Did Anyone See The Whiska's And Pedigree Set Up At Melb Show?
ash&elar replied to ash&elar's topic in General Dog Discussion
Well at least they had fun then, I was just thinking it would give off the wrong impression them being in the same pens/enclosures as what you see at a petshop. -
Did Anyone See The Whiska's And Pedigree Set Up At Melb Show?
ash&elar replied to ash&elar's topic in General Dog Discussion
These were crosses i heard the lady sitting in the pen with the one pup tell someone they were a mix of staffy/cattle dog/kelpie. And from what i could tell it was to promote the use of pal there was a heap of pal products and the pups were all using pal things. Also the cats were using whiska's sleeping bags and everyone was buying them. Hopefully like you said they got plenty of breaks, the pups seemed happy enough, so did the kittens it just seemed like the wrong idea to give off with the animals in the glass pens like at petshops. -
Really Worried About Rover :( Healing Vibes Needed

Just wanted to say good luck. fingers crossed for you. -
The whiska's set up from what i could tell was all purebred Bengal cats and kittens with a big glass box full of about 6 kittens with holes in the top for ppl to put toys in and play with the kittens (while looking i seen a guy about 25 poke his sun glasses end through the gap in one of the door and try to poke at a kitten to wake it up for his gf) and the puppies where the same with one at a time in a wire pen for ppl to pat. seemed pretty unfair on the animals (oh there was signs on the glass pens saying they were air conditioned) but some ppl running it were getting the animals out to be petted by the public, though it would be unsafe for young animals without proper vaccs etc. Idk i just thought it was a lil mean, we all hate petshops for selling the animals and keeping them in such cages but its ok to do it to sell produce?

I see them as the same species from diff parts of the same country, I would liken it to breeding an australian bred lab with a amercan or english bred lab, same breed just slightly different breeding etc. I think they have done a good thing.

I once seen a police officer in america (on youtube) shoot a GSD X looking dog with a taser gun, he was making an arrest out the front and the dog came running down the drive i think and right at him, so he tasered it, it dropped as it got shocked and was unable to move while the shock was going through its body but as soon as the shock stopped it got straight back up and went to go him again so he had to taser it again which after that it took off pulling the barbs out and ran down the road. So I am surprised that "two attacked trained" so called pbt took off and hid in the backyard.

German Shepherd Died In Tragic Accident
ash&elar replied to Riley'n'Mia's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oh what a terrible and extremely sad thing to go through, I hope you and your partner are coping as well as you can be!!! I tell my kids that something has died and gone to heaven in the sky up with the moon and stars and watching from up there, they dont really understand but they know that they cant expect them to come back which is what they need to know IMO (my kids are 3 and 5) My closest friend recently lost her baby at full term we are very close and my kids were very excited about the baby in her belly, I was her labour partner and when I came home aftet a few days of staying with her, I had to try to explain to my son who was asking when he could go see the baby, he really didnt understand but after a few days he stopped asking. We have lost a few lifestock on my parents farms and sometimes the kids see the dead animals they ask why they have died now, they understand that they are gone and not there but want to know why, that is a bit harder, I try to just keep it at they were VERY sick and couldnt get better. Honestly im worried by telling them that something died because it was sick will make them think they are going to die next time they have a cold but so far so good, think im just being overly worried. As a child i was told that my granparents dog who i was best friends with rusty a brown curly retriever had been taken to a farm where she could dig heaps of holes and run around in the sun and the ppl where going to take really good care of her cause her arthritis was too bad for her to stay at nan and grandads...... so of course for the next however long i would ask everytime i thought of her if we could go visit yet, until eventually I asked if she had died yet cause she would have to be really old and my dad told me that she had actually died and never had been at the farm, that made me more sad i think as i had this whole life i had dreamed up of her on that farm. So that is why i just tell my kids the truth. RIP beautiful boy. -
OMG I too thought at first that Miss T must of been your dog and though oh how scary, then i realised she is your young daughter I am just so glad you managed to keep her safe what a great job you did!!! I have young children myself and the thought of that happening to them brings tears to my eyes so I can completely understand your crying. I hope they catch this dog soon and also the owners!!!!

