  1. Some dogs do well on some foods, some do great...others don't do so well it comes down to the individual dog.
  2. I to would seriously suggest contacting the police...if nothing else other then so that they have the abuse and threat on paper (report etc). Not sure i'd use a bark collar on such a young pup but i'd certainly look at the water idea....and the whole 'pretend leaving' thing that you'd do with a dog with separation anxiety issues...she's just chucking a tanty by the sounds of it so it shouldn't take long for her to realise that it's not going to work....but rather then just ignoring her as it happens sit down and specifically do the training as such. Hope that makes sense..lol...i have to go crash before i pass out
  3. From what I've seen around Brissie EP is priced along the same lines as RC, Euk, Hills etc
  4. Different foods can cause different problems depending on the particulan animal involved. I was told the other day of a persian cat who was an absolute monster, narky and agressive the owners put him on RC Persian...and the owners came back in to the store to say their cat was competely different..smoochy, affectionate, and friendly..no more the snarly, scratchy nutcase ;) They aren't sure if it was fustration for the cat in having possible difficulties in eating the other food or something else but they weren't questioning the result Also like some people some ingredients can cause issues with some dogs. The best way to check is probably to change the food, for example if they want to stay with the price range of supercoat perhaps go to Bonnie, Optimum or Purina One or what ever it's called.
  5. I use Royal Canin and for all that it's a complete food i feed bones and raw stuff with it as often as not. But i would feed EP over Innova and California Natural if i was to choose between the three. In fact my top three super premium foods would be RC, EP and Advance
  6. Ester C is also very very helpful...it's a type of vitamin C that you'll be able to find at any healthfood store or pharmacy Brilliant stuff
  7. Yup...i think there are even two flavours...turkey and rice or the normal one You aren't anywhere near Toowoomba are you? A PetStock produce store is opening in November and if they are doing the same stuff as they did at their caboolture opening there are going to be a fair number of sales and two for one offers...including on Advance.
  8. Tee Tree oil needs to be diluted basically... Also...correct me if i'm wrong...but the Generalised Demodex problem is apparently hereditary...but the localised demodex (under 5 spots) is considered a hormonal problem rather then something passed down the line? Either way...localised demodex is a self limiting problem, but varying treatments will decide if it's a quick outbreak that is over quicker or if it drags out a bit. Generalised demodex needs to be kept under control and treated, and may reoccur in times of stress, illness etc etc.
  9. Murphy was a lovely old soul with the edge and spirit of a dog much much younger. A beautiful old Lady indeed. Thinking of both you and Dave. Run free Murphy...
  10. It's not unusual...my older dog will go in and vacuum any 'treats' the cat may have left if he think's i'm not looking I put it down to the fact that cats have a higher protein diet then dogs do...and their dry cat food tends to have more salt as well...so...a healthy cats poo has a smell and taste that the dogs find inviting and delicious
  11. Rescue Remedy and you can get it from pretty much any chemist or health store
  12. I basically don't get out of a petstore without buying something...but i always buy at least a couple of pigs ears for the boys
  13. Christina77 not sure if you are interested but Royal Canin does three foods that might be of interest...one is Exigent for very fussy cats...it's made to tempt even the fussiest of eaters..lol. Another is Mature 28 which is made for cats over 10 yrs of age and Senior 26 which are made for cats over 15 yrs of age...both have a kibble with a softer texture and have been made to taste a little more tempting then say kibble for a normal adult cat.
  14. I refuse to use it or try it...only because to buy it you have to go thru pets paradise...or at least thats the case in QLD.
  15. My dogs breeder recently raise a litter of 10...and she was feeding every 2 hours...(GSD pups)
  16. Well...if it's anything...my older boy is 9 and starting to 'slip' a little...so i've made the decision to no longer vaccinate him. But up until this point he's had them each and ever year. And i feel comfortable with the decision
  17. Only be warned with a vets opinion....they are supplied with a couple of types of premium foods (Hills, Iams, Euk) and will advise that you buy those and from them...which is more expensieve for the same product from the petsops/produce stores.
  18. Most of the bigger petshops and some produce stores stock; Premium brands - Royal Canin, Eukaneuba (sp), Iams, Hills Science Diet, ProPlan, Advance - Now these are all great foods...basically if you pick one of these you can't go wrong. The staff at the shop should be able to give you a run down of prices but all are great quality. Eagle Pack can be bought in some stores but just don't expect to find it at your local shop...this may change in the future tho. Track down their website and it will have a list of stockists etc and if nothing else you should be able to get it ordered in by someone. On the mid to lower end of the scale most produce stores and supermarkets stock - Optimum, Supercoat (both good foods) and lucky puppy, pal puppy (can be a bit like junk food but some dogs still do ok on it) My main problem with innova is the fact you can only buy it thru Pets Paradise (and it's scarily expensive) and that doesn't sit well with me as i don't like their treatment of the pups and kittens that they continue to sell at a frightfully young age.
  19. Wow...i think it's $69 here for the 15kg bag...and that's in QLD!
  20. Yup...the lab kibble is..oh..umm..i'll nab a sample from my stash and bring it with me tomorrow....so you'll have to come to the pet expo to get it from me ETA - I'll bring a sample for an itty bitty Kirri dog as well
  21. Different dogs do better on different food...makes it an expensive effort on the super premium foods But i do like the RC in that the kibble size/shapes are different for diff size dogs and for some breeds...i like that my dogs actually have to crunch the kibble rather then just hoover it..lol.
  22. Iams tends to do better 'deals' then RC...but RC is going more for 'loyalty' to their product and go with the idea that constant sales aren't going to get them that. But their frequent buyers card is much like the others...buy 9 get the 10th one free or some such, but they occasionally do interesting things like blankets, leashes, bowls, etc with their bigger bags.
  23. I'd be thinking the 4300 (Energy) might be the way to go...and get one of the frequent buyers cards (i can send you one if need be)...and work your way onto the breeder program and get the breeder prices ETA - so perhaps not the energy thing then..lol...but there is mature or the sensible ones...and if you buy the bigger bags it does work out cheaper over all..
  24. I can NOt all dogs will do well on all foods...even on hte premium foods...say they might do better on Proplan then Eagle Pack..or on RC rather then SD. Now those mentioned are great foods...but not every dog is going to perfectly suited to it. My older dog was brought up on Chum kibble and Pal kibble...and always looked incredible. As in when we went into the vets for vaccs they'd ask me which premium kibble he was on as he looked so good and healthy...And really there hasn't been much difference since i changed him onto half barf half premium kibble. Yet i noticed the difference in my GSD pup All in all...go with what suits your dog
  25. Also...with the whole 'meat should be first in list' thing....it's not always going to be the case because some companies weigh the mushed up meat 'meal' while it's still wet...so due to weight it's top of the list....other companies weigh the meat 'meal' once it's been dehydrated...hence it being say..second on the list...So that's something to consider as well...
