  1. Put puppy thru it? within two hours or so the little blighters are up running around and into everything as if nothing had happened! Mind you i had my 6 month old male large breed done and he wasn't himself for about 24 hours! Not to mention having to keep him away from his stitches for the two weeks or whatever it was! As to being 'criminal' - that's a lot of rot...many vets won't do early desexing because they don't like to. I've even known vets to say bitches should be allowed their first season before being desexed, others even saying that bitches should be allowed a litter before being desexed! That last one to me is more criminal!
  2. My dogs (2yr old and 7mth old) get fed their dinner at 8.30pm they get an outside break about 15mins after they have finished for about 1/2 an hour - by then they are waiting at the back door to come inside again. Then at 10.30pm they get a 10min loo break each separately. This has been our routine since forever - And even Sabre has been sleeping thru the night since he was 4 months old - however i get up at 6am and let them both out for a break before they rush back inside for their (and my) sleep-in - when i'm not working that is...lol. ETA - I'd give your boy another break before bed, but not let him have water at that break...and go from there....it won't happen over night - but it will happen!
  3. It may not have been right for that particular pup...but i think the new owner has to accept that her pup is one of the unlucky few and work out ways to keep the problem at bay. Don't know about where you are...but up here there are very few vets that will tie tubes or vasectomise pups...they'd rather take everything all out. It's not a matter of being cheaper/easier. Also...even if this pup had not been desexed early...it could still have occured/continued to occur.
  4. A lot can depend on if the bitch has an 'inny' or an 'outy'. I believe there was some info floating around that girls with inny's should be left till after their first season to be desexed as their vulva will have increased and so shouldn't have the same problem. But it didn't rule the problem out all together. Not only that tho...hundreds of baby bitches are desexed every day (breeds/rescue/etc) across the country... i would think it would only be a small percentage of pups having these problems else i doubt it would happen as often.
  5. Shek...you can notice within the week with some dogs...some times it takes a couple
  6. Yup Ester is the brand name I'd also make sure the dry food he is getting is for large breed pups rather then normal puppy food if possible. Also whole eggs are fine to give and you can give them the egg shell and all
  7. As to the protein issue...a lot of the problems with it is quality not quantity and balancing the nutrients etc the pup requires thru it's growth periods. As long as it's a high quality large/giant breed puppy food then you should be fine. If you can make sure you get barf/raw correct then that is also a good way to go - but as an example of protein for pups barf/raw by it's nature is high protein but balanced with everything else a growing pup needs (if done correctly). If you feel your pup can do better on something else, eg different brand of kibble, or trying barf/raw - then go for it Just make sure you stick to quality large/giant breed kibbles or the correct ratio in regards to barf/raw (eg Dr Billinghursts book- grow your pup with bones, or soemthing along those lines)
  8. Hehehe...well Bronx and i do a 3km walk fairly regularly but i'm off for major surgery on Monday so that will slow me down for a while (no exercise for 6-8 weeks or some such apparently!) But once all is good again we'll start increasing the distance of our walks and lessening the time - and walk more often kinda thing - when it gets closer to we'll 'train' more seriously
  9. Rom - I'm still coming! circumstances have caused me to delay my deposit a little  Will PM you!
  10. Aaww hun Thinking of you and Kaeleigh
  11. Feher - are you after a food all your dogs can eat? or adult and pup type food? Just i can recommend the Royal Canin German Shepherd and GSD Junior kibbles And depending on how active your other dogs are the RC 4300 or 4800 would probably work nicely as well
  12. The roo meat can be a touch rish for pups if they aren't used to it. Worming tabs etc can sometimes bind them up a little...or give them a little case of the trots. The lil bit of blood could be from straining with a hard poo, could be something worse. The vacc's can cause a variety of reactions - my pup was rather dopey for 24 hours after having his vacc's (it was wonderful! so peaceful! ) Other pups can get very energetic, can come up in lumps in the injection site, being off colour...all sorts :-S As with all things if you aren't sure head back to your vet, but this time perhaps call them first just to let them know of the additional issues and see if they ask you to come down?
  13. Hehehehehehe...thanks for the pic!! He's a cutie!!! as to the ears...i guess it depends on if you want them tipped or pricked!
  14. Can we have a pic to see the 'offending' ear??
  15. I suggest the paw paw ointment as well...it's handy as it has soooo many uses! good for the dogs elbow caluses (sp?) as well.
  16. Smokeysue if you PM Rom she'll be able to give you all the info WEIA - :D Aawww! Oh well - next time!
  17. So...who else will be there on Saturday??
  18. Royal Canin does a specific Lab food in both the Adult and Junior ranges...Nutro also does a sensitive skin and coat kibble for pups and adults. Also when a pup's adult coat comes thru i've noticed that they can get scurfy (dry skin) which shows up especially well on a black coat..
  19. I do much the same as LilPixie If the dogs are carrying a tad extra weight they get a food cut...if they look a lil too lean then they get an increase
  20. Hehehe...how long is that piece of string? I have one GSD who is almost 2 yrs old...he still squats (well stretches and pees) and i have a GSD pup who started cocking the leg at 3 months...so...all depends on the dog...he might start...or he might not
  21. Can't say much mroe then Rugerfly already has
  22. I have stainless steel bowls for my pair...but the bowls are licked clean clean clean - no matter what has been put in it. They only get washed if there is something left in it...but since that hasn't happened yet...they haven't been cleaned
  23. Bump Woohoo...looking forward to the Saturday
  24. Rom - you might want to ask the mods to combine your two threads on this topic...i didn't see this one till just now and so emailed Steve earlier today. And didn't realise part of what i was asking was listed here...

    Wash

I like the Squirt products...they smell lovely, wash up the dog well and go a long way useage wise. (It's are made by the makers of Fudge people hair products) I also like the Fido's Emu Oil shampoo - and the Aloveen stuff is fabulous!
