  1. When growing up as a kid (and as an adult lol) you knew everyone in your neighbourhood by which breed of dog it was and its/their name(s)? That you were the only girl in your school that spent her weekends doing dog ob and everywhere you went there would be at least one dog.? That you add as many photos of your dogs in your FB as you do of your kids? you have more fun shopping for the animals than you do for yourself?
  2. Criticising a persons dog is like criticising a person's children - just don't go there. If the dogs are well cared for and the pups will be responsibly rehomed, that's the best you can hope for. If not, save your breath - doesn't sound like they are receptive to your concerns. Yeah I am I said what I had to as in regards to purebred dogs being "inbred" and how they are unhealthy, but don't think there was much point. Im hoping that they will do the right thing with the puppies.I know she will have them vet checked and vacc'd but I doubt they will be desexed or the homes screened. And I think from what he said he will be planning on using the bitch as a brood dog to get the "perfect blend" as he put it... seings how they have a entire male great dane which is actually 3/4 great dane 1/4 bull arab I guess he will be siring these litters.....Just the feeling I get from what he said.
  3. From what I know her dog that her mum got her when she lived at home had pups and they were cute, She isnt a big animal person but I dont know about him never had anything to do with him, I think the best that will happen is the pups will have their first vacc's and wormed b4 going to anyone who wants them, someone asked what she will be asking for them as " " needs another hunter. she said dont know yet guess it depends on how they turn out......
  4. It wasn't about the breed, I said I didnt mean to offend with what I said about the breed I was just saying to her that I googled the breed yrs ago after I heard the name and found that most do not consider it a breed but passed on links so she could make her own mind up, she is a FB friend I have been talking to her for 4yrs we met through a pregnancy site and have been friends since like I said she lives on the other side of vic I dont have the ability to go round and check and help an doffer advise, and as my comments have already obviously offended I dont think any advice I give will be taken in anyway. I was more interested in giving him some actually facts about the purebred breeders and the dogs he knocked which is what I did.
  5. I would go with dominance without actually being able to see the dog and it body language, tail wagging doesnt always mean a dog is happy it depends on the way it is wagging, also what does the dog doing the staring do other than stare? like does she follow her around or will she go relax somewhere?
  6. Thanks for those ideas, yes don't want to be getting in a tiff over it but I was just taken by surprise as I didnt mean any of it in the way he took it and then he actually goes and starts bagging out others as he assumed ide been doing over his cross, even though he admitted that it was without realising it was. So why not just reply with that If you really want to suppy them with breed information why not just google "Bandog" and send them the links I did that in my first comment for her (googled bandog and added the links to my comment) and in mentioning them he said thanks for going to all the trouble with finding the links but i do not need them i know what i am doing.... im assuming he was being sarcastic with the thanks. Anyway I replied to his comment with alot of my own facts about ETHICAL breeders and what they do with their breeding stock and the fact that they breed to better the breed and that it is brb and puppy farms etc that ruin breeds and a few other things, But she deleted the photo and then added it again so that the comments werent there so I dont know if he even read it, and it was quite a great post, wish i copied and saved it actually incase Im in a similar situation again..... EDITED to try to be clearer lol
  7. Well there you go maybe I shouldnt eat my steak pink then!!! Though it also said that most people have had it and are immune to it i think??
  8. is your Pia a whippet??? also I ask because in your signiture she looks just like my parents whippet Cindy
  9. Hahahaha Im sure your mum would of been happy It wouldnt make them sick would it? If the cat is healthy? I just know they say cat poo has alot of bad bacteria in it (I know its poo its gonna have all that bad stuff lol) and I forget what it is that they say can be harmful for pregnant women??? anyone know? I can google it I guess. Yes it is...Unfortunately that's one of my reasons for research - Toxoplasma gondii (here I go again) is carried by rodents and birds. As cats are lovers of these things their poo carries the ocysts of the Toxo. While contracting Toxo in a healthy animal is not dangerous to that animal it can cause the female to miscarry a baby - or a litter of pups or kittens. Toxo in an immuno-compromised animal can be deadly. Unfortunately a lot of vets who are presented with "fitting" dogs generally go straight for the juvenile epilepsy and don't check further. They treat the seizures but not the cause and in the end the dog dies or seizes so badly that it is put down. Both of mine are bird catchers - my boy was immuno-compromised when he contracted Toxo and it effected his nervous system hence the fits. My girl is healthy but because she is a catcher will need to be tested prior to any mating. ok thanks for the info! It does make sense. It said that for people (in the link) that its carried through raw meat, cat feaces, or by transmition from mother to fetus. But for human the most common transmision was through raw or undercooked meat.... This might be why I remember being told as a kid not to eat red or pink pork??? I guess pork over the other meats such as lamb or beef because of the foods that pigs eat or??? Very interesting anyway.
  10. ETA Oh ok what I have just found says its Toxoplasmosis, a parasitic disease caused by the protozoan Toxoplasma gondii. which AmandaJ mentioned with the raw diet. 11. As far as I can tell from her FB they know the previous owner and got her from them.
  12. Yeah I doubt they will and Im not close by so I prob wont ever know how they get on. She is a good person but just not dog savvy its, oh I love puppies.
