  1. Hi newnewf, I met your beautiful Turtle yesterday and after following this thread let me tell you I think he is beautiful. He was sooooo well behaved, so much so that my daughter totally fell in love with him and swears he is the dog for her. Underdog are fantastic, Tamara is helping us out with Diesel & she'll get on top of Turtle too! Wishing you both a very merry Christmas and I will stay tuned here for more on the lovely Turtle!
  2. Thank you. Need to go and get some more dog food so will try to get ACV there and try 20ml on his food. Thank you for the amount Chloebear!
  3. I don't think our 15 week old golden even chews - food goes down like a vaccum cleaner Wouldn't matter if it were dry or mince or veggies alone. If it's in the bowl it's gone If you offered him a bowl of veggies and a bowl of dry I can guarantee you he would eat both - probably starting with his dry eagle pack then to veggies! The beautiful boy is a major eating machine
  4. When we bought home our golden retriever were told 1/2 - 3/4 cup dried food (Eagle Pack) three times a day. Plus a tablespoon of yoghurt or cottage cheese added to two meals. It was also suggested 1/3 can sardines in springwater every now and then and I add a shake of garlic powder to repel fleas. Try a doggy kiss with sardines, yoghurt and garlic powder to get a slow mover out of bed in the morning. Works wonders. Treats suggested were cheese, euk puppy biscuits, chicken etc. 1 egg per week from 10 weeks onwards and a bone every week. Fresh veggies (steamed) thrown in to the mix too. That's the way I have gone and Diesel now 13 weeks is going along great guns. You should always want to be able to see a waist - not just a barrel. Hope this was of some help! Everyone will have different suggestions however the breeder is happy with how our boy looks so I must be going along well!
  5. How much are you going to add.....hadn't thought of trying it on food. Diesel wont drink it in his water? Sorry but had to ask!
  6. My 13 week pup was also barking whilst I was making his dinner, breakfast lunch at 9-10 weeks old. If the bowl was there he would bark! I ignored him, completed making his dinner and would then walk away without looking at him. If the barking stopped (and by then I was in another room) he would usually have followed me (not barking then) I would go and get his food and he would be fed. I often would get myself a piece of food so he followed me to the other room in dismay - my bowl is there and now she's eating! Put him in his place in the pack very quickly. This took 3 days and now he dare not bark otherwise 10 mins passes before he eats. Tough but necessary. Sorry rather long winded but hope you get my drift!
  7. Five weeks ago I bought home a golden pup to our home where we have a 3yo Pom X. We were told all sorts of different ways to introduce them. We ended up bringing Diesel (new) into the house first placing him on hubbys lap, let Rusty (old) in and watched the reaction. Within 2 minutes they were both on the floor rolling around going nuts. Five weeks later nothing has changed. I think it is really a case of watching their body language, making sure the older dog is fed first & is given plently of love etc. Only you will know the temperment of your older dog and whether he will take the continual play fighting a puppy dishes out. Be prepared for the odd puppy cry and growl as the older dog puts the pup in his place in your families pack. I do understand that we have been very lucky and it is fantastic that you have 5 full weeks before you leave them with each other - by then all should be well. Have fun!

    Puppy Teeth

My golden is not loosing his front baby teeth yet but he has lots of new back teeth bursting through. The front gums are red and a little swollen so I am guessing not long to go for them. He is 12 weeks (3months) old. My GSD lost her baby teeth at 6months so I am also guessing you are right on track!! Plenty of bones - cool from the fridge were helpful and cuts down on the chewing.
