The people involved in this are very experienced dog people. Of course they are taking food with them and leaving it. Why should they have to say it? It's logical and only an fool wouldn't think of doing it. He's a stray and they are terribly worried about his health and safety. I know this area quite well. You are looking at pretty rough terrain and loads of nasty weedy brush. Hard to sneak up onto a wary animal. We are not talking fenced parkland here. It's a large enough area for him to have more than one hidey hole and a few km's of space to move around. Also the business in the area are industrial or semi-industrial. There are sure to be scraps of food being dumped by the workers there. We also don't know if it is being fed regularly by people working in the area. Few of the businesses are 100% secure so he could be getting in to some of the yards. I really want to have this dog safe and secure. Too many things can go wrong out there, especially once the weather starts warming up.

I can't help with financial support atm as we are facing some very large orthodontist bills, on top of the other ever increasing bills. If you need extra bodies for door knocking or other help please let me know. I'm only about 10 mins away from the area and I would be happy to help the fox/dog catcher if he needs a hand. We know our Gracie was a stray for at least 6 weeks from about the time of Black Saturday. Once she was in our yard and knew she couldn't get out it was like a switch flicked and she knew she was safe and didn't have to be so hyper-vigilant. I'm hoping it will be like that for this white dog. I would really love to know he was safe and warm. Not out in this weather.

I know. Such awful loss. The news I read says it is likely natural causes. It makes you wonder how much the whole stabbing was linked to the physical as well as the mental. Hormones can really affect how you think and see the world. So sorry for the family.

I hope you reported this to the police. If these guys are looking for prey it might help if the police have a prior report with as much identifying information as you can remember. I am glad you are ok. Things like that are very scary.

Just heard from my sister in Brisbane that their new puppy won't have to be put down by the RSPCA. He was adopted by their family a couple of weeks ago and they noticed some knuckling and other strange leg actions, especially when he is tired. From what I read very briefly (because she has been very upset) the RSPCA vet told them he had some horribly painful genetic bone growth disorder and recommended he be returned to the RSPCA. And you can imagine what would happen next ;) Anyway, thankfully she took him to a specialist surgeon and he says "the puppy has carpal flexural deformity or carpal hyperflexion which is tautness of the tendons of the flexor carpi ulnaris muscle. With rest and good quality diet a majority of animals spontaneously recover, in some puppies it is necessary to section the tendons to regain normal posture (a minor procedure). " We are all just rapt. I haven't met him but he sounds like a lovely little fellow and the family has been so upset this week. I am so glad for them. Has anyone had any experience with this? How did you find out and how was it treated?

Article in news.com.au CHARGES against a man who allegedly mutilated Buckley the dog have been dropped by police. A St Albans man in his early 30s faced a minimum of 11 criminal charges after the eight-week-old border collie-staffordshire bull terrier was found with his ears and tail hacked off in a St Albans schoolyard in July last year, the Moonee Valley Leader reports. The charges included torture and aggravated cruelty. Moonee Ponds Sen-Sgt Ian Jones said a brief of evidence recommended charges but there was insufficiant and non-corrobative evidence to lay them. “It would not have stood up in court,” he said. The man had received “psychiatric care” at an undisclosed unit. Police have not released the man’s identity, fearing a “disturbing” backlash against him. The decision is expected to outrage members of a Facebook site dedicated to Buckley, which has attracted more than 210,250 members.

There is a hard road ahead for Jed and her family (furred and otherwise) but I hope she knows there are these wonderful people in DOL who will be standing alongside her as she heals and sets herself back up. Those of us in Victoria know about the devastation involved in the aftermath of fires. I hope she will feel able to ask us for a helping hand when she needs one. There are many here only too happy to help.

I worry about a blind friend of mine. She and her guide dog have nearly been hit a number of times at her local crossing, despite it having lights. People often turn the corner and are only looking at oncoming traffic, not the crossing lights turning red or anyone actually crossing. I see near misses all the time with sighted people who are lucky not to be hit.

That is very reassuring. I was trying to tell the lady on the phone that I knew they were only dogs but could I bring their toys...and a blanket..and could they share a kennel...? I think this is the best solution all round. They will be happy to see us when we pick them up ;)

Thanks folks. I rang the Apple Tree Resort at Chiltern and booked them in. The dropoff and pickup time is convenient and they are on the route. If we are happy with them we can use them again. Thanks to everyone

Toolern Vale sounds great but we need it to be on the direct route. We may be doing this again and hope to not have to leave them longer than necessary due to their separation issues. I'd prefer something close to Albury as best possible scenario. My MIL and her husband are moving to Nth Albury in May and do not have a yard to contain the dogs and are also worried about how their little pom will react to our bigger dogs if we come to stay. :nahnah: This particular visit is to participate in her hubby's induction ceremony; he's a minister so it's a bit special. We do usually like to visit every six months or so but usually do it over a weekend or long weekend if I'm not working. I looked into dog friendly accommodation nearby but one night would cost us $185 I suggested hubby go up by himself (or with our daughter) but he doesn't want to do the drive by himself. So now I am looking into a one night stay at kennels.

Other options are turning out too expensive so can anyone recommend a great kennel somewhere on our route for our sweeties? Both are likely to not be too happy about it but I think we are at the stage where they might just have to get used to the occasional stay. I only want them in overnight Sat to Sunday so do they normally allow Sun pickups?

Apparently the dog was already outside so didn't need rescuing

I've just been told we need to make a trip to a family happening on the weekend of the 15th May. Hubby does not want to drive up and back on the same day. I don't want to leave the dogs overnight. Can anyone recommend a decent place to stay overnight for 2 adults, 1 child aged 8, and two dogs? Alfie is small and no trouble(shih tzu x). Gracie is a larger dog (SHDxkelpie) who has some separation issues that may make kenneling a problem. Both are fully house trained. I would want to have them both inside with us but I'm not sure what to do with them while the event is happening. Thanks!

I thought that with a strong name (like a totem) and all of the DOL healing vibes he just has to pull through. You are a caring person k9angel. How about Kane, Lothair, Bhaltair, Luki or Owen, ? They are all names that mean "fighter". He needs a good strong name :cool:

I got mine today. I asked for the pink camo but got the green, even though I sent a separate email and she confirmed the pink. I'm philosophical. It was great price.

Gracie gets a good quality kibble and when she first came to us as a thin stray I gave her minced chicken frames, which she loved. She is now at her optimum weight and I don't want her putting any more on. I tried her on one of those rolls from the supermarket. Yuck! It made some horrid poos. I tried her on roo and it seemed to be fine initially but within a week or two she seemed to be vomitting it up and it also made her poos very horrid. What else can I try? We can't afford anything too expensive but I wondered if there were some fresh foods around that were also reasonably cost effective.
