I breed miniature smooth dachshunds and feel sure that your puppy is suffering from neglect caused by poor diet , if this is the cause it will take many months of good food to improve and may always have a strange gait, if she is a happy little girl I would give her time. In my last litter November last year my very small dachshunds bitch producted seven puppies and the second last puppy was born with her front legs across her chest and they have stayed that way. I have done many hours of physo on her and taken her to three vets for their opinion, one vet was an authopedic vet all were not confident she would do well. I refused to give up on her and she is now 4 months old, she does pit pat around but is having a lovely life, I really do not feel we have a right to snuff out a life if there is not a very good reason to do this. It is very difficult to get a picture that would show the problem because of her size (she weighs 850 grams ) and is 5 weeks old. The problem is that when she walks her two front feet sit on top of each other which trips her up. I am constantly doing physio on her every day. I have tried to design something that would keep the legs seperated and still enable her to walk but so far have not been successful. Dachie

I have just whelped a very large little of miniature smooth dachshunds and the 2nd last puppy was born with her legs doubled across her chest. The vet says to constantly massage this but he is doubtful that it can be corrected. I have made numerous harneses without success. She is such a gorgeous and very healthy puppy it is such a shame that something cannot be done to correct this. It is her front legs that is affected and she is trying to walk but her front feet sit on top of each other which trips her up. I can move her legs very freely into the correct position but they will not stop there. Has anyone got any suggestions? Dackie
