K9 Force Coming To Queensland
KitKat replied to Steve K9Pro's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
My dream would include a demonstration on how to handle and walk my dog in public around other dogs. I think general handling of my dog, but most people prob. have that covered already. Is there a workshop for problem dogs ?...Do you need a dog for demo ? I might have a good one... I'm seconding this ETA - also how to focus/settle an energetic enthusiastic dog ETA again - anyway of doing something to work on aggression towards other pets/stock? eg cats/stock? -
Very Fussy Gsd - Needs To Gain Wait
KitKat replied to annukya's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Check with the store/s you use and see if they have a palatability guarentee on the food they sell (so you can take it back if dog doesn't eat it/gets sick/etc), or ask them if you can get samples - even if it's just a couple of handfuls from a broken bag etc. Also Evo is now available in Aus which which is pretty good stuff as well..expensive tho. -
Bully Stick / G-whizzers - Brisbane?
KitKat replied to jaegertheweim's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Petwise do the roo chews only now - kinda look the same but aren't whizzers...they were looking at getting them in and had a box of them at one stage...i tried to convince the manager to stock them as Bronx was the trial dog But i think it was the idea of them that caused them not to be stocked further -

Very Fussy Gsd - Needs To Gain Wait
KitKat replied to annukya's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I feed Great Barko/Uncle Albers to my GSD's and have found it very very good for them - google the company and email them explaining why you are looking at their food and ask if they could send a sample - the sample i got proved enough meals for both my boys for three nights :nahnah: At least that way you can try it she if she has an issue with it and if it works great, if she tosses her cookies you know not to try it again Euk is now doing a GSD mix which might be worth a try as Euk is usually good for putting weight on a dog. Also which Royal Canin one are you using? the Maxi/GSD/4800? -
Stick some flour on it to stop the bleeding - then it could just be a matter of seeing how bad it has been split - eg if the pooch needs to go to the vet to get it pulled/cut out etc

Barko And Uncle Albers Dry Feed.
KitKat replied to skipper2's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Well...for starters there are no import costs, no huge advertising campaigns, no specific promoters/reps to pay etc etc. There's actually not much in they way of fillers in it either - and looking at the kibble itself you can see the difference. I'd not necessarily say it's a 'super premium dry food' (and having worked for Royal Canin i know the difference between the levels) but i'm willing to say it's a great food and my dogs are doing very well on it at this point - and i'd be willing to recommend it. But as it says in my sig...the best food for your dog yadda yadda yadda  -
Barko And Uncle Albers Dry Feed.
KitKat replied to skipper2's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
One of the things i've noticed with this food is that i have to feed a lot less to my dogs for the same result - comparing against premium high energy foods as well. Sabre even blows drool bubbles while waiting to be given the go-ahead to eat -
Try a product called 'Ban Itch' it will actually lightly numb the area so it won't be as noticible to him (itching means it's healing...lol) and it's also a licking deterant as it tastes damn awful!! It's great stuff...i use it on myself on mozzie bites and when i've got contact allergies to take the itch/sting out of the spots etc.

Barko And Uncle Albers Dry Feed.
KitKat replied to skipper2's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
To me looking at the food it looks decent quality - not nice shapes like most kibble but very dense and very little cereal, it's also not a dry kibble. Tho i guess it all comes down to what you lie and what your dogs like So far my two GSD's are eating it happily and are still looking good - so while that continues they'll stay on it -
Petwise in Brisbane has a flat rate of $10 for use of the hydrobath and oldfield dryers including towel (tho recommended to bring one yourself) and fido's wash - tho you can use your own shampoo. On Mondays and Tuesdays it's $2 for VIP members (free membership). I know the Macgregor store often has show people using it...which is a bit of a pain as they can end up in there for 4-6 hours yet still only pay the $10 per dog.
-
To a point...it's made in Aus so you aren't paying import/shipping costs etc - nor paying for the name/advertising. But...i'm of the idea still that 'The best food for your dog is the food your dog does best on'
-
It's a dry food made down south Aus - i'll dig up the link - here it is Goes for about $35-$30 for a 22kg bag.
-
I'm looking to try these foods and have just started switching the boys from what they were on to the Uncle Albers/Great Barko - have heard some great stuff about it and some not so great stuff - but i could say that for every dry food So...anyone else out there using it? happy with it? not happy with it?
-
When i was feeding barf by the book my dogs lost weight, lost condition and had to eat heaps to not look starved - so i went back to kibble with extras and they gained weight, gained condition and ate less. I also tried just raw meaty bones - eg turkey necks one night, roo tail the next, lamb the next, chicken the next and so on, they got the occasional egg and that was about it - they stayed in good condition, stayed at a good weight and looked great as well. So for me it's either a kibble with extra's diet (eg kibble with stuff, kibble or meaty bones) or just meaty bones as diets for my two boys - depends on the budget and freezer space at the time

As long as you are feeding a high quality balanced diet then you don't need to add calcium - in fact added calcium can cause more problems then anything else.

Is Your Breed Prone To Bloat?
KitKat replied to melbournecritters's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I feed my GSD's whatever i happen to be feeding them - dry food with extras, dry food by itself, raw meaty bones etc. They get one meal at night but aren't allowed to be too active after dinner, they can be as active as they like beforehand. For every tip to stop bloat you will find another tip that says that causes bloat (eg feed kibble soaked, don't feed soaked kibble, feed off of the ground, don't feed off of the ground etc). I work on the whole common sense idea and continue with what has worked for me. -
One of my GSD's does that...but he tends to walks in circles and poos...lol
-
My suggestion is to indicate that he's donw the wrong thing in biting you (yelp, stop etc) and then give him something that he can chew on...eg soft toy of his etc.

Vet In Brisbane Southside, Recommendations
KitKat replied to storm's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The RSPCA won't be able to help you but the AWL on the Gold Coast will They have their prices on their website...i think it's www.awlqld.com.au -
Good quality leather is always good - i've also found the Rogz stuff fantastic and lasts for ages. Lupine leads are also very nice and have a lifetime guarentee - even if chewed!

Exactly Gomez It's a great site isn't it
