Hmm then if there is accurate proof that the Indian Wolf isn't the base of todays wolves...how can someone be stating such? It's certainly interesting reading tho!!
-
But as there was one huge land mass...then the early wolves would have done as they do now...range for new territories and adapted to suit the new territories over time - but of course with much more space to do so. So it's not outside the realm of possibility that the Indian wolves were the base for other types of wolf?

Oooo great idea...tackle shops have ones like those as well

I use a black dog treat bag and use either Ziwi peak treats or those fourlegs food

Glad to hear he's feeling better!

Both these sites may be of interest? www.barkcontrol.com.au www.hushpuppy.com.au Was thinking with the size difference two different collars may be the better bet anyway...eg smaller model for the little guy.

My old dog Harm (RIP) was a good alpha - that didn't change when he was desexed either (6yrs old or so)- still top dog. He occasionally shared his possie with a female BC who was more obvious about being top dog...but if she nagged him to much he'd put his foot down and she'd settle - bit like watching an unusual married couple...lol. My two current dogs are male, once desexed at 6 months is alpha still over the one desexed at 15months - neither push the rank issue with me...but do with my OH. I don't have any bitches at my house - other then me...and the Birman Not sure if it's true but i've noticed that as often as not male dogs are happy enough to submit to an alpha type female (human or dog) where as bitches are more likely to continue to push the issue if given the chance - or at least more so then dogs - desexed or not....

Hehehe...it's just his personality...the first time i met him i picked him up and didn't want to let him go!

Hehehe...considering Bronx has been 'treated harshly' by several little poochies...i'm not sure his greetings will be particularly friendly but we can see how things go Besides he was bitten on the nose by a rat the other day...not sure how he'll go with a Chi... Just kidding of course (he was bitten tho...lol) I'm hoping to be back there next Monday - meant to be back this week but was sick as a dog

I'd be working out which was the bigger problem...eg is the older dog barking more often? only when you aren't home? is the younger dog barking once the older dog starts? or again only when you are not home? Could be that you can get one collar and use it on both dogs if they are barking at differing times? Probably worth looking at the collars that require both sound and vibration to trigger a correction rather then ones that just use noise or just vibration. also check out places online...i found quite a range of prices for the same item just by looking at different online stores for example ETA - some places let you rent them as well - might be worth looking into?
-
Sounds like the rest is coming As to doing better in a trial...it can depend on you and how nervy/anxious/tense etc you get I'm expecting Bronx to work badly in a trial...lol...for all that he plays it up like a ham and is generally super obedient when we are at work (eg expos etc). But i'm expecting myself to be an absolute mess going into the ring the first few times and i know B will pick up on that. I think Sabe will work better only because he'll be more on alert - but will he focus on me or everything else??
-
Have you also joined as a member? Can't remember if you have to do it at the same time - i was a member of the CCCQ before i got my poochies Tho if you have a membership number then i'm assuming you have joined...and that may be all the info etc you get! You don't get a membership pack as such...from memory i got a 'letter' with my card attached to it, along with the rules and regs of being a CCCQ member etc...so if you have that i think that's about it
-
It's been known for people to send cash...lol...but it's not encouraged! But the Aussie post cheque thingo's are also fine from what i understand At least i hope so! As that's what i'll be doing unless i arrange for a cheque book
-
Once you are a member of the CCCQ they will start sending you the mags each month...can't remember when the next one is due tho...lol. Are you meaning entering trials? for that you need to get the entry forms from the CCCQ - you can call them and do it all over the phone pay by credit card etc or just fax them what you want etc...get a booklet of them for $5 or so from memory. Then you fill out the forms as required for each trial and send the form and cheque off to the secretary and 'bobs your uncle'

As far as i know it means it's just being run by the club unless it's listed as a breed specialty So check out that angle on the info - if it doesn't say that go a head and enter

I only wash my GSD's every few months...tho they get a good brushing (more so when they are blowing coat) which keeps the doggy smell at bay. Good quality food (raw or dry) also seems to help keep the smell down. And yeah...if possible dry them off with a blow dryer...works wonders and gets them dry right down to the skin
-
I know when my two GSD's take out possums they work as a team/pack - and do so silently - considering the possum doesn't get a chance to make a noise i'm assuming it's done quickly and is a suprise to them as well. They also eat the entire carcass - sharing kinda...Bronx gets the best bits and Sabe gets the rest. I know it's not a good thing they are getting wildlife we did everything to stop them (took out mango tree, blocked holes in roof etc) and now we lock the boys up at night so they stop taking the silly things out! They've not been trained to do so...and even tho i have tried lure coursing they ran after it for a smidge then came back to me after deciding the 'prey' wasn't worth it. It would also be interesting to compare the behavour of domestic dogs to the African Wild Dogs...saw a doco on them the other day on Foxtel...seemed much more 'dog-like' behaviour then 'wolf-like' if that makes sense. As to being able to chat behaviours over dinner one night...geez that would be great!

I have two largish German Shepherds - i do keep an eye on them but they pretty much just crush everything listed there easily. The only thing i do have problems with (and so don't give them any more) is beef ribs - and that's because my older GSD manages to get them caught down along his teeth(at least once each time they got them). Luckily he lets me go in after them and pry it off from along his teeth - but it's not pleasant for either of us

Anyone Here Feed There Dog Rabbit?
KitKat replied to koolietas's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'd love to try my dogs on rabbit....but it's far from cheap around here - as far as i know! If i could find a cheap supplier i'd be interested...lol. My dogs have eaten the odd suicdal possum so i'm guessing they'd enjoy rabbit as well -
My boys get - Chicken - frames, legs, wings, necks, quarter pieces, whole smaller chooks Turkey - necks, legs, wings, bums Pork - feet, hocks Lamb - flaps, brisket, necks, off cuts Beef - neck, off cuts, tails Roo - tails

Has Anyone Fed Their Dogs Fish Heads?
KitKat replied to Norskgra's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
As i understand it the bones are fine for the dogs - but's it's better when it's a whole fish as the bones get crushed in with the meat as they chew etc. -
I got mine much the same way Sway - got it for less then half the price then i could in Aus. Found a supplier in QLD tho so will have to check out his prices for one more prong. I have only had one of my prongs come undone but that was only because i hadn't put it on quite correctly - so it was user error
-
You can get some nice black covers for the sprenger prong collars....makes it look like a standard martingale

Feeding A Raw Diet, Veges Or No Veges?
KitKat replied to jesomil's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I've recently started my dogs on a barf type - i have tried barf with vegies before...and the dogs did badly (not saying barf with vegies is bad etc just not suited to my GSD's) now i'm trying it with just meaty bones with organ meats when i remember and the odd bit of left overs. So far the dogs are looking nice, i'm not having to feed them 2 or 3 times the recommended amount (as i did with on barf with vegies) and they seem to be happy - will see how things go from here on in. I found a great website about feeding raw meaty bones with little to no vegies...and it was very interesting...it's an Aussie site but do you think i can find it at the moment?? That will teach me to find it at work and not send the link home -
Hopefully in the next few weeks
