  1. See if she's willing to eat good quality kibble that you've soaked a bit so that it becomes soft?
  2. Hehehe i don't think Luvabull will be able to miss the results of him loosening up...lol...
  3. I fell for this one........once. Nothing useful to add, sorry. I fell for this as well - i was told i had 'ruined' Bronx by not letting him be a pup...so i did as suggested with Sabe - and yeah he is my problem child where as Bronx is the 'perfect' child.
  4. Aaww he's humping you...that's so nice - it means he loves you!
  5. So large breed dogs should never wear backpacks? Just saying that if a dog is fit and the backpack properly and well made (eg well balanced, fitted etc) and the dog is slowly trained/built up to carry weight then there is no problem. I wouldn't say hey go get one of those $20 packs from the markets and fit it with 5 KG's each side and go for a 20k walk - however i would say go get a decent pack, check out what people say about them before buying (i researched all over the net before deciding on the one i got), start the walks with the pack empty so dog is comfortable in it and it's well fitted. Slowly start putting weight in - with the pack i suggested it's easy as you can just put water in hte bladders - eg 200mls in each side to start with - easy to measure etc. Make sure dog is fit, comfortable and used to the weight before going up in stages. This kinda thing is a sport for many breeds, not to mention O/S it's a sport/hobby for anyone who's interested!
  6. That's the one They may have changed it slightly and so don't do it in blue anymore...lol. I've got the large one - and my boys are roughly 45kg's lean weight - so perhaps the medium size one for your girl? The pack itself undoes from the framework which is the Webmaster Harness - seriously fab harness and seriously fab pack
  7. I walk my two GSD's at the same time...and walk them one on each side I put whatever collar is handy on them, use a double ended leash and we head off. They will walk on which ever side i put them on - i don't always have, say Bronx on my left and Sabe on the right, i'll swap them around as we start as well as during the walk if i so decide...lol How i did it...not sure...it just happened as it was easiest for me - but both my boys are 'Mummy's boys' so i think they were just doing as told...lol
  8. Working their brain tired them out quicker then just working out the body...however using a dog pack often makes the dog feel they are doing a job as well as going for a walk...so yeah...tires them quicker and settles them on the walk quicker. I did that for a while with my hyper GSD - i put the pack on him now and he immediately settles to have it put on etc and is very proud of his pack ETA - some pics Bronx - Sabre -
  9. Just thought i'd say...i have GSD's and my guys love the packs - even when they have water in the bladders of the packs. I'm aiming to srtart putting my Sunday work stuff in the dogs pack and Bronx can carry it too and from the car...lol - i have to carry the gear we have bought and the crate so it's only fair he carries something! And the brand of pack i have is Ruffwear The one with the water bladders inside of it. These would be perfect for the weight trainign as the harness it sits on is great plus you can slowly build her up to carry the pack and weight as you can slowly top up the bladders and know she's carrying the weight evenly ;)
  10. There was a thread in the general forum about backpacks....with links and people saying what they liked about the packs they got etc - might be worth searching as well? I got mind O/S and it worked out cheaper importing it then buying it here - will dig up the name and post it here when i get home from work
  11. It's not so much the amount of protien that's the problem...but the quality of it and the balance of everything else in the food...
  12. I was only feeding pig and chook heads and feet to my GSD's the other day... It does have me wondering at times why we hate them in dog food but will feed it fresh - i'm assuming because there may also be feathers etc?
  13. The BARF shop is pretty good on price...or at least it't the best i found when i was looking for one for work (not wholesale price tho)
  14. Check chains are not supposed to choke a dog! A quick 'pop' on the chain and the dog stops pulling and walks nicely beside you. I would much prefer to use a check chain on a dog that pulls and teach it not to pull, than have a dog that chokes itself constantly on a flat collar. Like most training tools, check chains can be great if they are used correctly on the right dog. Fully agree with Haven and Jbbb ETA - i've used most training tools out there with the exception of the halties etc (only due to personal dislike) - i've used them for different reasons and different times - now-a-days i mix and match depending on my mood when walking/taking my dogs out (Could be flat colar, martingale, check, cloth check, leather check, prong, halter etc)
  15. I took my pups out and about as early as soon as i got them home - but i carried them (or had them up in a trolley) and they didn't socialise with dogs i didn't know.
