but we don't do it as often as some but certainly twice a year or if travelling & feel its in the best interests. Temps play a part & its more the constant day/night temp over a set period
  5. Our dog had the one of the first surgery to re create a tear duct in the 80's. At the time the only specialist able to do it was visiting our state & did it as a teaching op. It worked a treat . We believe hers was due to retained baby teeth . The duct back then was redirect/created to drain through her nose
  6. 4 frames each day would seem an awful lot & i would be concerned about making the dog constipated . What else do you feed ?? That diet alone my big dogs would never keep weight on. Have you asked the breeder about the issues & weight issues ?? It may be something they can pi point via breed knowledge better than others
  7. I have coated breeds & use the cool coats & if used for the purpose they should be they work a treat,
  8. No boarding kennel will take the pup as its underage & not fully vacc so in this scenario there isn't alot of options . We run boarding kennel s& wouldn't take a pup that age . $12 may seem cheap to some but it isn't a boarding kennel . I woud suggest though that the new owners sign a boarding agreement that covers the basics about payment & any vet bills etc etc
  9. Fans & saw dust/shavings Don't fancy the mess from that I would simply do the concrete ,easy to hose & disinfect
  10. Your baby has retained puppy teeth which can be very common. What do you give pup to chew on to help remove those teeth??? If your not giving pup anything to really chew on & don't plan to then you may need to get them out & sooner the better as yes it can affect how the adult teeth grow as there all fighting for space.
  11. We are compulsory night shows in summer so nothing before 6pm except for about 4 country shows which are generally cooler . I have shown at hot shows both here & the east . Here is easier as i have all my gear & live 5 mins from the grounds so can turn up last minute & go home again if required. We can't use generators at our canine grounds(can country) s i have to use deep cycle batteries to run the big fans which is a pain in the arse as there heavy & take days to charge . I have 2 batteries & can run 4 130 watt fans for 8/9 hrs each .cool coats.silver sides, ice. The fans i run one on the floor & then attach the other to the oz trail roof to blow down & works wonderful . I think if your prepared to take all the gear required it can work but you need to access each dog for the occasion .If its hot i certainly don't take many dogs generally 1 or 2 because even though i take the trailer to shows the dogs travel in the car so if its hot its car only anyway i do shudder when i see people who turn up with no form of shade on hot days that is very scary I will often not turn up for very hot shows but if i do then i go with everything but the kitchen sink to ensure the day out is a safe one .
  12. The other popular option for oldies is to board them in kennels & hope they die there or the owners have to do the dirty work & yes we have been in this position on 1 too many occasions. Some don't even go away they just hope the shock will kill them
  13. generally Paps don't wear snoods . But you can easily buy them or make one yourself. Otherwise a stocking works just as good . The dog shop at SACA would sell them
  14. Call me weird but why would anyone be happy for a staff member to take there dogs home overnight without evening knowing there setup?? Did they go home & live in crates.pens or what?? How many dogs did the careers take home ,where they covered by insurance when off the property .
  15. A crate trained dog is your best travelling buddy ,they are a god send for emergencies or any other situation where its safer for the dog to be in a crate . Carry all documents (current vaccs) Update microchip to mobile numbers Carry an ID card of the dog & features if lost You can do your own small animal medical kit Water can be an issue Decide what you are feeding at present & how practical it is & start changing now if need be
  16. highfour pet supplies in Melton are having massive sales on everything. http://www.highfour.com.au/ A grooming table is worth every cent when it comes tou your back . For tools ask your breeder & then buy what they suggest ,you could spend a fortune on useless stuff as for rules depends if the housemate & you are planning to do the same & follow the same rules?? Common sense is your best friend & what is cute now isn't cute in 12 months with many behaviours so decide what the rules are now & get pup into that routine .
  17. Water quality also makes a difference,I find the Perth water very harsh compared to Melb,NSW & Adelaide & that can affect the outcome of a product. The Kelco i have used & found it very gentle on the coats but then i don't use dog products that often
  18. There has been dogs shown with a missing eye but i would never do so personally ,i think there are scars & injuries that are showable & then some that aren't but it comes down to choice, Our show Greys always had scars of some sought they tear open so easily on the simplest of things. Many dogs are shown with scars & the likes . I do now of a beardie & Setter shown with an amputated tail again i wouldn't but the owners where happy to show
  19. he detergent can be drying i only used it on the legs. Bellys some people can make the yellow worse & the drier the coat the more it stains. It is easier to just wash or dunk the pee feathers or areas nightly or every second. Not showing white at present i just use a ice cream container dunk the pee feathers so they don't break, same can be done with whites but when i showed the whites i would wash the area more often just to help it . Prevention is far easier than using all the products under the sun Brill cream is great on pee feathers ,you can oil but some create worse issues . You can simply spray warm water each night to dilute the pee & that works just as well
  20. Isle of Dogs & Plush puppy i have never found any good. Both made the coats dry . For whites i just wash the legs in green dishwashing detergent if bad or velvet soap. Dazzle dog is great & add some white vinegar & works a treat . Most enhancing ones i find leave it dry & you need to clarify more often. Animal house whitening is fairly harsh too & i only used it on the legs if they where truly bad but i prefer to just maintain the coats & not have to go crazy with added stuff.
  21. She will run off because she hasn't been taught otherwise. She has been taught free for all is good & means she can do what she wants & not listen to you . She needs to learn that playing offleash is a privilege & with that comes expectations & manners
  22. Things to consider What you actually want to use it for. I mainly use mine for pushing the gear in so the real light weight filmsy ones won't last long . When pushing some of the cheapies sway/bend & aren't user friendly . We have the 2 light weight ones (ozzie Scales ) & they are excellent & push well with the junk but we also have very pusher friendly grounds. So consider the shows you attend & the grounds you need to deal with . Some are heavy but sometimes the heavy ones do the job best
  23. I think it comes down to wait suits your feet & how much you want to pay & what is practical for showing in. I have bad feet so shoes are very important to me & i have very narrow feet but i will happily spend $200 on good shoes
