Hot Weather And Keeping Dogs Outside
ash&elar replied to RoxyNHemi's topic in General Dog Discussion
There is pretty much 99.9% of the time at least one adult home in this house... the dogs are at the min, about 70% inside 30%outside, they spend a good amount of the day outside as they go stir crazy if aloud to stay in all day and come in for nap times and sleep all night inside.... When I buy my own place I plan on having a doggy door leading to a room that they can always come in and out of as they please. -
Thanks Dju, Its deffinitely different.... lucky I like different

My old lab I had growing up would do it, usually a piece of bark or a peg, or something special she had hidden away in her kennel, it was only ever for certain people though and mostly me as we had a very strong conection.
-
Just thought I would mention the sig thread as there is a couple of people.... me included waiting on one of the lovely more gifted DOL members to kindly make us a sig, and no one seems to of been there for a while so just thought Ide say something here
-
Just wanted to say good luck and that I have no doubt that he would be able to make it home.... as long as he doesnt run into the problems you mentioned..... but also which home will he run to??
-
Well I know that there is plenty of other people here that have much more knowlegde then me but my opinion is... That yes she is confused, she doesn't see her "owner" as her owner, friend, boss etc whatever you want to call it... I think your friend needs to spend alot more time with her dog... esp if she expect such obedience. even as simple as coming when called and wanting cuddles from her.
-
Thanks again for your replies really appreciate it. Yes I think I will go ahead and aim to get the pup in about a yrs time, Im currently working my way through the list of lab breeders on DOL.... its going to take a while but Im so worried and stressed bout finding the right breeder!!! I just want to do everything I possibley can to make sure I get the right lab, and I have a certain look I like... no LOVE in the lab, Im very picky as far as looks go and not many breeders breed consistantly the look I love.... But there is a few and Im still working through the list.
-
Also the breeder should have all breeding stock eye tested as well. Learn the breed, the standards and what they "like" about the breed and find a breeder who is breeding for the qualities they really like. Theres more but I can't think atm, and Im also waiting patiently to see what others have to say as I am on the hunt for my lab breeder.
-
Thanks everyone :D I grew up with labs and lab x's and I just love em, But I got scared away from the breed with a couple of bad experiences with dodgy breeding etc. I have been looking at breeders on here for quite a while and trying to decide on my "fav" breeders, I have been going to contact a few but I haven't been able to decide a timeline Ide give them of when I was able/ wanting a puppy. Its great to hear of other peoples experiences.

Thanks for the replies so far Yes I believe I could manage quite fine if I got the pup before the baby, I already have dogs and small ones that Im going to have to teach the next baby to be gentle with and not pick up etc, my 2 skin kids are rough n tumble kids that arent fussed if they accidently get knocked over by dogs or other farm animals, and its not something I am worried about..... My dogs are inside now and though its not easy at some times esp atm with a tiny toy poodle puppy that I have to keep penning cause she likes to walk right infront of you, I still wouldnt have it any other way, I want my dogs inside at my feet/next to me on the couch, and the more I think anout it the more I feel getting the pup before the baby would be a better idea..... Though I still want to hear everyone elses ideas and experiences. Oh and the other half is great, with both skin kids and fur kids, he never had a pet growing up (actually one feral rabbit) and since we have been together I have been teaching him lots, he walks julie, he feeds them, he loves em, right now he is outside in the rain taking Katie for a potty break, the only part of our deal is that he doesn't clean up the poo :D cant really argue with that!!!!

