  1. Would 4kg's of meaty bones in one sitting count? lol, damn dog got to the shopping before i did one day...and he is puny...he's only 40kg's
  2. :D So far the only thing i have found that my dog won't eat is kidney, so if that's on the menu i'd be pretty sure he would turn up his nose as that but not much else...lol Size may not be the advantage, but two food loving breeds mixed into one dog is sure to help... Edited to add...i have known Lab's that given the opportunity they would have eaten themselves to death...or explode which ever came first!
  3. I'd be willing to put money on my Harmond...with a mix of Rotti and Lab how could he lose? especially if he didn't have to do anything more then stand there and scoff food...lol Kit
  4. The butchers at the Rocklea markets have the wings and most Woolworth supermarkets are doing the necks now, but they are prepacked at both places. Kit
  5. I had already decided what i am doing with my new pup, i was just curious as to the pro's and con's due to the fact that i has someone in my ear about getting him a vasectomy rather then castrating him. Kit
  6. Perhaps turkey necks or turkey wings as well? Kit
  7. Personally i would have to say that most pet owners do not check their dogs 'bits' everywhere else yes but generally not the genitals. I did when my older boy was entire, but that was partially because i knew there could be problems if not desexed but also since they were there he had to be used to his bits being touched so the vet could do it safely at his yearly check up. 8. Hehehe, yes i am joking...more or less, but considering of the three dogs i have at home only Bronx really squats, even Missy lifts her leg ;) But it's not a macho thing, it's more just what i'm used to i guess, boys lift the leg and pee around the edges of the yard, the girls squat and have the rest of the yard for their convenience. The Macho thing was why Harm didn't get desexed till after he was 5 years old, it was like a personal indignity for my ex to have the dogs snipped. The ex went and my dog lost '2 stone', and now Bronx can lose his before he gets to attached. Kit
  9. I've already decided to get my pup fully desexed as i think that will make things a lot easier between him and my older dog. I just hope he has learnt to lift his leg by then, or if not that my older dog can teach him to ;) . I was just curious more then anything else in regards to the 'choice' . Kit
  10. I agree with the Squirt products, they smell terrific and are nice to use with very nice results. I've actually used it myself on the odd occasion and it was just as good for me as the dogs, it's also PH balanced pr PH neutral or something like that and can be used without causing a problem to spot-on flea products. Kit
  11. I was asked the other day if i would be keeping my new dog entire, getting him a vasectomy or the complete snip so i just thought i'd ask the question... pro's and cons would be? Up until now I was of the understanding they wouldn't do them here even though I know they can be done in at least some of the other states. Just curious. Kit
  12. I would say use the fresh, if you use the dried you'll just have to add an extra handful...i would think... Edited to add stuff...lol When ever my boy gets a hot spot i clip back the area of the spot and around it then either use fresh aloe vera all and around it and that usually sorts it out in a couple of days. I have used powdered antiseptic (sp) as this dries out the spot and generally stops it from growing any further, apple cider vinegar is also good for this...at least so i have found. Kit
  13. 1. what do you feed? Meat - Turkey necks, turkey wings, chicken frames, chicken necks, chicken wings, chicken quarters, chicken pet mince, lamb necks, lamb flaps, lamb meat, organ meats, beef rib bones, beaf meat, beef necks, roo tails, roo meat, pork bones, pig feet, pork meat. Vegies - what ever is on special all mulched up. Other - eggs, sardines, yogurt, supercoat, dog food sausage. 2. how often? The pup gets his meals 3 times a day and my older dog gets once a day, and the same for my BC guest. 3. how much? My 8 yr old gets generally one of something a night, whole lamb neck, chicken frame, meal of mush with or without RMB. My pup gets enough of a variety of mush, bones, kibble so that he leaves a little in his bowl. Foster BC, 6yrs old, has two cups of supercoat and 100grams of dog meat sausage, or her kibble and some of what ever my other dogs are getting. 4. what breed, age, sex and weight is your pet? 8yr old male Rotti X lab, 40 odd kgs,...does that make him a Rottadore in todays terms . He is older and does less so doesn't get to eat as much as the others. 11 1/2 week male GSD, 16 1/2 kgs. 6yr old Border Collie female, no idea on weight. 5. where do you purchase your ingredients from? Butchers, supermarkets, wholesaler 6. have you always fed your dog this diet, or did you change over to it gradually? The BC was always fed on supercoat and sausage, so i haven't completely changed her over but generally she gets some of what the others get. The pup has been getting BARF and some kibble since i brought him home. The Rotti x got changed over to almost completely BARF about 12 months ago, and i just switched straight over with no problems. 7. what have been the advantages and disadvantages? Advantages - dogs look better, enjoy their meals, teeth are great, poos easier to deal with and stink less, a bit cheaper even with large breeds, works out a little easier as you can pick up stuff when you see it cheap or whatever. Disadvantages - takes more preparation, takes more freezer space, you have to track down good meat suppliers to make it cost effective, sometimes hard to track down what you want, eg turkey necks, whole lamb necks etc. 8. have you seen changes in your dog, ie. coat, energy levels? Coat on my older dog was always good but he looks better over all, better for weight maintenance, musculature is better, more active, poos less smelly and easier to pick up. He is playing more with the pup then i expected so i would say he is more active as well. You can see the difference in 'out put' between my two dogs and the BC, less smelly, smaller, more compact and so easier to pick up. But for one the BC's teeth are looking better since she has been getting a RMB of some sort with each meal. Being a BC she always has lots of energy My GSD pup is growing steadily but is staying lean, not looking pudgy for all that he is eating his fill three times a day at each meal, his coat is full and thick and he is bright and full of energy.
  14. I have the same type of dogs! My Rotti x lab has always been washed outside but i have to take the hose and press it into his fur so that the water is basically coming out of the hose against the skin else the water just runs off his outer coat. I do that while i am running my spare hand up against his fur so that it all sticks up the wrong way. Then shampoo and wash out the same way then again with the conditioner and a really good hose off for the last of it. The GSD is the new addition to my family and he is a long coat but i aim to wash him much the same way...except that he's likely to have more hair products then i ever will! Kit
  15. Just one of the other threads got me curious and so i thought i'd ask the questions...so sorry if it has been asked before Also why do you choose to feed your dogs when you do? Thanks all Kit
  16. My boy gets a mix of BARF, kibble and left overs. He never really got those huge beef bones as he'd eat the ends off them and leave them around the yard for me to trip over when doing poo patrol. But he'd regularly get brisket bones, tongue, lamb flaps, all the kinds of stuff that he could eat entirely. Also when making up soups and stews he would get his own made up from the scraps and stuff which he loved. But he still gets kibble when i'm running late or am being particularly lazy...or as a treat when i toss a bundle up in the air and he has to track them all down...lol...he loves it when i do that ;) Kit
  17. My poor cat gets the same treatment as the dog does, hand reaching down to the middle of the muzzle so that the base of your hand is perhaps covering the eyes. Tilt head back carefully with fingers sliding into part the jaws a little tilting the head up gives them little choice and then toss in the tablet followed by the free hands finger a little if needed. Then hold the muzzle closed and gently rub the throat and if that doesn't work gently blow in their nose. Followed by a nice treat. Nice and quick but i've been doing it that way for years and generally with big dogs so...*shrugs* Cheese is also a great way to disguise tablets, small square of cheese, push the tablet in then toss to the dog, usually cheese is eaten quick and with little to no chewing..hehe.
