Hope he goes ok at the vets good luck. When i was growing up as a kid my dad had a gun dog 'tinker' he was a lab x curly retriever and he was the best duck dog ever owned and worked by a man (just ask my dad) but for his whole life if he wasnt working with dad he was making his own fun in my mothers yard.... digging holes nearly 6ft deep, getting out and traveling the country side, ripping washing off the line, pulling plants out of the garden and just generally being a huge pain in the butt, my mother hated him so much one day after one of these episodes she threw him out of the yard and told him to bugger off (in not so nice words ) my dad came home later that day from work to find tinker calmly sitting at the front door ' what have you done this time you silly bastard' my dad says and puts him back in the yard.... when he had to be pts at nearly 11yrs old due to health problems we all bawled our eyes out in the back yard while my dad dug him a grave my mother included, these days we fondly remember the days where tinker did this or that and i love to see the twinkle in dads eyes as he talks about his still number 1 dog. I agree with the other suggestions. good luck.

It's ok if you know the dogs off leash or if you can see owners close by. When I see a dog (especially if it's big) off leash it makes me feel uncomfortable late at night! I have thought about this. Problem is I have not seen those same dogs again- so I am not sure what information I can give them. I don't even know where they are coming from! sorry im not sure how to quote a post hope i havnt stuffed it up too bad but i can understand where your coming from, if nothing else you could just tell them that there is a problem with off leash dogs in your area that you are unsure whether they are strays or loose pets but it is a problem, never know they may do something
-
I too would be worried about this! Can you report the dogs to your local council? If they are pets its irresponsible of the owners (even if the dogs are friendly you dont know that and what if they come across another dog which is not?) and if they are strays chances are they are entire and will be adding to the problem eventually.

Well done - my 14 week is dropping on command. I'm working on stay, but I'm still too much of a draw card!!! Toilet training is hard - how are you going? We still have about one or two number 1's inside each day, however, I've not seen a number 2 for weeks (inside that is). Fun stuff eh!! haha yea he is still weeing inside about twice a day, but hasnt pooed inside for about a week (only had him for 11days) i havnt started with the drop or stay yet, will prob start that in next week or so, i was expecting him to be hard to train as he is a american bulldog x aussie bulldog and they are usually both stuborn breeds but i think he is as easy if not easier to train than my lab was he just wants to please. what breed is ur puppy? Drop is pretty easy - Miia (Finnish Lapphund) was doing it at 12 weeks, but its much improved at 14 weeks. Good luck with it all! hey, i taught conan to drop this morning, it was so easy! i only had to show him once what i wanted him to do and now he does it (only one session and for treats lol), i am looking forward to teatching him crawl and shake! Fabulous! What a good puppy!! I just had to clean up a poo - and after bragging about not seeing one for weeks. Bloomin' heck!! haha yea conan did 2 inside last night! serve us right for braging haha!

i walked my lab puppy from 12weeks but not long distances, while she fitted she would spend most of the walk asleep or watching from the carry pouch underneath the pram haha, my new puppy has been off the farm twice in nearly 2 weeks, i walk them thro the paddocks and my sis takes him on the lead down the drive and up the road to chceck the letter box! we are moving back into town in the next month which i will then start walking him for 10-20mins each night, then once trusted will be aloud off lead with my girl to chase a ball/go for a run. "experts" change their minds all the time just do what you think best for your dog.

wow sounds like you's are going great guns, terrific work!

conan sits on command, comes when called, knows arrrh (no stop lol) and knows get out haha which is usually used when he sneaks inside covered in dirt from digging with my lab! he is also doing very well with his other behavour.

