  1. Yes there is the Qld Herding Association if you email Laurelle at [email protected] she can give you all the information Tracey
  2. I have a litter of puppies at home at the moment and although it is a show litter I have 3 bitches picked out which I consider are suitable to be shown at this age and will be putting them on ducks this week (Ducks in a small round pen with in a large round yard) and determine which ones i run on. Can't put any commands on 7 week old pups but you can see which ones are free moving and keen, the ones that will be too sticky and some that may not be interested. Once I work out which pups I will run on they will get this 3-4 times a week I like the round yard concept as it also patterns the pups at this age to form the arc I want in my dogs. Wont do any formal training till much later but this will keep the interest up and start the whole process alot sooner. I will also be introducing driving into my training alot earlier then I have done before. Tracey

  6. Hi Due to popular demand I have talked Colin into coming up again this year his advance Clinic last year was well attended and I have had people badgering me to get the info up so they can come before all the spots are books . This will be an advance clinic for dogs that are working at Started level and above, the dog must have a reasonably good stop and is starting to know sides. (Even if you are not competing at Started level but your dog has a stop and maybe sides this clinic is for you) We will be covering alot of the stuff we did in the 1st & 2nd clinic and also dealing with how to work obstacles and outruns/Casts, Shedding, Penning etc Dates 5th 6th 7th May 2008 Limited to 10 People only (If you choose to run 2 dogs each dog will get the time divided between them) Please remember Colin's method teaches the handler to train their dog, anyone can go out handler your dog make it look good but Colin likes to go home knowing people are able to carry on with their training themselves. So its best to concentrate on one dog for the clinic. Preference will be given to people doing all three days. Price will be $175 for the 3 days which includes Lunch, Stock fee and afternoon and Morning Tea Money is required by 14th March 2008 so that I can book Colin’s airfare (Please make Chqs out to Border Collie Club of Qld) If interested please let me know as numbers are limited email [email protected] Tracey
  7. Well we had the first meeting of the Queensland Herding Association last night and People that are committed to herding attended and took on rolls to make the club work and get it up and running. I would like to invite people to join the club so we can get the club working towards providing suitable sheep for all breeds to work in the Brisbane Metropolitan Area. The only way we can get the sheep used to all the herding breeds is for these dogs to work the sheep. The yahoo email list web site link is below but it is only taking financial Members of the club. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/QldHerdingAssociation/ the list will be used to inform members when activities and training days are on and any other information the Members will need to know about. This is a club where anyone with any of the herding breeds can get involved and get the training and sheep time we badly need in Brisbane. We promote all people involved in herding and are happy to promote other facilities and trainers to ensure the Herding people of Qld get the best possible help and facilities and stock available. So if you are keen on Herding you need to make that move and get involved or it wont happen. If anyone needs a membership form you can email me at [email protected] Tracey
  8. Yes I am proud to Say Abigail has become the first Herding Champion in Australia and is very close to becoming a Verstile Herding Champion VHCH she has her High in Trial from the Advanced Class in B Course so only needs 4 more passes over 75 to become a VHCH. I also have another dog Bell who is also very close to her HCH I am hoping she will be the first Dual Herding Champion as she also has her CH and is a Best in Show winner. But those HIT are hard to get from the Advanced Class we can only hope Tracey
  9. Hi Everyone, The CCCQ Herding Sub-Committee is starting off the Herding Events for 2008 by holding an information night. The main focus of this night is to introduce the new Rules and Regulations for Herding, which came into force at the beginning of this year. This will be of interest to anyone who judges, organises, helps out and competes in herding events. The details are - Where - Durack Judges Training room When - 7.00 p.m., Friday 08/02/08. The evening will be introduced by Skeeta Ryan, chair of the CCCQ Herding Sub-Committee. The speaker will be Tracey Lamb. Tracey was the Qld. representative on the Rules Review Committee and was also on the Working Party on the Championship Rules. (Also, the Rules Review Committee was chaired by Skeeta). There will be some time for discussion and explanation. We would like the trainee judges to stay behind at the end for a few minutes to introduce their training program for the year. For any questions about this night, please contact Skeeta or myself. Regards, Peter
  10. Well its now Official got a call from the CCCQ to say Abigail's HCH has been approved but because its the first one in Australia the Computer has printed it behind her name not in front so they will send the Certificate out when they have this fixed. But I am still pretty excited A Friend Came over and took some great shots of the dogs which I will put up when she has finished working on them but she sent me a few which I love. and heres one with her Mate Gunnar cooling off after a training session We work these two dogs together Abigail and myself are down one end of the Paddock and Lisa and Gunnar are at the other end, we take turns sending our dog picking the sheep and bringing them down the paddock. then when they are down the paddock I call abigial off and Lisa sends Gunnar. We get alot more training in with out always having to walk back down a long paddock. Looking forward to the herding Season just wished it would stop raining so i can get some training in at nite after work Tracey
  11. Glad you enjoyed your first taste, will be Interesting to see if she remembers anything Next week. I was impressed with her when she first went out most novice dogs just go straight in on the sheep and she went to the outside and arced around naturally, so i hope she keeps that up. Tracey
  12. Sorry about the date change I am not sure depends if I can get enouigh interest, the more advanced Clinic in May i have a lot of interest and places should fill up fast once i get sorted and work out the details. But if i can get 10 people i am sure colin would come up again. Although its hard as he has most states want him to come. Tracey