And do the full tie!! If a dog's penis can't go back, don't wait too long until you get help, though, because it can be very painful. Yes, that's what we were worried about that if it stayed out we'd be in further trouble. There's no other way to put this, but I was ;) at the actual size of it when it was out. It was seriously about 10cm long, is that normal for an 18 month old ???? LMAO!!! And yeah we have a 13 nearly 14yr old min foxie girl and as a younger girl she would hump the bajesus out of any of our soft toys we left laying around she even used to get up onto the top bunk to get her fav humping buddy and that happened to be my brother lil monkey haha you would walk into your room to find her panting and slobbering everywhere on her side from exhuastion but still humping!!! she would also kind of cock her leg when she wee'd trying to be like a boy! she hasnt dont it in yrs though its seemed to of slowed down and then stopped as she aged. Also caught one of my girl dogs licking the boy dogs lipstick out in the yard when i was a teenager and it was hitting the ground :D both seemed to be enjoying themselves imensly until i had a shout out the door lol And my Fez has been a humper since the day i got him, he doesnt try to hump ppl anymore (its out of excitment) but when him and cindy are playing and she lies down and he jumps over her n starts rubbing around it just kind of starts happening, I just give a warming Fez and he looks stops and the motion stops, sometimes he will actually try to do it to her deliberatly but i dont allow it.

http://www.aussiebulldogs.net/history.html if you go there and look at history it states that, Boxer, english staffy, bullmastiff, and old english bulldogs are the breeds that have been used to make the aussie bulldog, this is what i have read on a few sites when i was considering one a few yrs ago. The ppl who are serious about this breed follow the correct ways, but just like any other breed (or none breed however you want to look at it) there are ppl who dont do the right thing, anyone can mix a bunch of dogs together n sell it for what it looks like, i know ppl with "pure labs" that look like a shorter haired kelpie with longer ears n muzzle, just as ppl can mix a english bulldog with "pigging mix's" and call it a aussie bulldog, there ppl following the right procedures and trying to get this dog reconised and there are other ppl like the twit that breed the poor lil thing mentioned in this post who dont have a clue and just want to breed a dog for a quick buck and/or because the pups are so cute!

Glad things worked out!! My Poodle is begining to give me the poo's atm, here we have a min of 10 ppl, also 4 dogs and other animals, all the dogs are allowed inside but julie I want outside for most of the day (Fez is made to go outside as well) she is a high energy dog and i dont want her sleeping her days away inside (plus if she is out during the day she sleeps better at night and as she sleeps right next my partner and my bed she is annoying if she decides to wonder about) but once she decides its enough she runs around in circles (she always runs circles if she is can no matter what she is doing that also drives me nutty) howling this ridiculour howl or yapping, Its just not workable for her to be in the house all day as the kids run a muck then get the dogs excited and i end up with a zoo running laps. She didnt have any basic training when i got her and i have got her coming to her name and a good recall going even fromt the other side of our 10acre paddock but if i stick my head out the door and tell her to shut up i just get this blank stupid look and a slow high tail wag she has no idea what im on about and she dont care as she got my attention!!! she gets planty of exercise out here, she has kids, dogs, cats, me and my partner to play with stuff to chew things to watch it all, now she has started barking at the cats as well, I know its just because she wants to be in and i know thats because of the type of dog she is but really she is negleted and she would go out of her mind if cooped inside all day and so would i, so yeah i have been contemplating the collor just not sure its what i need and i want to be fair on the dog.

