  1. Perhaps PM ROM they might be able to help with info?
  2. Yup...know the feeling...Sabe 2 hours after the op started howling once he heard my voice at the front counter and then dragged the vet nurse down the hall way in his efforts to get to me. I was hoping for him to be quiet for the 2nd time of his life... Bronx did the whole..."oh woe is me...no energy...mummy help me" act If he's not tender and the swelling has gone down then CK shouldn't be too bad for training...if not and you bring an imposter...Bronx will probably be even more interested!
  3. I put 'no shared is fine' as Bronx isn't overly toy orientated...however Sabre is
  4. I actually 'made use' of the pain Sabre was in after he was desexed - they had to go in and find the hidden testicle...lol. He wasn't quite as energetic due to the fact he was feeling a bit sore and sorry for himself - i thought about getting him painkillers...but i figured if he can't feel it he'd be his enthusiastic self again too quick. He had quite a bit of swelling and then rubbing of and around his sac but i just kept checking it a few times a day and put pawpaw ointment on the rubbed areas. He trashed his headcollar three times in 2 days until it wasn't even able to be glued/taped back together...so again we just kept an eye on him without using the headcollar. He didn't bother the two stitched areas too badly - but my suggestion is to keep him as quiet as possible for the first couple of days  It is normal for the sac to become swollen after the op- even to look as if the dog has not been desexed - some look worse then others eg red and angry looking etc. It does tend to be worse at the beginning if the dog isn't kept quiet to start with...lol...often easier said then done!
  5. Revolution has been out for a while now and unless your dog is likely to have an allergic reaction (not common) then it is a great product to use and is effective
  6. It can be due to the amount of oil or jelly used to keep the fish moist etc in the canning process - fresh fish of course doesn't have this issue A tin of sardines in oil often doesn't cause a noticible problem for larger dogs tho it may for smaller dogs - so draining all or some of the excess oil might be worthwhile if it's proving an issue.
  7. Are you thinking too hard about what you are doing? I find if i concentrate too hard on what i am doing i stuff up more! The comment "Tits to Target" is short and to the point...and accurate! I mean look at the other night at obedience training i almost tripped straight over Bronx at fast pace! (Mind you i am dyslexic with left and right which doesn't help - but it is worse if i am thinking hard about it) I am hoping to eventually get both my GSD's into agility - but i figured for Sabe's sake i am better off getting the obedience up to scratch first!
  8. That's interesting - I thought if you had boys and a girl, the girl would always wind up as highest ranked. Is that just another myth? I think it is a myth honestly...and depends on the dogs involved. My old Harm (RIP) was Alpha...and was very good at it. At training other dogs saw him that way as well and all got on fine with him...most of the bitches flirted with him and the other dogs didn't push him - pups played at him but if they got out of hand he'd tell them off and all would be sweet again. The pack was a bit fluid and we spent a lot of time with some lovely BC's - the older girl being the alpha of her pack. For the most part she'd nag Harm - and you could almost believe she was boss to him. Once she spent the half the day nagging him...to a point where he almost couldn't move without her nagging - and then enough was enough - he put her to the ground with one paw, quietly lifted his lips to her and then stepped back and let her up. For the rest of the day she was as sweet as pie to him They were so much the married couple!
  9. Thinking of you and yours! Best wishes for your girl.
  10. RC GSD is also a good one
  11. If youa re happy with your pup on Hills...and she is doing well on Hills...then stick with it  And whole chook necks are fine...just keep an eye on her incase she tries to inhale them etc...lol. If you are unsure to start with crush the necks a bit so they are easier for her to chew etc ;)
  12. Hills Oral Care RC Labrador RC Giant Adult Advance Adult Dental
  13. Just because B thought Harvey looked tasty....just means Bronx has perfect taste along with the rest of it ;)
  14. That could be it too Varicool!!!! But also John knows that Sabe is the first dog i've owned that was that badly behaved Harm was perfect and Bronx is getting close to it ;)
  15. Oh yeah...the Shepherd screams are such a treat...i mean Sabe sounded like he was being beaten with two sticks and a rock! He's a shocker! I don't think some of the other trainers believed me when i said it was 'just him' - so felt guilty knowing that several people were crabby about it. (However it was good distration for those class 4 dogs ;) lol) Mind you i felt better when our trainer said there had been many worse carrying on then Sabe at times and that i wasn't to worry to much I'm not having to do the swap overs just yet as Sabe is in the first class at 7.30 and Bronx is in the third class at 8.30 - but it will happen that there will be swapsies eventually!