  13. Colin Webster has agreed to come up again 8th and 9th March for a beginners Clinic this will cover the basics of his method which we have found works with all breeds. It’s a safe way to start even the most full on dogs , is safe for Sheep and handler and a great way for Novice Handlers to learn the essential foundations of Herding. If you are interested in attending cost is $150.00 for both days which includes Lunch and Stock fee. Because of the nature of this method we will only take people that can do the both days as we have found in the pass to really get any results you need to do both days to cover all that is required. At this stage the Clinic will either be a Durack or Chambers Flat and start time will be 8am. All herding Breeds are welcome Money is required by 1st Feb 2008 to Secure one of the 10 spots available. 14. Thanks Guys Its been an enjoyable ride and I love seeing the dogs do whast they were bred to do. Just got to get the others going just as well. Although unbeknowns to me I have had a super star in my mist for a few years. Rebel has turned out to be most likely my best hearding dog and to think I nearly sold him as i though he really needed to go to a show home Tracey
  15. It is with Great Pleasure that I annouce Abigail has obtained her Herding Championship I have been into Brisbane this morning to apply for her Championship so pending AKC Approval she will be the First Herding Champion in Australia. Abigail is one of only a handful of dogs that has been running in the Advanced Level through out Australia in 2006 & 2007 . She has competed in Vic, NSW, QLD and TAS and is consistently placed where ever she trials. Some of her better runs has been where she has NQ'd and these are normally the runs where she times out and are the runs I remember the most. She has had to cope with a Novice handler and her natural talent has been what has achieved the results she has. In recent months I have realized there has been a big hole in her training as I have gained more Knowledge from some of the more experienced people in this sport that have helped me out, namely Colin Webster and Lisa Davis. We are working to fix these holes and I hope for the people that know Abigail you will see a great improvement in the way she works in 2008. Having said that she has made me proud this lovely bitch is also Main Register and from a Mix of my Foundation Show Dog Lacy (Aust CH & Amer ROM Ch Shallstar Traced Inlace CD AD PT) and my Scottish ISDS Dog Astra Lad (Imp Scot) HSAsd HSBd. I didn't expect to get much from my first cross in my Working Breeding Program but Abigail has exceeded my wildest expectations. Abigail is still a baby in Herding terms not 4 years old yet so she has along future in Herding we hope to be able to set up some field trails in the near future and train towards ISDS Type courses where I feel she will excel. Abigail has proven she is a versatile dog running A & B Courses on Sheep & Ducks although if she had a choose I know she would pick Sheep any day she still does a great job once she locks on to the ducks. Abigail is owner, breeder, handled. Her titles to date include 2005 she gained Her PT and HSAs 2006 she gained her HSAd with a High In Trial HSBs with a High in Trial HSBd with a High in Trial HIAs with a High & Reserve High In Trial HXAs with 2 High in Trials and 2 Reserve High in Trials 2007 She gained her HIAs with two Reserve High in Trial, HIBs with a Reserve High in Trial, HIBd with a HIT HXBd with two High in Trials, HXAd with a HIT 2008 she has Gained HCH Herding Championship Title with 2 High In Trials 2 Reserve High in Trials 6 1st Places and So far 11 scores over 75/100 Abigail has already gained her High in Trial on B Course Ducks so is well on her way to getting her VHCH (Versatile Herding Championship Title ) which will hope to finish in 2008. 16. Hum goals for 2008 Well 2007 was a pretty good year we got 18 herding titles between 5 dogs plus 5 HIC's which I don't consider a Title. So in 2008 I would like to get all the dogs working consistantly and smoothly without unsettling the sheep Abigail to gain her Herding Championship, and to finish her HXBs Title and have a good go at her VHCH (Versatile Herding Championship) she only needs 5 passes over 70 in HXBd. Bell to Finish her HXBsd and have a good go at her Herding Championship Lad to finish all his Intermediate titles Panda to gain her test titles and start trailing hope to get her up to Intermediate Rebel hope to get him thru his Intermediate Titles on A & B on Sheep and Ducks Trim same as Rebel she needs one more pass for her HSAs Tweed will finsh his PT then will train him ready to trail in 2009 Pearl same as Tweed So that should keep me out of Trouble also have my cats to show. And I should have 2 dogs ready to trail in 2009 Tracey Fidelis Border Collies Fidelis Mad About Ewe HXAsd HXBd HIBs Aust Ch Fidelis Moonlighting HXAsd HIBsd Astra Lad HSAsd HSBd Perrioak Rebel With A Cause HSAsd Sarasota Tried for Ewe PT Superfine of Summerton Park HIC Fidelis Black Pearl
  17. If anyone would like a copy of the new herding rules that become effective from the 1st Jan 2008 please email me [email protected] for a copy, as all have been approved for general distribution Tracey
  18. You also need to realise a Border Collie has a double coat for a reason it insulates the dog against the cold as well as the heat. I have found dogs with no undercoat are more effected by the heat then a dog with a correct double coat. I have clipped one of my older dogs 12 years old because she doesn't like to be brush but the coat grew back a yucky brown colour and was curly and its stayed curly. Never again I would never ever clip a border collie again, just get a stripping knife and strip most of the bulk out of the coat if you want a clipped dog go get yourself a short coated dog. Tracey
  19. I was wondering if anyone using out and About Pet foods and if so do you have her contact number Thanks Tracey
  20. More points have been allocated to the pen in B Course I think from memory its worth 15 points now instead of 10 Tracey
  21. you need one pass in HIC , if you want you can do your HT or can decide to go straight to PT. this is for more experience dogs to skip this section but still available for Novice dogs and handlers to get that first Herding title Tracey
  22. Kristen your State rep should have got a copy of the new rules we were all sent them a while ago and I remember her email asking if someone could send her one. I got mine sent to me as I represented Queensland in the rules review. The new rules should be available soon I will check to see when they will be going on line Tracey