yes very weird??? only thing i could think is they ment colour but its still a very weird and confusing way to word it!!!
-
Oh i knew there would be a thread or two on here about that episode!!! I havent watched it often but DAMN!!!!! WTF!!!! We all just laughed here when the lamb was on all thinking of timmy who NEVER SHUTS UP all the APBT comments were just total bull hit, couldnt believe it. Did anyone actually confirm that the dog who attacked the lil fella was a APBT or just because it was big and had "the look" AND it attacked a dog it must be a APBT! OHHHHHHH AND OF COURSE A DOG WHO IS DA WOULD TOTALLY HAVE TO BE HA AS WELL

A friend on facebook asked me a few weeks back what i knew about beagles as they are thinking of getting one, I dont know alot about the breed but i know they are a hunting dog and heard they can become easily bored and distructive (as most breeds can) and being a hound i have heard they can be a lil dificult to train? but anyway i said make sure u do alot of research and be sure you pick a breed that is right for you, I refered him to this site said to at least look through the forum and suggested he join that there is soooo many helpful ppl here and that maybe the beagle might not end up being the right choice but ppl here could help him make the right choice, I wasnt too sure how much he know about dogs in general or how to go about buying one so asked turns out he didnt know about puppy farms so i warned him about those also not to buy from a petshop either, mentioned rescue and if not rescue then to make sure the breeder was reg'd with reg'd dogs that have all appropriate health tests for the breed with certs to proove it, I know there is more i could of mentioned but i think i did a good job for only a 15min fb chat b4 he had to go. He was very interested and wants to make all the right choices and thought the idea of puppy farms was discusting, so hopefully we will have another member soon. Just wanted to share my good deed for the day

Calling All Whippet Owners, Calling All Whippet Owners
ash&elar replied to ash&elar's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks everyone i will pass on the info -
well i know this should prob be in the training section but more ppl come here and its more general manners and every day training i am talking about. Now this dog isnt mine it is my parents and sisters, she is just short of 6months old, I do not know alot about whippets they are not one of my chosen breeds but I am told they can be quiet feline in behaviour as in more likely to listen/do what you want when it suits them/there is something in it for them? Cindy is a real couch potato loooves sleeping all day on the couch or on the ground infront of the window in the sun, my parents own 13acres and we have a yard fenced off for the dogs and kids but now cindy is leaping the fence (its high enough to keep my standard poodle in) and doing as she pleases (incuding chasing the sheep now and cats) other than the sheep she is behaved when outside, but when trying to recall her or train her at all she will pretty much run the other way!!!! when inside someone (it doesnt matter who) will say sit cindy and she will quickly walk from the room!!! we have tried good treats like cooked chic for rewards and heaps of praise, the recall is better but you have to use a really high pitched squeeky vioce and act like a fool (not so bad on 13acres but wouldnt look forward to doing it in public) and it will work if she thinks it is in her favour to come to you (like you are at the front or back door). I am just wondering what has worked for any of you who have owned or trained a whippet???

Indigo who's the boss you or the dog. You are the pack leader and the dog does as you say. You also say this....she heels when I insist. Well insist she doesn't dig. You also say she isn't destructive in the house....of course not, you can get to her quickly to correct her. Now nobody tell me I don't know what I am talking because I do. 1. Instructor at obedience 2. Titled dogs in obedience 4. Passes at Best in Trial level 5. Held an obedience judges licence. When you find the dog digging, run towards her making loud noises. Push her to the ground and roll her around manhandling her. This is what the pack leader would do if she disobeyed. Let her know it is wrong to dig. If that fails think up things that are displeasing so that when she digs she will blame herself for it. It's also very easy with electric collars. Put one on her and let go out side and when start to dig zap her. If you are not standing close to her and do this every time she starts to dig she will soon blame herself. Make the dog blame herself for digging. She will soon learn that digging brings bad results for her and she will think she causes it and should stop. Just make sure you are well away from the dog when she gets zapped in this case you want the dog to blame herself. If you want the dog to blame you and see you as pack leader, try the first method. +1 agree with these ideas.
