  1. I'm no expert (tonight is night number 3 ), but we bought a large crate for our new lab puppy and we've blocked of half of it which seems to work really well. So far no accidents in her crate We used a piece of compost fencing that we got at the hardware shop, and we've cable-tied it inside the crate so she can't knock the barrier over. As she gets bigger we'll slowly move it across until it can be removed altogether. Currently she's got a space that's about twice the area she takes up when she's sprawled out... and she loves it!
  2. Hi CocoSonni! I know people on here can seem abrupt, condascending and negative at first (I joined this forum a year ago and was really offended by others' opinions, so I know how you feel!) but please please please listen to their advice. These people have become a godsend to me over the last 12 months and I think I owe it to them that I now have a gorgeous 8 week old lab lying next to me right now asleep in her crate. 12 months ago I thought I knew all there was to know about puppy-raising, but now I am so humbled I was ready to buy a pup from a not-so good breeder and have her live in the backyard alone from day one!! How foolish of me...
  3. Thanks, we're in Newcastle/Lake Macquarie. Does anyone know any good behaviourists in the area, and how much is it going to cost? And that's so funny about the teenager giving the finger - that's exactly what it seems like!
  4. Thanks, it sounds a lot like this actually. It's when he's revved up and Mum tells him to do something... he never growls or anything like that. I've sent her the link to this forum so she knows that she's not alone!
  5. Hi all, My mum has a 19 month old Dobermann that has started snapping at her and showing his teeth. He does it when she tells him to do something like 'sit' or 'go to your bed', and he usually does it when she turns to walk away. I don't think it's agressive (it seems to be more playful) but she's worried that if a child's hand was nearby he'd snap it right off! Any tips on how we can fix this problem? She's tried ignoring him and that doesn't work...
  6. I know there hasn't been much good said about the soft crates so far (I was about to buy one tomorrow actually!) so now I'm a bit lost as to what to do. K9+ soft crates (like this one here http://cgi.ebay.com.au/K9-ROYALE-SOFT-DOG-...QQcmdZViewItem) sound really good. I like the idea that they fold up and are light enough to carry and take on holidays etc. We won't need one for travelling as we'll have a station wagon and doggy harness in the car. Has anyone bought one of the K9+ crates and what do they think?
