I'm looking into the possibility of getting a couple of bags of GB or UA - and of course being in Brissie i've discovered it isn't so easy. A place in Goodna stocks the product due to pressure from dog owners/breeders/showies in the area. I'm currently chatting to the manufacturer (lovely people!) about what it would take to get it up here...eg a few bags vs pallet, and if it must go to a store etc. And i'm finding that info out for 'a store' - eg if they can get me a couple of bags...or if it would have to be by the pallet load. And before i get too carried away...i'm curious to see if there would be interest from any others in and around Brissie for the product? ETA - not asking for people to pre-buy or such...just if there was enough of an interest even the store i deal with may be willing to consider getting in a pallet - but either way i'll see how things go

My dogs love the treats - it's basically a jerky - so you feed a lot less of it then you would any kibble. It's great stuff! However i think for my two large dogs...it would be too expensive for anything more then an additive or a treat Mind you as it becomes more popular it may become cheaper.

BARF isn't always as cheap as it's made out - much depends on the dogs - to keep any kind of weight on my GSD's on just raw i have to feed 3-4 times the recommended amount - and they still drop condition. Certianly didn't make it cheap - however some SP kibble also doesn't keep weight on my boys either so a lot depends on the dog itself. I guess also it would depend on availability and freezer space - my boys have their own chest freezer for their bones etc. But by the sounds of it the owner is feeding more or less a raw diet anyway...so a chook frame or two instead of the kibble will probably do just as nicely

Espinay2 - I'm actually looking at that particular hydrobath from the barfshop at the moment! at least i think it's that one...but it's 'promotion' at the moment is that it comes with a free ramp Must admit i'm glad to hear a Dol'ers recommendation on it :D before i order it :D

PricelessPets is actually run from a vet surgery. I also believe that most petstores can't actually buy from Bayer etc direct and so have to buy them from those vets that allow them to - at a price of course.

Dog Food Project - This is a good site to get a good working knowledge of what to look for in a dry food etc. Unfortunately for me i found BARF to expensive as i was having to feed so much of it (way more then RDI) to my dogs to keep any sort of weight on them. But it's worth giving it a go if you have the freezer space as it can work out cheaper depending on what you use and where you get it from. I tend to do dry with raw on the side now, with the occasional meal of just raw or just dry. However for kibble on the cheaper end of the scale i'd suggest using Bonnies, Optimum, Purina One, Pedigree Performance. A number of Dol'ers have found this foods work very nicely for their dogs. And must admit my GSD's do well with the Bonnie Working Dog formula. But either way...dry or raw try and buy in bulk when you can as it does work out cheaper! And feel free to try a few things and see what works out best for your dog and your budget

Husky87 - i believe Petwise has the yellow oldfield dryers for people to use. Tho i do know a few people take their showdogs in there to wash and brush up etc..OES's as well

I'm not a groomer but i've defurred husky's before...lol. And if i had the time i'd offer to do so for you for a bottle of coke...lol. But as a suggestion head off to PetWise and for $10 you can hydrobath and blow dry your dog yourself. If you are a member of the Petwise club (free) you can use the hydrobaths etc on Monday and Tuesday for $2.00. And you can basically spend as much time as you like doing so

A lot of snow breeds i have dealt with have problems with red meat...which comes out as major skin irritations. And many have the same problem with chicken believe it or not. I have put a number of mals and husky's onto Proplan Sensitive with Salmon and have had great results. But i would seriously try the dog on a fish based diet - eg Proplan or EaglePack do a fish one as well.

The thing with rice is it's very easily digestable by dogs and cats...as opposed to many grains etc.

Nope...that's me I have Bronx currently on Nutro Large Breed Adult and he's going very nicely at the moment and scoffs down the kibble. Sabre will be starting on Nutro Performance in the very near future - he needs the higher energy type food - Bronx doesn't burn thru it as quickly hence he's on the LB Adult. I'm also going to be trying my cats on it soon as well...my younger kitten has the most horrific smelling poos...for all that he's on Royal Canin and looks wonderful...the other cat isn't stinky...but Chaos is...not sure if it's just home being spiteful...lol

Perhaps check with the people who have the online stores...the delivery costs aren't always as bad as one might think!

KeepItReal...use them and see how you go...perhaps give them with a mix of kibble to add a bit more fibre etc and just see how well your dog does on them. Ay leftover unopened tins that you don't use would probably be gratefully recieved by your local rescues...

I don't feed BARF to my GSD's but they get plenty of meaty bones...including pig feet and hocks, turkey wings/legs/necks/tails, Lamb necks/flaps/off cuts, Beef ribs/necks, chicken necks/wings/legs/frames/whole/mince, roo tails etc etc

My two GSD's have done beautiully on Royal Canin and i'm just about to start them on Nutro to see how they go on that

Geez i hate it when the forum gremlins eat a carefullly written longish post! Anyway...shortened version! Rice is the only 'grain' in Nutro - so easily digestable. TB I know how you feel about raw - had Bronx on it and his condition went to crap no matter what i did - is great now he's on a mix and match. Will never go back to it again either for all that i know a number of dogs doing great on raw. Re Kaos - was she on antibiotics after her cut foot? or anything such like that? could just be she is a tad out of balance for some reason hence the thrush. Perhaps get her onto some inner balance tabs or something? Re At...Typical!!! Eat anything...and if it's not food then all the better! Perhaps run it past your vet in regards to a tin food only diet for a couple of days - just to give him a good clean out as much as anything else? Could be a blockage and depending on that he may need x-rays/ultrasound kinda thing. Couldn't remember if i read it already...but has he been poo'ing?

Only problem with the Natures gift is other then the tins it seems more set up for small dogs...and i didn't think they did a puppy dry food?
