We loved our Puppy pre school experience...there were 8 pups, a German Shepherd 2 Labradors, a Boston Terrier, a Cocker/Beagle cross, a German Short Haired Pointer, a very small Papillon and my Maxine. The vet Nurse who ran it was wonderful....she was very much in control of what could have been a chaotic situation....big dogs went off lead with big dogs and small with small. The puppies had a ball...the owners had a ball...and we learned heaps of useful information I have never laughed so much in my life

Thank you all for sharing your greater experience with me...we are back in the lounge with the pup on a short leash and leashed trips outside for the toilet It is very hard to know whether you are doing the right thing , when you haven't done it before.

Hi there. Maxine was desexed on Thursday. She is six months old and 8.4 Kg. When I brought her home, I had her on a short lead inside with short trips outside on lead also. She slept overnight in her soft crate as usual. On Friday, it was pretty much the same routine. Today, she seems to be back to her boisterous self. I managed to distract her with mild "hide and seek" type games and inside on lead time but this arvo, on a usual toilet run, she went crazy zooming arond the back yard, leaping about and generally frolicking. The suture line is dry, not swollen or red (invisible sutures that dissolve) My question is that the vet advised 10 whole days of confinement and keeping her quiet and I am wondering how I can achieve this?.... Do I lock her in the lounge with me for that length of time? Should I ask for sedation for her (or me LOL)? Is the vet just being extra cautious? Help?

OH thank goodness....desexing AFTER 6 months of age is ok...*sweats*

Oh dear....I am planning on doing dog sports...but I am desexing my girl on 10 April...I didn't know they were mutually exclusive :D

Yes Cockerlover (I love them too btw)....Maxine has a "graze" on the skin right near her vagina.....her anal glands are fine and a wee test has been taken for a micro and culture test. The vet has given me some ointment to apply so I hope that this works for her. Thank goodness Maxine is NOT on heat :D How she suffered a "graze" right there is beyond me ...though her Cocker genes have sent her burrowing into dense bushes/undergrowth on occasion...LOL

Maxine is a Cocker Spaniel X Bilbo Baggins, she is quite small. .

Thank you Lucknow ...I do intend taking her to the vet on Monday. She had her first professional grooming (wash/dry and trim) last wednesday......I thought they routinely checked anal glands...should I have asked him if he did them/would do them?

Maxine is 22 weeks old and 9kg and today I noticed a small amount of what looked like blood on her vagina. I don't think the area is swollen (?yet) and I cannot see any evidence of an injury. She seems to be licking herself a lot and also "scooting" on her bum. I was surprised about the latter as she has been dewormed and is still on a monthly program of deworming. Is it possible that she is coming on heat? She is booked in at the Vets to be desexed on the 10 April.

I took Maxine (now 5 and 1/2 months) out rain hail or shine since she was 8 weeks old....so no problems with Toilet training....However...we do have a covered pergola over a garden bed...and that is where it all happens on a rainy day :rolleyes:

and keep the puppy on a lead...no playing till the job is done.