Just Came Back From The Vet And Terribly Sad
ash&elar replied to Moselle's topic in General Dog Discussion
So so sorry!!!! :D RIP beautiful girl xo -
My situation is, I have 2 skin kids. 5 and 3. One is off to school next yr and the other still at home, She is dog savvy. We will be moving in the next 6-7mths when we buy our own house hopefully on an acre or 2. In about 15mths or just over a year my partner and I are going to start to try for skin baby 3, so baby 3 wont be around for at least another 2 an a bit yrs, I already have dogs and a rutine with them and know what Im doing as far as training, socialising, that I want the next dog as a mostly inside dog like the others and that the said dog will be a male Labrador. The way I see it is I could A) Get the pup a few months after we have moved in about a year then my daughter would soon be off to kinder, but still mostly home, it would just be me, her and the dogs most of the week, and the pup would be about 6mths when me n OH start TTC, and prob about 15-19ths when bubs is born. Or B) Wait until after the baby is born and about a yr old to get the pup? My thing is then you are raising two babies at the same time? babies like to grab and pinch and baby puppies are more fragile and less able to get out of the way of a skin baby, plus the two would both be terrors together..... but It would only be me, bubs and dogs at home most of the time, I wouldn't be preg with a young, large dog (im not worried bout being hurt but being tired, though im used to that) I know both have their pros and cons, just wondering about others thoughts? If you were planning on getting a puppy but not for a while anyway and where also planning on having a baby around that same time would you A) Get the pup first and train it up, get it used to all the rules and well behaved etc before the baby. B) Wait until after the baby is born (8-16mths old) and then get the puppy, train etc with a young baby/toddler? And if you have gone through this or similar situations how did it work out for you?

Not Sure Where This Thread Belongs
ash&elar replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have watched a few episodes and some of the owners on there just have no idea and the dogs are so dangerous because of it. -
I have a standard poodle who is very laid back for poodle ;) would depend on if i could get down there at the time though.
-
Haha thanks guys for the replies, we have named her "Katie" hahaha I know its a sweet name not spicey at all but turns out she is a really sweet girl and a huge sook ;) they are all getting along great but its supervised limited plays as the others get too excited and rough.
-
Just wanted to say I love everyones photos! You can just see how loved and looked after these dogs are and HAPPY!!! Its just great to see esp when I don't know many people in person who do look after their dogs like these ones. I esp love the staffy pics and the lil white dog on his head with his back legs in the air EVERY time I see that I start laughing Great pics everyone keep em coming :D

ould someone kindly please make me a new sig? After our new Katie joining the family I think I need an updated one... which I have needed for a while anyways :D Can you use this one please? the rest you can pick and choose from whichever is easiest for you Katie Katie and Fez. Fez Julie Sookey Grinny Grin Sulley If there is too many photos then dont worry about the kitty kitties Oh n I love the colour purple
-
Fez's first time at the beach. Fez and Katie just after we picked her up. She is 8weeks he is 8mths. Julie after her shave lol. Julie night before shave :D Standing pretty. whaaaa???? Old Midge xx my daughter and Katie A new fav as it is the only nice one of me n al 3 of my poodles Katie and my son
-
I would say Cavs, Or a Whippet, though I guess it depends on what size you mean by small and how you existing dogs will get on with what sized dogs??? I think a Cav would make a great lil dog for a young kid, and I actually considered them before I decided on the poodles.

My lil fez is/was a humper. First day he got here he was so excited he started humping my daughter when she sat on the floor to pat him, I shoved him off quickly and got her to stand up, he only humped the kids/me a couple of times in the first few weeks when he was excited and really young. Now he is 8 months nearly 9months and he only ever occasionally humps Cindy his play friend a whippet puppy, He seems to be growing out of it and I can stop him from doing it with saying his name sharply like he is in trouble, or saying URGHHH in a growly voice which all my dogs no means stop doing whatever you are doing lol. I guess some grow out of it and othershave to be trained to not do it or you just let em go for it.

So lil FRECH HOT N SPICEY will be 8 weeks old this thursday and ready to be picked up and come to us her forever home She is a lil red toy poodle like my Fez, and I am still working on a call name for her, I got to pick her reg name with the breeder and it suits her, she is a lil live wire but I want an original name for her not just chilli or something obvious. Any ideas??? She is going to hopefully be my first show dog if I have time and learn how to clip, train etc for the shows, As I didnt have time with Fez but still looking into it with him. Also does anyone here have experience with owning std poodle bitches and toy poodle bitches??? Just wondering whether it works the same as most small plus large packs? where usually the lil ones have it over the big ones.... Cause my Fez is def bottom dog and Julie top bitch she grumps at him at night time if he is being too wriggly and he rolls over and does the whole submissive thing.... I can see the new pup doing that while she is a pup... but maybe not as she matures??? Julie isn't over the top bossy its more if the others are in her face and she has had enough she will grump and they all go into submissive mode. Just wanted to post about her as Im very excited, have been waiting since I got Fez :D
