  1. Don't feel too bad RuralPug... he is actually a Borzoi x Afghan
  2. Borzoi (actually borzoi x) --> <-- whippet ^ pug ~ I can't even tell the difference
  3. It never ends does it.... but we happily do it regardless :D Just a few things: - bought a king size bed (I live alone) so my dogs had more room on the bed. It's funny no matter how uncomfortable I am or how little of the blanket I have I will still not move the dogs, as long as they are comfortable. - hired a handy man to build a ramp because my old man had trouble with stairs - making the two hour round trip each week to take my old man to the chiropractor - permanently given up my seat on the lounge so the dogs have more room to stretch out. Did have a beanbag until they seconded that too. - organise a day off work when the lawnmower man comes over so the dogs can come inside and not have to listen to the loud noise of the mower. - have multiple heaters in Winter so we can all share And probably the 2 most 'out there' things: - traded in my dream car (V8 ute) for a more practical 4WD because the whippets are not 'back of the ute' type of dogs - refused to go to hospital when I had pnuemonia... saying to the doctor as he was calling for an ambulance "Sorry, I have to get home to my dogs now"
  4. I always have a soft spot for the oldies... the repay you so much in pure love and loyalty during their short time left. Sorry if I missed it, what breed is he?
  5. I definately hear you! Try that at Whippet warp speed and it is close your eyes and look away material! I'm not concerned about their "racetrack"or running into things but I've had many a trip to the vet for rips and tears as a result. Generally Ice hides behind the shed / car / bush lying in wait til Indi zooms pass and Ice will jump out in surprise and cut him off. Apparently it's all very fun but its during this as Ice jumps out that a tooth has snagged Indi and the skin just rips as he keeps running! I cringe when the zoomies start and nearly hold my breath until it's all over - then I call them over to get a check over looking for cuts/nicks/scratches etc. ETA - never worried about poor Pig (pug) always bringing up the rear, little man easily gets lapped several times. No great concern there even at his "warp speed"
  6. The ones I use are made by "Best Care" - I use the 2 x 2, however, the also make the 4 x 2s. Straight from the box (2x2), Ingredients: wholegrain cereal and cereal by-products, meat and meat byproducts (derived from beef and/or lamb and/or chicken), tallow, dicalcium phosphate, garlic powder, salt natural flavouring, emulsifier, natural colour, preservatives and antioxidants. Crude protein 12% Crude fibre 5% Crude fat 3% min Salt 1% metabolic Energy 76kcal per 25g biscuits I only use them as a treat, and my guys love them - whippets and pug man. They thoroughly chew them and have no problems with digestion etc, even Pig (the pug) chews them down albeit a bit slower than the others.
  7. NNOOOOOOOOOOO! Sadly, I can no longer make it. I even turned down an overtime shift at work just so I could make it. I was really looking forward to it, not so much for my whippies but just purely for the chance to finally meet some lovely DOLers face-to-face. My latest rescue, a little 9 month old whip is arriving on Friday afternoon so would like to spend the weekend settling her in. Have a great time everybody, pics MUST be posted!
  8. Can I please come too... with the whippies of course and 'Pig' (my ring-in Pug).... I can bring the clam pool! I work 3 out 4 weekends and the 12th just happens to be my one weekend off
  9. I'll be there, for my first time. I'll be the one with the lost look on my face! Not sure how my boys will go... is that OK?
  10. What a beautiful girl, my heart is with you CDM. My Emma will find her for you and they can run free together
  11. To my most beautiful Emma girl who passed away this morning. You have been my best friend for 12 years, my big girl. I will love you forever.
  12. My dogs only enjoy it when I'm running around the backyard dragging it along behind me ..... which defeats the whole purpose of "home alone"
  13. I also rescued a single male whippet puppy when he was about 4 months old who suffered severe seperation anxiety... luckily I had very understanding neighbours. Like Stormy, I got a second whippet, an older female, as company for him. Whippets are such affectionate dogs and get extremely attached to their humans so do need company. I found my female whippet took on a mothering role and really calmed the puppy whilst I was gone. As you mentioned you don't want to get another dog just to fix her, have you thought about short-term caring or maybe fostering another dog. It may be a good opportunity to test the situation before committing to a second dog yourself.