  16. Ask them to check with Petwise Cannon Hill - i believe they recently got a groomer in again
  17. For my GSDs who were getting their ear tips eaten something chronic i used Advantix and then put pawpaw ointment or fresh aloe on the ear tips to help heal them. Once the Advantix was on the dog the flies didn't go after them so the pawpaw or aloe was enough to heal the tips easily. I tried everything i had been advised to use...and either had to apply it several times a day for it to be effective - fine on weekends but not when i was at work. I tried longer lasting oil based and petrolium based products...these didn't do tooo bad in keeping the flies off but they glugged up the ear fur (gave them dags on their ears!) and caused it to fall out - not a good look on fluff butt GSD's Since using the Advantix i've not had a problem with flies etc - and no...i'm not connected with promoting the product!
  18. I tried feeding Barf by the book...dogs lost condition. Tried certain kibbles...dogs lost condition. Tried other kibbles dogs...were in good condition. Tried just meaty bones...dogs were in good condition. Currently feed whatever i get from work - Euk, Hills, Iams, Proplan and the dogs get this as dinner perhaps a couple of times a week, otherwise it's stuffed into treat balls. Dogs get bones = chicken feet/pieces/frames/wings/legs/whole, lamb necks/flaps/offcuts, beef pieces, turkey necks/tails/wings/legs, fish whole, roo tails, etc as their main meals most nights. No vegies, no specific offal, very rarely do i add vitamins or oils etc - dogs are shiney and well coated (if they get muddy etc a quick brush gets them into top nic again quickly) have no doggy smell, teeth are clean so is breath - dogs are healthy. How i decided this? trial and error - i gave everything ago and didn't keep with what didn't work - i also stick with that there is no one thing that is perfect for all dogs. Comes down to the dog and owner as to what works - what i do works for me and mine, but i accept that it may not suit others. I also do part time work in a pet supply store and never push one brand over another unless there is something specific they are after and i know a brand does better in it then the others etc. I'll explain the details of each brand/type and let the person decide for themselves. If people state to me they wish to feed Raw/Barf i'll recommend they Google and get the books to do it correctly.
  19. I think it's fido's that do an Emu Oil one which is very nice
  20. Yup...it's the same solution in each size of the vials...just different ml's in each one - same can be done for cats
  21. Petwise has a store at Macgregor (on Kessels Rd), Cannon Hill and Underwood - and another opening at Rothwell. They also stock the breeder bags
  22. If you want to move it then just 'report' your other thread and let the Mods know you'd like to move it - if they get a chance i'm sure they'd be happy to As to if i would use a DIY hydrobath....yup...sure would! and will do so until i can manage to get my own...lol. I use the ones at Petwise - fairly cheap (cheaper on Mondays and Tuesdays if you are a member) and you can use the dryers as well - which my dogs love
  23. A good sign then!! Have you bought stuff from them before? I know they often do 15% off sales quite regularly
  24. Which pooch are you harnessing up? I've got a couple of different harnesses that i've used on the boys...have to say my fav has been allweather ones that i got from 'fordogtrainers.com' - will see if i can nab a pic from the site... Managed to find one with a BM boofer in one I've got a fancy leather one from that website ( Fordogtrainers.com ) but have barely used it as the above one is much easier to use, put on and the boys have found it comfortable in the so far badly thoughtout rollerblading attempt (it would help if I could rollerblade properly!) It's so far proven strong enough to even hold Sabre while he plays silly-buggers without clips coming undone etc. I've so far found it much better then the Rogz one (wider straps, better placed for what i want etc) and same with the leather one - and it nylon is fine wet or dry. Should look at selling the other harnesses i have shouldn't i?
