Feed dry for over 30 yrs all dogs live a very healthy long life. We deal with alot of dogs in the kennels who are diabetics & it isn't due to the dry but all the crap people feed.Schmackos, pigs ears & the list goes on The current fad we are seeing is people feeding barf but most have no clue what it is ,The buy the cheap stuff.the dogs are severely underweight & so unhealthy looking . There isn't a cheats version but it isn't hard to do it right. The problem is these same people then feed treats that totally counteract the point of barf ^ they don't get it I tried it on one of my dogs & it was a total disaster & wouldn't feed it again unless it suited . . The best for me is what suits that dog & what one feeds as a whole package . People should feed what suits each dog & sometimes it may be something that goes against your ideals. I now die hard barf feeders whose dogs are always sick so im not a believer in it being the best . Yes there are food to avoid or feed in minimal amounts

All the Dachies i was involved with where very social . There a very common breed used in Junior handlers by the younger age group due to there ease . As for offleash they are hunters so i would be more worried about them coming back they can be stubborn but our Dachie agility team did events at royal shows & other public places with no issues . Like many small breeds owners turn them into wusses & spoil them but we board alot of Dachies & all are fine in nature , There tough little critters & often forget there size but they hunt nasty critters so one expects there to be spunk. The Std Longs where used more for water retrieving hence there more gundog like nature. I think there a great breed but as i said any breed can be turned into "issue " breeds . We have boarded 2 Tollers that would eat us given a chance

Depends where the dog is picking them up.Are they in your yard or an area you walk
-
My friends breed dogs used in the assistance programme but they aren't working lines at all . There dogs are used in retrieving trials ,guide dogs & assistance dogs . The Lab club should be able to suggest good working breeders that still have sensible dogs

The hr walk would be the easiest part, the toilet plan is the one to consider the most. If your not wanting to commit to "alot" of toilet runs then a small dog that can be trained to use a pet loo.tray is ideal. If you want bigger then you have a different toilet plan. Consider the hrs you work & how long the dog would need to hang on for a toilet break especially bigger dogs .If your out from 8/6pm for example that s alot of leg crossing. Do you have stairs or lifts to get down to the bottom floor?? Some dogs can freak at either so training in this area is a big consideration otherwise little & easy to carry may be better. I am a person that prefers to think of the worse & then hope for the best so if carrying is the plan early on do a dummy run with something heavy . If dog must share a lift then i would imagine manners will be very important so training a must early on especially for a happy bigger breed. These above issues can also be factored inwith an older dog that may never have experienced either . I handled a Dobe who was terrified of stairs & at a show had to carry it 2 flights up & down ,my worse nightmare. Like many have said commitment will truly make or break your breed & being honest with yourself will make the decisions easy. I mean if your a person who works full time but then like to go out in the evenings or similar then that is added time for hanging on to toilet & getting frustrated looking at the walls

I believe any dogs may be suitable DEPENDING on what activity level you plan to commit to . So the question is What are your plans exercise wise on a daily bases every day of the year & what your are expecting from your dog

Depending on when you arrive head down to Bulla showgrounds & use there fenced area ,its not grass but they can hoon around & be walked on the grass .Only 10 mins away

Your breeder should be your first port of call, always nicer to get to give advice than read it on DOL which they are on . They now there breed the best & what works or doesn't work. We won't feed any beef as that is awful for scratching/over heating . The heater could also be an issue . We haven't had issues with it but we also use other products that suit each dog .

Long Term Foster Housing In Perth, Wa
Dogsfevr replied to Kramerica's topic in General Dog Discussion
I agree with SAS this isn't foster care . What you need to still make clear to any people taking the dog on is what you want out of it. I presume you would still want to visit or take the dog out which can make it hard for the person looking after the dog as they have to resettle deal with it. You would still want a contract as to who is liable for what costs ,expectations & also be prepared for if it not working out looking for another place /home in which case you don't want to dog shoved form house to house. Do you not have any family members that can help ?? -
The most common use is marking houses with dogs better suited for dog fighting . Given the dogs in questions are Mastiff crosses i can understand why your friend is worried. She should also notify local radio stations & even the paper not to give her story or to be known or even what breed(because you don't want them knowing ) she has but a warning to people to be more aware for the ribbons & strange people . People are becoming sicker & sicker these days

I work from home every day

The simple reality is this is life & the OH needs to look at the dogs welfare long term not his & the sooner he allows puppy to blossom in its own world the happy everyone will be because things aren't always fun in 2/3 yrs when the dog is being a pain or OH work schedule changes & he no longer works from home & pups life is turned upside down. Most pups from breeders already understand coping on there own & we stress this to our puppy buyers that continuing the same routine when pup gets home . I now its hard for people to not want to be with pup all the time as its cute but pup has many years ahead of it where most behaviors & coping issues are set up now . You have plenty of time to get pup into a routine but it needs team work & team work means all the humans & the dog .

Friends here with Newfs use a Liberty giant Pupkus make a table that is heavier than the Liberty giant. I have both . You can also make your own easily . Pupkus for example make tables for all sizes priced reasonably as for a spaniel head done to a dog show & vendors sell tables all the time that would suit

Younger Dog Not Wanting To Be Close To The Older Dog
Dogsfevr replied to giraffez's topic in General Dog Discussion
Bullying is subtle & there are times when a dog is accepted & a time when they now to back off. Bindo Posted 19 June 2013 - 06:07 AM They are not the most stoic dogs either and even minor complaints can make them out of sorts. A friend's last week was eating/drinking fine, but from time to time just sitting and shivering. A vet check found some arthritis/inflammation (he is 8)and now on medication is a lot happier. The biggest issue with Minis is how Stoic they are (well they should be) They will still eat even at there sickest & are very hardy dogs .Minis are tough little critters that rarely show signs of ilness so its up to owners to look for signs that stand out . If your concerned see a vet ,Minis can have eye issues & maybe his vision is an issue although it still sounds like the older dog has done something more than once & it knows its safe place . Minis are normally very social creatures both dog & human so something is setting this dog off -
Younger Dog Not Wanting To Be Close To The Older Dog
Dogsfevr replied to giraffez's topic in General Dog Discussion
You posted last year that the older one was being a bully . Chances are its happening again & your not seeing it -
Our first dog shared the ground with our budgie & guinea pigs BUT we where also never gullible to believe they would live peacefully together. The are all animals that can do unplanned things They enjoyed there freedom within safe boundries & always watched or if unable to watch then the dog would be placed away so the other animals could have there time out . I do believe or first dog was very special & we haven't had dogs since that i would happily allow the above to happen & it doesn't worry me

Tactfully Suggesting She Take Her Dog To The Vet...
Dogsfevr replied to dog geek's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
You have made alot of judgements . If some random came up to me i wouldn't be impressed . You have no clue what this dogs history is yet & the owner doesn't have to share there business with you. We had a Greyhound with severe thyroid issues & he was taken out wearing coats & likes because we got feed up with people making judgements & then doing the "your not interested in what i say look". You have informed this person of your concerns its up to them . If some random sent me flowers that would be more than creepy & to stop is weird aswell. -

Pick flights that suit the dog not the humans my dogs are frequent flyers & fly yearly at varying times & the flights booked are for there comfort so early am or late pm,even in winter it can get warm .
-
My guys are frequent flyers . The most important thing is to not make a big fuss when you get pup out of crate. Everything is strange & whilst the humans are excited it sometimes becomes all to much when the humans go crazy with photos & the greetings. There is plenty of time for that part once pup is home & able to get to now everyone & is home. Some pups come out ful of it others a little more cautious but the human role can also play a big part
