Hey all.. I was wondering if you can give raw drumsticks and marylands to dogs, I know you can give necks and carcases but I wasn't sure about eh other 2.. And if you can, would you chop them into smaller pieces or just give them whole? I am trying to fatten up my 9month old boxer pup so i thought marylands would be good if they can have them. (I can't give him lamb flaps etc because he has a sensitive stomach)

I get rabbit from my local pet shop (ringwood, vic), unfortunately it's not a chain but the brand of rabbit mince is 'gourmet pet food' $3.95 a kilo. Good stuff!!! Or at the local safeway, roo mince (human stuff) is $4-$5 per kilo depending if you get on sale. My dog is thriving on the rabbit coz it is not so rich!

sometimes you havta use these things (ie to stop ticks killing your dog...) They may not like it but I hardly think it is killing them... prob just dont like the wet feeling on the back or the smell. Just give lotsa treats wth it and he'll be fine!! Pebbles- Do you stop everything that your dog sulks about? coz that means ur dog has a big one up on you...

Im very interested to read this forum coz I was planning on giving my pup the heartworm shot when he was old enough... Now I think I may give that a miss!! I would also like to know what others have paid for a titre test as i have never heard of them before now but they sound like a good idea instead of annual shots..

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone with some experience in using protexin couold tell me what form they buy it in or if it matters? I know it comes in liquid, powder and soluble powder but I didn't know which one to go for? Any advise would be great!!!

My pup was extremely fussy as well, I put chickken or beef stock (no salt kind) in with his dry food to make it more yummy or cooked up sime mince and mixed it when warm with the dry food (Baz liked it better when warm so ate it then!!) Or just try giving him cooked chicken (and the juices) with his food. But the sardines idea sounds really good!! I may have to try that, the smellier the better, right!!!!

Yup thats correct. They didn't meet each other properly for about three weeks tho coz puppy baz was too silly still and old lady sam (kelpie) was very suspicious. They just met thru the flyscreen in this time (coz Baz was indoors at all times unless supervised outside!) Now sam loves baz and thinks he is her boyfriend! But I purposefully made the introduction period as long and dragged out as possible. I think sam being able to get used to Baz's smell over the first month really helped! I was so stressed about my 2 meeting but in the end it worked out fine, just took lotsa patience. And a excersise run/cage/ pen for new pup is the best thing by far so you don't have to trust them together when you arn't there to supervise! That was my best weapon! lol Good luck with your two guys!!!

Glad my experience could be of use! The only advise I have is don't leave them unsupervised together until pup is old enough to look after himself! (And they are both good together) Good luck with the new puppy!!!

hi I had the same thing a few months ago bringing my baby boxer home to a 17yo kelpie cross. I bought a puppy play pen off ebay for about $70 which is an absolute bargin compared to the pet shops. I didn't let my pup go near the kelpie for almost 2months until I was sure he was old enough to have enough sense to at least run away if she tried anything. I kept my pup indoors except supervised visits outside with the 'oldie' safely inside. I think what helped was them being able to smell eachother through the flyscreen and and the time to get used to each other before they actually met without the wire between them. The reason I left it so long was because the kelpie (Sam) notoriously doesn't like other dogs and my boxer (Baz) jumps like anything on other dogs. I have to say they love each other now!

My pup is the same; if there is a choice he wont eat the dry food, only the meat so I mix in my meat really well so the dry food is covered. When they are puppies the most important thing is they get enough nutrients and minerals and that is gotten from the dry food not the raw meat (which is low in minerals). Also try adding a little bit of chicken or beef stock to the dry food to make it more palateble. I would back off the mince a little and only use it to get him to eat the dry food. Good luck, I know how hard it is especially when you think they might be underweight.

My puppy school and vet both reccomonded that you start walking your dog before it is fully vaccinated just not at parks that you know lots of dogs are taken to, because apparently these days more dogs are put down from agression related problem then die from catching something before they are vaccinated. This is because almost all dogs are vaccinated these days and the earlier they are introduced to sights and sounds the more sound the dog will be and less likely to grow up nervous.

I know you can buy apple cider vinegar at horse stores and stock feed shops. I think clear should be ok, I used to feed it to my horse but I can't remember what it looked like; I think it was brown but clear... Its good for joint as well.

Hey I was wondering if there were any obedience or agility trials on over the christmas period especially within an hour and half of melbourne? I want to take my 5 month old pup to check it out and 'soak up the atmosphere' but of course since i am only planning on watching I dont want to drive forever to get to them. If anyone knows of any running soon I'd appreciate it! We are both very eager and cant wait till we are old enough to compete ourselves!!!

Thanks for that, I did actually catch him in the act and told him off; he hasn't done it since so I'm very happy!

Getting A Pup And All The Obedience Clubs Are Closing!
kim21 replied to JulesP's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hey I am exactly the same except I got my pup in sept which gave me two months at least. Croydon obedience club does prepuppy school over xmas i am pretty sure and it is 4weeks which have been excellent for my pup and all the pups in the class. I defenitaly recommend it even though normal sunday classes dont start back till next feb. it has a website if you want to look up details -
My pup had it too although his was a bacteria infection in his tummy from a bad batch of meat from dodgy petshop, chicken and rice was all he ate for about 3weeks, then I got sick of making it for him and now he is on a fairly normal diet. Although I havta say that any little thing will set him off with the runs again, different food, etc and ssometimes I dont even know why. Often I think he gets it when he is out (dog school, walks) because he is excited. Other than that he is healthy and the vet isn't worried. Make sure you worm him because a worm infestation can cause the runs too. Kim21

hi, My 5month old boxer has started to poo on the deck and pathways outside. I don't know how to stop him doing this as i obviously cannot be out there all the time to stop him. Is there something I can spray on the deck that will prevent this or any other ideas? He is house trained inside but doesnt seem to get the concept of 'going' on the grass (even though that is all we have ever allowed him to 'go' on in the past when training him) thanks Kim21
