Wdc Of Qld Herding Trial
fidelis Border Collies replied to wylie's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Cathy It wasn't run by the WDC of Qld that is next week. The trial at Durack last night was run by the CCCQ Herding Sub Committee to raise money to develop Durack as a herding Venue. Turned out alot bigger then we expected and working from 6am to 9pm then having to go back this morning to clean up and pick up the gates. Made it a very trying day then had to go to the restricted Border Collie Club of Qld Agility trial tonight to help. Thankfully we had enough people there so i didn't have to stay to long. But very tired and wish I didn't have to go to work tomorrow and will be spending 2-3 hours to night trying to get the database ready to start burning tomorrow night. Had two good weekends of herding with the following titles gained Last Weekend Aust Ch Fidelis Moonlighting HSAd HIAs Intermediate A Course Sheep Title Fidelis Mad About Ewe HSAs Finsihed her Herding Started A Course Sheep Title along with 3 High in Trials Serreno Bingo HIC Instinct Certificate Wooderson's Meg HIC Instinct Certificate Perrioak Rebel With A Cause HIC Instinct Certificate Yesterday Aust Ch & Amer ROM Ch Talquah Buster Buckhavan CDX ADX JDX PT Pre-Trial Title this was extra special for me as Buster will be 13 early next year. Dave makes the most amzing sounds when he whistles . people are always asking him what sort of whistle he uses??? he doesn't use one its amazing Tracey -

Great stuff Denise its nice when you can leave it too the dog. Specially when they can't hear you. I have taken to the Whistle for my stop, really got fed up with yelling and screaming for a stop. And I know when its windy etc a whixtle is alot easier for the dog to hear. 800 metres thats an awesome Cast I think most times if you can get that decent Cast and a nice stop then the rest will fall into place. I still have a few issues with Abigail flattening out at the top and going in too sharp then she over shots the stop. Been told to shorten my cast again and send her out slingshot sideways and get up her if she comes in too quick. will give it a go tonight. Let us know how you go with your cast at Cressy Tracey -

Thanks Denise I must agree with you there Dave loves strong eyed dogs but he has told me a number of times that most 3 sheep trialers do not like Strong eyed dogs because as you say its had to stop them from clapping. Dave loves Ding she is very strong eyed and as Dave says it all comes down to how you train them. loose eyed, medium eyed and strong eyed dogs all have to be trained differently and depending on the trainer to what they like. and what sort of success they have a strong eyed dogs can be very frustrating to work with but if you get thru to them can make a magificent working dog. Abigail has about the perfect amount of eye for me as a pure novice but i can see how it would be hard for me if she had a lot of stong eye. Tracey -

I have seen this at 3 sheep trials where there is a huge draw back to the flock but that is the way you need to move the sheep so the dog controls the sheep by going backwards. the sheep is walking towards the dog and the dog gives ground but is still in control and stopping the sheep from bolting back to the flock, when the sheep are required to stop or change the direction the dog puts on more pressure and doesn't give ground. you are braver then me I need to do a bit more herding to get my confidence up and my handling skills but dave reckons my main problem is not having stock Sense. Which will not come untill I do alot more stock handling. I hope to be able to 3 sheep Abigail next year but depends if I can get her to stop at 12 oclock. Dave is running one of my Fluffy town dogs in 3 sheep and although she has no style and just does what she is asked. I am pretty proud of her as at the Toowooomba Royal she got the sheep to the pen. Denise at the Supreme last week after the first morning session where most of the sheep with Sheep/Kangaroo Crosses. I think 80% of the 1st runs the sheep just darted back and jumped the fence. The Judge got the dog that hadn't scored in the morning to bring all the sheep out at lunch time and they had 3 mobs of sheep total number 205 and a few dogs worked them for 3o minutes taking them around the obstacles. As the judge said what does it prove having sheep run after run jumping the fences. Doesn't look good for spectators and the Aug Jimboomba trial attracts large crowds. The runs after lunch were more in keeping with what you would expect still not easy sheep but not so inclined to jump the fence. The only downer was Bing who is working brillantly had one of the earlier sessions so no score :D Tracey -

Greg Dave's son was driving to my place along Chambers Flat Road a few months ago and saw a roo which had been hit by a car it was in pain with its eye hanging out and a very broken Leg. Greg raced home and got Dave and went back and Dave put it out of its misery. Why the person who hit it left it is beyond me. it was in the morning light and the roo was still on the road. Makes you wonder doesn't it Tracey

I just have to say "That'll Do" and she will come back even if she is off full pelt. Here are some photos of her http://home.iprimus.com.au/fidelis4bcs/Fid...s/slide0012.htm She is showing more and more eye but i don't think she will ever show as much as trim, she has some of that show Blood in her remember ;) Tracey -

Sounds Great Vicki I only ever get to practise at night and now that i am trying to do some distance work with Abigail its getting more and more interesting. Still having problems stopping her she just never stays still, as soon as she stops she starts creeping and if i take my eyes off her for 1 sec she moves. She stops perfectly for Dave which really upsets me. ;) KEEP TELLING HER YOU ARE MY DOG do as i say. She is coming along nively thou Tracey Love the photos of Trim. Trim and Abigail are Half sisters arn't they??? -

WALLY2020 I have show border Collies / Showxworking Border Collies and pure working border Collies (Well no my partner has pure working Border Collies. I am involved with Conformation Showing and Herding I used to do obedience and agility but my new love Herding doesn't give me any time to do it all so i decided to give obedience and agility away and concentrate on herding while i still show my show dogs. I have one show dog that is currently competing in 3 sheep trialing as well as Kennel club herding which my partner has trained and is running (Video of Cybil at Toowoomba Royal trialing in 3 sheep http://www.youtube.com/?v=8IS1U3Sxi_M .I have a young bitch up and coming and I hope to 3 sheep trail her next year. She is currently competing in A Course Sheep and Ducks Started Level as well as B Course Sheep and Ducks Started level. She has 2/3 for Started A Course Sheep 1/3 B Course Sheep 1/3 B Course Ducks. My main problem with her is getting her to slow down but is starting to show some eye and doing intermediate work on sheep at the moment. I also have a number of young dogs coming thru (Video of Young Sally http://www.youtube.com/?v=gn5UG7MHLVs http://www.youtube.com/?v=zYex8hySuE8 Tracey Fidelis Border Collies -

Well thats an interesting point. I don't know yet if i can't find a home where she will work as in performance or herding then I will have to keep her. Problem is that will mean i will have 3 desexed dogs at home which will most likely put a stop to my breeding program. I think I already have the council checking me out Tracey -

Thanks ML Its getting real hard to keep her locked up when she knows we are working the other dogs she screams blue murder. But I am amazed such a young dog can work like she does. Tracey -
this is our newest addition to our family Sally. She got out one day while Dave was giving a lesson and just went to head and started rounding up the sheep. She wont take an c..p from the sheep either. I took this video just as she was finishing, she had just spent 5 minutes rounding the sheep up and i rush in to get the video and missed it all. She is starting to show some eye so will be intertesting to see how she goes. http://www.youtube.com/?v=xXBfrJQb4iY Tracey
