*sheepishly raises hand and admits to taking forever to get out of car without dog dragging me across the field to enthusiastically greet Aidan*

Squeeeeeeee!! He's divine.

Cool! I'm learning heaps today.

OK. I just wondered why they were lumped in with the 'dog fighting' breeds.
-
Are people (and I use the term loosely) using the livestock guardian breeds for dog fighting, or are they employed as guard dogs?

65 cm at the wither? Something long legged then. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say lab cross bull arab type. That would explain the white chest, the longer legs, the ears and the very regal chops. Cutie!

I would also think that someone who couldn't keep there temper was a pretty poor animal trainer. That could just be me though.

I thought we were talking about dogs that pulled on the lead BB not aggressive dogs (which may require a different approach entirely)? Lanabanana: You could be talking about my dog. She is never aggressive and I don't have to worry about her attacking anyone dog or person, but she does have a strong prey drive. We practiced in the yard (with treats or aversives to let her know what was expected). Then we practiced in and out of the gate, then we practiced in the front yard, and then the driveway etc. So she is learning to apply what she knows to lots of different locations. And this is ongoing. I have to teach her how to behave in each different location we go to because she just gets so excited. Other dogs....well I won't give advice on this one because I haven't had to deal with aggression at all. We do attend an obedience class weekly that allows us to work near other dogs as a distraction. Do you think your dog reacts because it is on lead especially since other dogs arennn't? I would think that this would be intimidating for some dogs (they might feel trapped?).

Like Cesar Millan? My dog will still bolt like a startled chook whether she comes off the head collar, martingale or prong. How does which training tool you use change how the dog will react when you take it off?

I thought the same thing Aidan - but as I haven't solved my own issues yet I didn't like to say anything.

How would I go about that BB? Stopping her putting her nose to the ground? It is one of many triggers for her. She will pull whether or not her nose is to the ground. It is just habit for her now, and that is what is hard to break. It is very disheartening to have been struggling for over a year when people tell you it is so easy to fix and should only take 2 weeks. My timing is not perfect. My dog is very strong and pays little attention to corrections. Meanwhile she is overexcited and silly because she isn't walked enough due to it being such a chore. Neither of us gets much exercise when we are stopping all the time to correct, or taking one step at a time, or clicking and treating, or turning 180 degrees every few steps. It's frustrating.

I'm in Hobart sas.

I have a chronic puller too. It is a huge pain. I have been working with her solidly for the last year or so, and she is better. Not cured, but better. I tried a prong and training program as suggested and it worked fine as long as she had the prong on. I know......it is my training, not her that made it work that way, but I am the one who trains her, so she is stuck with me. We moved onto a trainer with more positive methods and it really helped. But Willow will still pull and needs constant reminding. She is strong and just stubborn about it. She gets all excited and puts her nose to the ground and off she goes. She pulled me off my feet on Sunday . It is exhausting. She has been confined due to an injury so is super excited atm, so I'm hoping once we get back to regular walks she will improve again. I think it about finding the method that suits both you and your dog and then sticking with it. I won't recommend one method over another because I don't know either of you. Clicker training is good, but I struggle to manage a clicker, a treat bag and an unruly dog. Maybe look into a walking belt if you want to go down this track.

Women Injured And Animals Killed In Overnight Fires (caboolture Qld)

Just too sad I'm sending all my healing thoughts Jed's way -
I wish we could. We have a steep acre block that slopes up from the back of the house. It is landscaped with BIG rocks and has a couple of sets of wide rock steps for access to the lawn etc. I can get her to a patch of grass or garden without too many steps, but can't just let her go herself.

The vet thinks it is either a broken or badly sprained toe. We have been sent home for a couple of days rest with pain killers and anti inflammatories to see how much the swelling goes down before we decide whether an x-ray is necessary. It is a weight bearing toe, so the vet is talking about possibly splinting it if it is broken - does anyone have any experience with that? Willow is still pretty sore and is keeping pretty quiet (for her). I have her shut in the house where she has been happy to sleep quietly most of the day so far. But we are having a toileting issue. She won't go is I am watching and she really needs to stay on lead in our yard because otherwise she will run up the stairs (not allowed). Any suggestions? My idea is to just wait until she is absolutely busting and then try. She hasn't been yet, so that's coming up on 20 hours. Surely she must need to go?

I have made an appointment at the vet for later this afternoon. The toe is now going black and is swollen compared to this morning. I hope it isn't broken

And This Is Why She Gets Away With Murder...

Sigh....perfect... -
So on Saturday evening Willow got up and went to run out the sliding door onto the deck as usual. As she ran through the doorway she clipped her back foot on the lower track of the door. Going by the sound she hit it very hard (I heard the sound of claws on aluminium). It obviously hurt, and she held the foot up straight away. I have had a careful look and the only thing that seems wrong is that her nail on her second toe is a slightly different shape. I had a feel and a pull and it is still firmly attached. She won't tolerate any pressure at all on the pad of her toe. Toe is straight, not swollen, no broken skin, no obvious bruising, no splits or bleeding of the nail. She is still hopping today. What to do? She is very reluctant to move at all today (she seems sore from hopping around). Is there anything the vet can do for an injury like this or is it just a "keep her quiet and give her time" type thing?

So if the cop was shooting radar is there any chance that the dog could hear it? I think it can produce harmonics in a lower frequency?

I'm so sorry for your loss. My thoughts go out to you and your family as you mourn the loss of your grandad.