  13. Sounds like you weren't the first to say something to him, or that he was shocked not to just get congratulations. I don't like seeing people cross IW's - that's if it is genuinely that cross, often anything a bit wire coated and big gets called that. Pure bred Wolfies are such lovely dogs. I've yet to meet one I didn't like. But crossing a breed that size with something with a quite different nature and then sticking the progeny in pet homes just seems daft to me. I know lots described as that are found in country pounds and they often have lovely natures - but the pure bred form is such a magnificent dog to mix up like that. I completey agree I think IW are stunning and though I dont agree with deliberatly crossing dogs some x's dont turn out too bad but I think doing these crosses esp on purpose is just plain ignorant and an accident waiting to happen. A friend has a dog that is ment to be pointer, staffy, kelpie and maybe shepherd..... Its off its head.... wants to chase everything, never stops moving, constantly watching anything that moves, will kill anything small enough.... it pretty much got all of the difficult trait of every breed in it....
  14. Well.... they just got the dog a couple of days ago and it is fully grown and about to pop.... very pregnant.... to a bull arab x american bulldog I believe she said.... I just wanted to give him some facts on the things he stated as facts but I know are not but I wanted to word it right and get my facts right before I went on my high horse They also have a lovely young great dane boy..... who's dad was actually great dane x bull arab she thinks but his mum was pure dane... she is pretty sure. I honestly was just trying to give her some info as she didnt seem to really know and I thought she might be interested to know what type of dog she had just taken in. he said more things about If you are washing and grooming it to parade it and win trophies it defeats the whole purpose of the breed likend it to having a kelpie with no sheep to herd. Lol I can be a bitch too but as I really do like this friend I dont want to get on my high horse and be bitchy at her OH. Oh my!!!!!!!!! Just what is needed, does she have any idea what she is getting herself in for??? I definately wouldn't be getting into a fight with her OH, he wouldn't listen anyway. Be around to hand out sage advice and she will most likely be needing some help when the puppies arrive - good lord what a mix. Goodluck is all I can say. She lives quite a while from me (the otherside of vic) so I wont be able to give any hands on help. I refered her to this site but didnt get a response so figure she wont bother, from her status they are temp testing her but thats all i know and after the OH comments I dont feel I can offer much help. They have had the boy since a pup and he looks to be a nice dog from the body language in the photos but he is 6months old and yesterday is the first time she has mentioned him on her Fb so idk.
  15. 16. Yeah true. And true again, I just hate it when people say such ignorant things like he did about dogs and their breeding etc. But I guess like you's have said nothing I say will change what he believes to be true.

  18. Its dog related.... I was commenting on a friends photo of their new dog, I asked what breeds were in it, she said irish wolfhound x bandog, I quickly googled bandog and it gave me an old topic from here, with ppl saying a bandog wasn't an actual breed, usually a mastiff x of somesort, then there was also a breeders site on googel claiming they are a breed, so I said as much on both and gave her the links (she isn't very dog savvy) I thought she could have a look and decide for herself, I said that from the breeds in her I would ASSUME that she had originally been bred by pig hunters, anyway I went on to say that I wasnt trying to knock the dog just giving her some info, that a good dog is a good dog etc. and then her OH got on and wrote this big post how not to believe everything I read and that purebred dog owners like to put down cross breeds cause they are usually better then the purebreds without the health probs cause they are not so inbred and on n on.... Can I post it here or that breaking a forum rule? I just want some help from people on here with a reply to him, I dont want to get my info wrong or say something that isn't right etc.
  19. Thanks for the replies everyone I think everything you have all mentioned or suggested makes sense, I guess I just didnt think of how to the dog they would smell more to the poo then the poo as in they would be able to smell the food still in there..... Yes I know about dogs and cat poop.... woke up the other night to Julie helping herself to a 3am snack out of the kitty litter was not a nice way to wake up and then I figured I might as well change it etc to stop her from trying again ( there was only the one poo that she had already eaten but she prob would of kept hunting for more if there was the smell there) Oh T. that was a great image right there MR whippy anyone????
  20. I was wondering this last night, I cant remember why I thought of it but I remember as a kid seeing my grandads dog doing it and she wasn't a puppy puppy, maybe 12mths or so, I knew of a lab pup that hadn't been fed well by its breeder and would do it im not sure whether it kept doing it into adult hood or if it stopped, and there was another dog I never met but got told about that did it I think it also came from a bad start, so do you think its from lack of nutrition or is it just a bad habit individual dogs pick up or whats your thoughts????
  21. My mother told me about this last night, how terribly devastating for the family.
  22. Yes I would of done the same thing.... where the calf incident happened me and my partner where looking at buying a house there that is why my aunty told me, with 4 small children 5 and under between us we were not willing to bring our children up in that area....
  23. that is so terrible, I would think it would have to of been multipul ppl to manage that??? There is a town near where I live... well its just a few streets with it own name really on the outskirts of my town, My aunty lives there and one of her sons goes to the school there, well one families kids stopped attending the school and my aunty asked whether they had moved or gone on holidays and was told that the kids in the town had caught, harassed and turtured a calf to death a week or so before and the mother didnt want her kids going to school with the kids who had done it so had withdrawn her kids from the school.... I dont know what else was done about it, but I would hope that someone who knew who was involved got the police or someone involved its sick and scary when these things happen but for kids to do it?? early primary school kids??? what is going on there???
  24. I don't really have any advice to give but want to say good on you for taking this guy in now he will get the chance to have the life he should of always had.
