How/when/why Did You Make The Decision?
KitKat replied to KitKat's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'm looking down the barrel of this decision...as in the next 2-3 years at least i should hope but...the thought started and now every so often i wonder when and how i'd be able or willing to make the decision and let go -
Whats The Best Smelling Dog Shampoo?
KitKat replied to Joey Rocks My World's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The Squirt Range!!! and it's very nice for people too....I've used it a few times myself -
I believe their email crapped itself...perhaps too many dol'ers placing orders? lol...but either way none of the emails made it thru to them...might be worth emailing them again or placing an order with ML's one if you are after some?
-
Just asking to satisfy my own curiosity... When people have had to make the desicion...how did they do it?
-
Bump
-
Fair enough I've never used the stuff...or seen it actually just heard great stories from others...i thought you'd only use a smidge of the stuff...i'm now guessing you use a fair amount more then that? lol

Perhaps make use of some of the nutrigel when you do offer him his meals? the nutrigel is supposed to stimulate the appetite i think...
-
My GSD pup tried this on me when he was a little tacker...'eat it or nothing' was used and he's not turned his nose up at anything since...and he's now 45kg's, days shy of 12 months old and still growing
-
Well...for my opinion....the food is great!!! the dogs looooove it and it's got everything i need in it for them (and for less then i could make it) I still give the boys some meaty bones (most meals) etc but mostly just for crunch value ETA - I use the Breeders Choice and The Edge for my two large breed dogs
-
So he's missed two meals? that's still ok...make sure he has access to water...and no other food at all...not treats no snacks no nothing And try to ignore his big pleading eyes
-
It often proves very interesting ETA - it may also be worth looking at delivery/postage...some companies have deals with AusPost which makes their delivery costs very reasonable...depending on prices tho it may not prove any more cost effective...but worth looking into...eg some online places do the 'if items purchased cost over this amount, postage is free' etc...

Hehe thanks PM...it's been a little while since i've looked at the prices of premium kibble...just remember thinking it was much the same as the other premium types Proplan does give you 18kg's instead of the usual 15kgs so that will make a difference in price...but i only noticed that the other day as someone was spruiking it at me
-
RC is pretty darn good...but i also like the fact that there is a range for each type (age specific) as well as a growing number of breed specific types. Also it is worth shopping around for prices and 'sales' etc...and you also may get a discount from some shops due to being a breeder.
-
Pricewise i believe RC is along the lines of Euk/Proplan/Advance
-
My boys get canned sardines fairly regularly...but i've often seen whole mullet going cheap etc etc the medium type fresh fish...and i've wondered if i'd have to scale the silly things forst...or aim for the fish with only itty bitty scales?
-
But telling people what to feed their dogs is tantamount to telling people waht to eat themselves...or what to wear etc. If people are happy with how things are going...being pushy will jsut put people back up. Much better to provide the info as just that and say..."this is the difference in my dogs, isn't that great? and i am so happy" and leave it at that...people will be interested and will ask questions. That's how i got onto BARF because it got me interested...rather then someone trying to push something on to me, telling me it would be better and that i should do it...that would just get my back up...but perhaps that's just me
-
Scales and all?
-
But the thing is...if peoples dogs are doing beautifully on kibble or what ever....why should they change over? even for a two month trial? just because someone says they could be doing better? It's up to the individual and their dog as to what food works best, i feed mostly BARF...but the fact that others don't doesn't upset me...as long as the food they feed their dog is decent quality and their dogs are healthy what business is it of mine? well...actually...in general what business of is it of mine what others feed their dogs?
-
Amhailte - tripe is good if your dog needs to lose some weight as they feel full but there's nothing fatty (or much of anything else..lol) in it. So if your dogs aren't fed tripe it's not a worry

Then as PoodleFan said...
-
Chum is barely a filler...let alone anywhere near nutritional. A premium kibble is a balanced diet...some dogs don't do so great on it however. Raw chicken is in it's natural state with more vitamins, minerals and other stuff dogs need...including bones. Cooked chicken looses a lot of what the dog needs in the cooking process and because it is cooked means the dog can not have the bones which they do need if yuo going with the 'natural' approach.

The idea is not to leave her with the one meal. Leave it with her for 15 mins then take it away and offer it again at the next meal time, if still no go take it away again adn offer it again later. Generally by the following morning they will tuck into it fairly well. But no snacks no nothing while yuor going through with it. A decent quality kibble (even purina one, supercoat) would be better to feed then Chum, however if they want to stick to tinned food then Natures Gift isn't to bad...all human quality ingredients etc.

As i said...do a search...you'll see a number of threads and advice on how to go about sorting the problem out... Most of us have been through it at some stage, i know i did with my GSD pup.
-
IMHO that pup has got you guys nicely trained already... If you do a search on this forum you will find numerous threads on helthy pups not eating this or that...and training their people to give in to them..
-
TE you'll want to be careful that she doesn't end up with a vitamin deficiency...or calcium deficiency....what she's eating isn't a complete diet for a growing puppy..