What happened to a dog is what you make it? Your a member too and you should know not to classify certain breeds as having uneven temprements, you own an Amm Staff correct, well a lot of people say things about them as a breed aswell...please dont classify certain breeds as having uneven temps its not a fair statement at all The fact that is a cross breed has no baring on this issue either... Lets get back on topic or close the thread never said i was an expert in fact if u had read what i said i said i based my assessment on what i read/heard and seen of these dogs i have met quite a few they are fairly popular around here, no doubt there is a reeder some where in the hunter region. not long ago i was attacked by one and after that i decided i wanted to know as much as i could about them so i read up abit and spoke to a few people and alot told me that they were very unpredictable dogs especially if not socialised properly, i guess my statement was abit loaded but i am only going off experiences with the breed and knowledge i have gained from people who know the breed. so i went off topic...sue me!!!! it still doesnt mean its the breed as a whole so why only bring up the bad points? everyone got off track, lets just try to stay on it now.

Please, DO NOT attempt to fix this yourself from watching a video or reading a book or something online. DO NOT take the advice of anyone less than qualified and experienced with these specific issues. As I said in my earlier reply, the worst thing that can happen now is some idiot who thinks they know what to do comes along and gives you some crap like "oh you just need to disciplne him when he does that and show him you're the boss, here I'll show you how to alpha roll him" or something along those lines Discipline may not be appropriate at all in this situation and punishment could make the situation a whole lot worse. What you do now will stay with your dog for life, make sure it is the right thing, don't try it and see or hope for the best. Also, while ADT have Melbourne based training centres the trainers who attend their private consults live all over Melbourne and some in country Vic so they may still have someone who can travel to your area without an increased cost. You could also contact the NDTF and see if they have a listing for a qualified trainer in your area. lol that is funny, dont worry there wont be any here ya go all you need to do is beat him into submission, i will be getting some pro help just got to find some. thanks

im no expert i dont know why he growled the first night we had him but not since, i know that they can be dog aggressive and they are used as protection dogs so him only going my lab when she ran towards me may make sense, he is now treating her as his mum! she is not desexed and he will be very soon, i dont want no bulldog x labs thank you! lol. o and i def dont know it all.

I'm not interested in the other crap that's gone on in this post, but I will say this - I hope you're serious about getting that professional help. I thought I knew my dogs too - ones I've owned for 4 years and they are Jack Russell Terriers. How wrong I was. I was sure I knew what was going on with them, and who was causing the trouble, and why. I'm not a professional and neither are you, and until a professional assesses your dog(s), you won't ever really know what you're dealing with. Your original post was yesterday, and you were very concerned. Today, everything is OK. I know from personal experience that it doesn't fix itself that easily and even bandaid attempts don't fix a serious underlying problem. yep will do. thank you. Good luck with your pup, I really do hope it all works out OK. But I would get that pro help.

The American Bulldog standard in height and weight seems to allow massive variations, there are 2 different types - the Johnson type and the Scott type however, many modern American Bulldogs are a combination of the two types - so a fair bit of variability in appearance and no uniform standard could mean the same for temperament too, for various reasons I am sure breeders would understand. I had a look at the Aussie Bulldog sites - frankly it looks like a developing breed that at the moment is just a cross breed itself. The "standard" is pretty loose and not very detailed. On temperament it says - Loyal, fierce in appearance, but extremely outgoing and affectionate in nature. Very stable and predictable. Enjoys activity, however a lot of exercise is not necessary for health and mental stability. The breed craves human attention. Some may not tolerate aggressive overtures by other dogs. Not much to go on. So one parent is not a purebred, and the other is a breed with a substantial degree of variability. Seems a reasonable thing to say that it is very difficult to know what you're going to get temperament wise, but it ain't going to be a walk in the park!! everything you have high lighted is not new to me, i have read it all and much more.

My issue is the 'supposed' research into getting this particular crossbreed, when only a very short time ago the OP was emailing Labrador breeders. Not once, in any thread the OP started about wanting to get a new dog, were these crossbreeds mentioned. Sounds like an impulse buy to me!! edit to say: research? yeah right! just because i didnt post about wanting an american bulldog or aussie bulldog doesnt mean anything do you want to know what i had 4 breakfast? i did alot of research on both breeds and couldnt decide which i wanted, so when i saw these advertised i thought about it, took me 3weeks to decide, call it implulse if u like. back to topic? Just remember that just because you THINK you got the best of both breeds in one dog does not mean YOU DO.. yea i know but there is a chance and i like both breeds so doesnt bother me.