  16. That's probably not a bad idea either - unfortunatly i believe there is only one or two people not doing classes that hang around at training that might be able to do it. But i'll certainly be keeping the idea in mind tho!
  17. Sabe responds well to food from the hand...however he will leave food to see what you are doing or to be with you and you have to send him back to the food. Well timed negatives work well...but he is a softy so it can be a matter of being careful with him - he's certainly my problem child! But i'll see how he goes next Monday night after that if nothing else i might be able to arrange his covered crate and someone to drop food in when he's being peacefully quiet...lol
  18. Must admit...the zappy collar is my preferred choice - mostly because Sabe knows that being contained or secured and left isn't a bad thing...and has had it happen on and off his entire life! But last night with all the dogs and all the people and hte new area...and there i was off with Bronx having 'fun'...*sigh* The Brat is lucky he's a sweetie!
  19. Personally i don't think there is enough bone content in what you are currently feeding to make it a balanced diet...especially for a growing pup. Are you aiming to feed the BARF diet or more the RAW diet? It may well be worth borrowing the books from your library and doing a read up in regards to feeding a balanced raw type diet. There are some fantastic threads in this forum on what to feed - eg both in the way of meat/bones/vegies/fruit/offal etc and amounts - well worth doing a search if you have the time to flick thru oodles of threads...lol. Also check out websites...there are some great ones out there that are very informative and easy to read (eg not slogged down with technicrap )
  20. Yes...they can 'break' their penis - has to do with a bone in there. Yes desexed dogs can still mount things...they can in fact still tie with a bitch. Intact or desexed bitches often mount/hump as well. As to the peeing in the crate...the best thing i can suggest is check with the vet to rule out a UTI or a weak bladder and then go back to toilet training from the beginning...including teaching the dog to pee on command. There are some great threads regarding those kind of lessons. Wish them the best for their boy.
  21. Reddi!!! That was you!!! Hi!!!!! Your CK is a darling boy If it wasn't your boy staring at B...it was B staring at CK ;) Cheeky sods! Bronx used to interact a lot with ML's BC's....i think B would have been fine to meet and greet with CK but after dealing with Sabe before hand i was to tired to deal with B possibly being silly Maybe next week Varicool- Bahahaha...i was one of his first admirers to pick him up and take off with him while cuddling...but i certainly wasn't the one who taught him to slip the tounge when kissing It's one of the fab things with lil dogs...being able to still pcik them up as adults! ETA - Sabe can't be distracted by food when starting a tantie or being in full tantie like that - unless you are there giving him what he wants (attention). Bronx is more food orientated then Sabe - mores the pity!
  22. Harves is such a lil hunny!!! And did beautifully at training!!! I had warned the lady instructors that he was a Brat on previous occasions...but i don't think they believed me...i mean...Bronx is such a sweetie...and Sabe is his half brother after all...but they couldn't be more different! ;)
  23. I at times do the 'Alpha Roll' thing with Sabre...more like how Ceaser does it tho...and it's often when Sabe has gone loopy...so drop him (like Bronx will do at times) and i hold Sabe down until he settles and just lays there...you can often see him physically just relax and get a big grin on his face and his tounge will fall out his head ;) However...i wouldn't do such with a dog i didn't know...as depending on the situation i couldn't say i would be 100% confident to do so without issues arrising - which would take some of the 'assertive energy' out of it all ETA - for the rest of it ...i am the Pack Leader (even to the cats Bitch that i am ) and my dogs know it - however rules are pretty relaxed...however if I tell them to do something i expect them to do it, if they don't i make sure it happens But i don't go out of my way to do things specifically just to go "Me Pack Leader"
  24. Yup...go the ones in oil! Great for the skin and the poops!
  25. Hehehe John wasn't particularly worried...he said they'd had dogs there much worse then Sabe And i ran it past John about having the RT for next time and he was fine with it The Brat knows that the more distressed he sounds the more sympathy he is likely to get! Not from me...but from anyone else around! Bad mother i must be for my dog to be sounding that upset ;) Little toad that he is!
